Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Here is a 5 minute clip of Luke and Leia dying together. Mods if this is too long of a clip, let me know.

This is strictly an experiment, an idea I came up with last night. Never liked the way Luke dies in ‘Last Jedi’ and never liked the Idea of Han showing up, normally this is reserved for a force ghost. What if Luke and Leia were able to bring Han back in Kylo’s mind, in otherwords, overwhelm him with the light side of the force. They sacrifice their own lives, Leia for her son, Luke to redeem his mistakes that were made with his nephew. Editorially thinking, the moment Leia rubs the medallion, it allows us to bring in Luke for a pretty decent link.

https://mega.nz/file/t1wEDYzZ#z7nKyusOt76ZKD00j4x1_X2S7UzInQcx_UFuUUhu8Xw

Again, just ideas in action. I plan to do Mandalorian type episodes with the sequel trilogy and I may try and use this. But wanted to throw it out as it is an idea and execution I have not seen before. Curios if anyone else likes it.

Yes I am. Obviously our differing opinions aren’t gonna be reconcilable within the same cut. Not only am I satisfied with Luke’s death, but I really love Kylo seeing Han as nothing more than a memory in his head. In fact, I’m not too clear why Leia dies for it to happen. Or was she dying for Rey to heal Kylo?

The REAL reason she was dying was because they had no more Carrie Fisher footage and they had to do something to force her death and this was their choice. I always assumed the strength she took to reach out to him and interrupt him mid-fight was beyond her normal capabilities. May have been that she helped in the healing as well on top of that, but either way it feels forced. At some point the light side of the force, his death, and Leia together were able to bring him back to the light side. The talk with Han was the representation of him coming back.

I have never liked that Kylo was visited by a non-force user, in this case Han Solo. Whether it was all in his head or not.

What if… THIS is what kills Luke, just like it kills Leia. Either Leia was too weak to do it by herself, or it just took the two of them to conjure up Han Solo’s essence in Kylo. I would accept the fact that Luke went to Ahch-To to die, because he knew that he would be sacrificing himself to save Kylo.

In this instance, he dies WITH his sister. MUCH better than a death to provide escape for a small group of fighters on Crait. It could even be explained that bringing someone back from the dead even temporarily, is against the will of the force and the force took their lives as the price. Even THAT is a better explanation than what we got in Last Jedi.

It ALSO brings the Big 3 together one last time… kind of…

In AOTC, get off Coruscant as fast as possible by eliminating the poisonous slug assassination attempt. The landing platform is now the only assassination attempt. Two was overkill. Also Anakin and Padme have seen each other often between AOTC and Phantom Menace. Helps make their relationship more believable. Anakin is now more mature.

1st scene: Landing Platform assassination attempt.
2nd scene: deleted Senate scene with Padme.
3rd scene: Anakin introduction is now chasing the assassin Zam Wessell through the streets then nightclub
4th scene: Anakin is assigned to take Padme back to Naboo by the Council
5th Scene: Anakin and Palpatine in his office discuss his first assignment.

Then this:

I don’t think anyone has tried this approach before. If interested, PM me for the full 30 minute Mandalorian style episode: Attack of the Clones Part 1.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!
Time

Not to put any more projects on your plate, but have you considered doing the Battle of Geonosis with a mix of Battlefront II footage and the end of Attack of the Clones? The end of AOTC is such an early CGI Fest, it feels like an animated show!

I quickly threw this together, but wanted to share this idea with more than words. It is definitely too ambitious for me, but could be interesting…

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!
Time

This journey has been an… experience for me. Thank you. Watching the clone wars like this is such an enjoyable experience. Then I watched the prequels (HAL9000 v7)… and during the battle of Geonosis, I thought I was watching one of your edits!! Early CGI felt like Clone Wars!!

Have you thought about adding the prequels to this series? With the Up-res’d deleted scenes and outdated CGI, I felt like I was watching an early 2000’s TV show and i found myself enjoying the prequals more than I had in the past. To have that viewing experience in episodic chunks, credit/music/art experience… Some of the art of prequal era is stunning!! That could be fun 😃

Any edits that remove Luke from the sequel trilogy?
Time

Has anyone attempted this yet? I’m actually okay with Palps being the big baddy, but the way they handled Luke can NOT be forgiven.

Let him be dead when the Episode 7 scroll begins and the light has gone out of the galaxy with him. Let Leia train Rey. She then goes to Ahch-To on a quest to “find herself” perhaps the cave is is the sole reason she is there. The only version of Luke we should see is Force Ghost Luke when Rey tosses the saver into the fire and the final battle with Palps, as per Hal’s edit.

Too bad his encounter with Ben on Krate can’t be salvaged… THAT Luke was bad ass.

Anyway, rant over.

Moonlighting Fan Edit: BTTF/Silent treatment (Released)
Time

Not my edit, but stumbled across this today.

http://moonlightingbttf.com/

The first three seasons of Moonlighting are some of the best TV ever created (in my opinion) but season’s 4,5 were quite different for a variety of reasons. This attempts to fix that.

I love that they changed the story using silent film elements. I have long said this is the only way to fix the Star Wars prequels. I love TMBTM’s Dusty version, but would love to see someone try the silent film method and completely change the story to better fit the characters and clone wars. I attempted this myself, but never made it very far. Here was a sample video of an AOTC scene I had done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCuUuAQnfhs&feature=youtu.be

I like the lava ring. Ideally, and this would be way out there for us, the action would be taking place within that circle. But even so, it’s a striking enough visual to plausibly be an establishing shot for an environment.

It just doesn’t look like the Mustafar that has been established in canon.

I say put Kylo forest fight scene where the broom boy scene was in TLJ (after all, he is pissed off about Luke totally faking him out), cut to credits with Kylo holding the Holocron.

