KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY [The Radical "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi" Cut]

With that said that’s still not a good reason for Obi Wan not to kill Vader in this moment in the show. For that I just assume he can’t bring himself to do it, which is the same thing he had in Revenge of the Sith. He has pity in the same way Bilbo and Frodo have pity on Gollum.

The problem with that is that, like you said, it’s the same. The context of the duel has to be different from what we saw before in RotS to feel meaningful & additive to the franchise.

This was ultimately the reason (and Reeva nonsense) that I decided to completely cut episode 6. Repurposing the duel for the bacta tank does something we haven’t seen in star wars yet. The cave on Dagobah teased it, but now we have a completely internal battle with Obi-Wan. The moment he apologizes to Anakin, the truth comes out, and he is released of the guilt and regains his strength. THAT in my opinion is a compelling and new narrative.

This is the last thing that does bug me a bit. Here’s my suggestion… Save the end of Obi-Wan & Anakin’s fight from “AotC” for the end of the final fight between Obi-Wan & Vader in Episode 6.

I did something similar to this for my edit and it REALLY works, although I moved the Obi-Wan and Vader fight into the bacta tank. Can see it here.

Uploaded a revised ending and my new Bacta tank sequence. Links have been added to the first post. The bacta tank sequence is now about 5 minutes and includes the pre-aotc flashbacks and parts of the Obi-Vader duel from Episode 6. In my edit, the film ends before the Obiwan and Vader final dual, but I wanted to salvage parts of it and work it into the new narrative. I absolutely love it and I hope you guys like it!

Not impressed with episode 6. Felt like a TV season finale with forced happy endings, not an epic movie ending. Even the Vader fight was way too short and a bit boring. And we already saw the broken mask bit with Rebels.

I will be taking bits and pieces from the episode (ie: music cues) but my movie edit will end with Episode 5. A workprint will be available by end of week. Will also do an Obi-Wan Season 2, Episode 0 with the left over pieces to setup season 2.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

My prediction for episode 6: A wounded Reeva battles Owen and Beru on Tatooine while Obi and Vader battle on Mustufar. Owen kills Reeva.

They needed another action sequence to cut into and out of during the final battle. Star Wars always intercuts the final battles. They even forced intercuts during episode 3 Obi/Vader fight with detective Reva and I hated it!

The only reason Reeva is still alive is for this purpose.

Huh, that sounds interesting actually. I have seen one edit (The Jedi’s Apprentice by Cat’s Prime Cuts) that makes AOTC the Episode 1, using the end of TPM near the start. I’d be interested in seeing your ideas to combine them in action, if the workprint’s done enough to send around.

I’ll have something ready this week to share. I’ll have to see if I can track down that edit and check it out.

If you’re starting Episode I mid-podrace then you could have the crawl establish that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan specifically came to Tatooine to check in on reports of a force-sensitive child.

As my edit currently stands, Obi-Wan is not on this trip. This is a Qui-Gon solo mission. First time we see Obi-Wan will be when he is objecting to Qui-Gon going against the council. Establishes an interesting dynamic that Obi-Wan is more in line with the Council’s thinking, and flawed ways, than he is his own Masters. Also puts a different emotion on the scene when Qui-Gon asks to take on Anakin as Padawan. This give’s Obi-wan a bit of a different arc as he grows into a Master.

For example the small moment in Ep4 where Leia takes Obi-Wan’s hand. Compare it to the Ep5 scene of them escaping Vader on Roken’s crowded ship and I see the faint chance that moment could be spliced together with the Ep5 escape, inserted before Roken sits down to talk to Kenobi. The discrepancies in the slightly too empty seats around them could maybe be obscured, but the only issue would be Obi-Wan’s slight costume change.

Both the opening and closing videos above include pieces of ep. 4, including Leia taking Obi’s hand. Great minds think alike!

Child of a Jedi (A Kenobi Movie Edit) [NOW AVAILABLE WP 1.1; Two Different Cuts]
Time

Current Runtimes:

 • Standard Cut: 2hrs 4min
 • Great Escape Cut: 2hrs 5min
 • Season 2 Premier: 27 min

Substantial edits: (more to come)

Meeting Point
https://vimeo.com/724185281

Removed extremely negative Obi-Wan, just seemed out of character. Also they now believe that Freck COULD be their contact. As originally written. “Blast! No one showed up, Woe is us. But good thing this random transport that showed up out of nowhere is here to take us town!” Just bad writing.

Stormtroopers on Truck
https://vimeo.com/724185326

Removed any reference to them looking for Jedi. They are grunts in a mining colony just trying to get home after a hard day in the mines. They wouldn’t know, or care, about Jedi. Also removed Obi-Wan’s slip up by calling Leia by her real name.

Obi-Wan and Reeva chat through the Door
https://vimeo.com/727789324

Rearranged this sequence to allow Reeva’s anger for Obi-Wan to be revealed BEFORE Obi-Wan offers to help. She blames both Vader AND Obi-Wan almost equally for what happened in the Jedi Temple and the only reason she hasn’t previously attempted to take out Vader, is she also wanted Kenobi dead, and she needed Vader/Obi-wan to fight to give her a chance. Only way to explain why Reeva waited 10 years to make her move. Also removed “tell them we wish to talk/negotiate” as this seemed silly to me when they have a door between them and nobody actually does this.

Here are some additional, smaller, edits: (more to come)

Lightsaber Dig
https://vimeo.com/724185259

This one may be considered a Nitpick. I just didn’t like that there were no landmarks or indicators as to where to find his light saber. Also the Sand Dunes would have changed 100x times with the wind and the lightsabers could be buried under 30 feet or more of Sand. I shortened the scene so I no longer think about these things.

Tala Blaster Holster
https://vimeo.com/727782579

I removed the later scene where Bail conveniently and stupidly reveals names and plans over the intercom and unfortunately this also meant losing the character development with Tala. I used the Blaster Holster scene in the Path hideout during character introductions.

Child of a Jedi (A Kenobi Movie Edit) [NOW AVAILABLE WP 1.1; Two Different Cuts]
Time

WORKPRINT 1.1 NOW AVAILABLE. PM for link(s).

There are currently 2 versions, or cuts, of this fanedit.

 • Standard Cut: 2hrs 4min
 • Great Escape Cut: 2hrs 5min

The “Great Escape” cut incorporates the Episode 4 Inquisitor base rescue into the Daiyu rescue. Thanks to Anjohan for the key sequence to making this work. I have taken his initial idea and taken my own approach. This was done by completely restructuring the Daiyu scenes. There are now TWO rescue attempts on Daiyu. The first attempt fails and the second attempt succeeds. I creatively edited the girl drug scene and trooper/kid/fake jedi scenes to set this up. The only differences come between the 25:30-58:00 min portion of the film. This is the planet of Daiyu sequence, everything before and after are the same.

My workprints are pretty close to a V1. I have not created the opening scroll yet. I am looking for transitions that take you out of the film due to technical edit reasons (audio/video/wipes) so these can be cleaned up for V1. May add some additional wipes to enhance that Star Wars feel, am open to suggestions. Also looking for any story inconsistencies or references to cut scenes that I simply missed while editing. I’m pretty locked in on the narrative story and structure I want to tell as I made these for myself, but I am open to discussion on some decisions that were made.

STAR WARS: EPISODE 3 - CHILD OF A JEDI
This edit will be the 3rd in my personal edits of the Rewritten Prequel Trilogy.

 • Episode 1: Prelude to War (TPM and AOTC Combined Edit)
 • Episode 2: Revenge of the Sith
 • Episode 3: Child of a Jedi (Obi-Wan Series Movie Edit; 2 cuts available)

This thread will be utilized for only Episode 3.

KEY CHANGES:

 • New Intros for Leia and Reeva
 • Inquisitors and Jedi removed from Tatooine.
 • Obi-Wan is less pathetic, more hesitant and doubting with some guilt.
 • AOTC Flashbacks and Obi/Vader Ep 6 fight have been moved into the Bacta tank.
 • No 2nd Kidnapping or Inquisitor Base infiltration
 • Reeva dies at the hands of Vader in this film.
 • Movie ends with Vader/Reeva duel and Obi-Wan/crew escaping Jabiim
 • A mid credit scene has been added to show Obi-Wan packing up his cave and seeing Qui-Gon.
 • Season 2 Episode 0 fanedit will show Reeva survive and Obi-Wan meeting Luke so viewers are ready for Obi-Wan Season 2 or the Reeva show.

Opening:
https://vimeo.com/721766565

Bacta Tank Part 1 (with Pre-AOTC Flashbacks)
https://vimeo.com/723458227

Bacta Tank Part 2 (with Ep 6 Obi/Vader scenes) Revised 6/26
https://vimeo.com/724185178

Ending
https://vimeo.com/723458359

Most of Episode 4 and 6 have been cut. There is no 2nd kidnapping or Inquisitor base rescue. I have cannibalized scenes from episodes 4 and 6 to enhance other parts of the film. This includes part of the last Vader and Obi duel.

Much more to come!

Episode I: A Prelude to War (TPM & AOTC combined) [RELEASED]
Time

Link available via PM. Please note this is a combination edit of TPM (44 min) and AOTC (113 min) for a total runtime of 2 HRS and 37 minutes. Enjoy!