Episode 9 begins with kylo seeking and finding Palpatine. Or establish in the Crawl that he has already found him.

I think if Kylo finding Palpatine was moved to the end of Episode 8, then it could mirror TFA with Rey finding Luke, maybe add some little things throughout that help foreshadow Palpatine more. I looked around on the jungle planet after seeing it again, which I’m pretty sure is unnamed because I was listening for it, and in my head it’d take a lot of time to add Naboo elements to tie it with the prequels more considering the type of shots.

100% this. With Snoke being killed in TLJ, you end the movie with Palpatine revealing himself and that he created Snoke. Cliffhanger and and make it feel like a storyline planned from the beginning.

Kylo should also rebuild his helmet at the end of TLJ. Maybe move Rey’s training montage in the jungle to the end of TLJ also.

Then change the crawl in Rise of Skywalker to talk about how Rey found the dagger on a Jedi expedition, the problem with Threepio unable to interpret Sith. I HATED this setup and choice for the McGuffin in Rise Act 1.

We open with the crew finding the programmer and we learn about Poe’s past as the opening act. We first see Kylo in Rise as he goes before the First Order Generals, completely in charge with new helmet already built.

Other big thing that bugged me was how long it took for the rest of the galaxy to show up in the final battle. Poe and his “fleet” would not have lasted that long against that many Star Destroyers or Tie Fighters.

Overall my favorite of the new trilogy but really excited about the edit potential. can’t wait to see the cut scenes!!

Idea: How to make Episode 3 work as a standalone prequel?

This is what I landed on for a crawl that I’m finally happy with:

“The Clone Wars have raged across the galaxy for three years. Under the leadership of the ruthless Count Dooku, thousands of star systems have revolted against the GALACTIC REPUBLIC.

In a stunning move, Dooku has ordered the fiendish droid leader, General Greivous, to sweep into the Republic capital and kidnap Chancellor Palpatine.

As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee with their hostage, two JEDI KNIGHTS, guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, lead a desperate mission to rescue the Chancellor…”

I like it. Any thoughts of making this Episode 2, while Rogue One could be Episode 3? Or are you just eliminating the Episode #? I Look forward to seeing the final product.

Idea: The Last Jedi WITHOUT Cantobight
Time

I definitely re-ordered some scenes. This is actually part of a much larger, and bolder, edit I’m working on for myself which most likely will not to be released as my editing skills are limited and not even close to those of others here. You will notice a few other scenes missing.

I know how much the Cantobight detour bothers others so I wanted to at least offer my thoughts and ideas on the topic. The goals of this particular sequence are as follows:

Eliminate Cantobight completely
Eliminate bad Maz Cameo
Eliminate need for a codebreaker
Shorten the way too long space chase thus shortening the movie

The fact that the rushed plan to hijack the Supremacy ultimately fails, I believe it allows us to move more quickly through these scenes. Again, this idea and attempt would not have been possible without the brilliant
poppasketti Rekindled edit.

The Plan (est 2 minutes)

Finn and Rose (minus Cantobight) (est 11 minutes)

This is the first attempt and I will probably fine tune it to the best of my ability, especially some of the audio transitions.

jrs81 mate - your video has been blocked by Disney on copyright grounds. Doh!

It maybe worth uploading it to vimeo (free, easy and quick to register an account and also use) or a similar site - who don’t seem to suffer anywhere near as many of these take-downs as enforced by youtube?

Good luck with it 😃

I was afraid of that. I thought since it was unlisted, it would be okay.

Frankly, I think cutting Canto Bight and DJ out entirely cripples Finn’s character too much, since he’d basically vanish from the story for a massive stretch of time. I don’t think you can get it down any more than Hal did for Legendary (which poppasketti replicated for Rekindled) without it feeling like a fan edit and not a finished film (much like attempts I’ve seen to remove Jar Jar entirely from TPM or removing the Ewoks entirely from ROTJ).

I actually thought the theatrical film felt like a fan edit. The entire side-plot trip to Cantobight, being stuck in jail, and then the time to return and sneak aboard the Supremacy, just didn’t fit with rest of the narrative in regards to time. It felt shoehorned in and made The Supremacy chase feel like slow motion. Speaking of shoehorned in…that Maz Cameo… ugh

Idea: The Last Jedi WITHOUT Cantobight
Time

I just downloaded and watched poppasketti’s Last Jedi: Rekindled and he has truly outdone himself. This is a marvelous edit and the SPFX changes/additions he made were top notch. This is my go to version of the Last Jedi. With that being said, I was still bothered by the horrible Maz Cameo, Cantobight trip, and lame codebreaker talk/character. This is simply bad writing by Rian and there is no way around that. Or is there…

I’ve been messing around with the Rekindled edit and I think with his added BB-8 to Finn and Rose’s shuttle escape scene, I think it may be possible.

‘The Plan’ - Setting up the new plan of action without Maz and the need for a codebreaker. Quite simple really. The plan fails so it doesn’t have to be well thought out. The theory behind the new plan? Someone (Poe) has learned about Han and Leia’s little maneuver in The Empire Strikes back. Floating away with the rest of the garbage. The rebels are being pursued with ships being destroyed so debris would be constantly passing by ‘The Supremacy’. Finn and Rose would float in space as debris until they are behind ‘The Supremacy’ and then enter from behind. Billie Lourd’s character even says as much. “It’s nothing. Just debris”

Here are the short scenes edited together. “The Plan”

I had a 20 minute video of just Finn and Rose on ‘The Supremacy’ combined with Poe’s takeover and subsequent hyperspace ram, but I need to re-encode that. I can upload that tomorrow. But I really think it works… Thoughts?