“A film is born three times: once when it is written, once again when it is shot and once more when it is edited.” -French filmmaker Robert Bresson

Trailer 1: https://vimeo.com/939102094?share=copy

Trailer 2: https://vimeo.com/939104708?share=copy

Trailer 3: https://vimeo.com/939107070?share=copy

My goals for this edit were the following:

 1. Make Anakin more mature and likeable
 2. Build a believable relationship between Anakin and Padme
 3. Get rid of all dialogue, shots, that i could not stand while keeping the stuff I liked.

EPISODE 1: A PRELUDE TO WAR: OPENING SCROLL

The TRADE FEDERATION has surrounded the peaceful planet of Naboo with a blockade of deadly warships. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn has been sent to escort the Queen of Naboo and her entourage to the capital city, Coruscant.

The Queen’s starship sustained heavy damage while escaping the planet, and after landing on the desert planet of Tatooine, they must gamble on a pod race and a young slave boy named Anakin Skywalker to pay for repairs.

Meanwhile, ambassadors of the Supreme Chancellor have been dispatched to resolve the issue on Naboo…

MORE ABOUT THIS EDIT:

TPM and AOTC have been combined into one film. Here are the broad strokes:

 • We get the scroll, elimination of the Ambassadors (not the Jedi), and then we jump right into the final lap of the pod race.
 • Only Qui-Gon is traveling with the Queen. We meet Obi-Wan later on Coruscant for the first time.
 • Get off Tatooine and get to Coruscant as quickly as possible while maintaining a well paced narrative.
 • Eliminated the trade federation army and Gungan battle at the end. Now it is just an occupation of the city and a blockade in space
 • In AOTC, there is only one assassination attempt on Padme. Two was redundant and unnecessary. Zam Wessell, our favorite changeling, is now responsible only for the explosion on the landing platform.
 • AI upscales of most deleted scenes used to flesh out Anakin and Padme’s relationship.
 • Majority of scenes have been edited in small ways or big ways. List of all edits and changes would be impossible at this point.

With the release of the Obi-Wan series edits, I started to rethink the prequels and wonder what possibilities this could present.

The New Prequel series?

Episode 1: A Prelude to War
Episode 2: Revenge of the Sith
Episode 3: Rogue One or Obi-Wan edit

Most of us have a pretty intimate relationship and working knowledge of these movies and major changes or cuts can pull us out of the film. But if we were viewing this edit, and only this edit, for the very first time, does it work? For THIS Star Wars fan, this is the Episode One I always wanted. This is a personal edit that I primarily created for myself so I could finally enjoy TPM and AOTC. If others enjoy it or are inspired to try something similar, that would simply be icing on the cake.

Thank you to:

 • All fan editors on the OT forum. Your ideas, edits, and passion for Star Wars have not only inspired me, but have provided hours of enjoyment. Without you, this edit would never have been possible
 • Phase3 for his help with the scroll.
 • Varsek for help with isolating some dialogue
 • Bryantmh for his Deleted scene upscales. While I further tweaked them with additional AI passes and color, without his original files, these upscales would not be nearly as good.

Blu-Ray ISO (16 mbps/no menus) and sample scenes coming soon… Depending on interest/demand, there may be a v2 prior to the high bitrate release.

For me, I hate that Obi Wan was that far gone to begin with. Buried his lightsabers to avoid detection, and a bit rusty, but that shot of him barely able to move that tool on on the ship was too much. My edit doesn’t make him quite as pathetic. Facing full powered Vader when you are rusty would be frightening under any circumstance. In my mind he doesn’t need too much to bring him back.

Agree with Revel, never want to see episode 4 again other than bacta scene and Leia taking his hand.

I dunno what the Ep 6 will be about, but I think that if it’s bad the story can actually end on the 5th episode. Reva dies, Obi escapes, the story could kinda end here. If all 5 episodes are wisely trimmed it can still work as a nice coherent story.

I agree. I have a 2 hour 2 min edit currently from eps 1-5 and it feels like a full movie. If we never got another episode, I would be happy with it.

quickly edited end credit scene with Reva.

I reversed the first shot and center channel audio so it opens on the communicator and pushes in to her. Also trimmed her holding the communicator where it looked like she was just casually lying there without a stab wound.

A little more care, and I think this could really work.

We don’t have to show or explain everything. Bad writing tends to explain TOO much. Remember that episode 3 was on an imperial controlled planet with the spaceports obviously under imperial control. Easy enough to track all ships if need be. The ONLY way to explain Vader letting Obi Wan go, is that they are tracking them.

Depending on what they do in episode 6, it may be best to end a movie edit with episode 5. The Reeva character’s death here may be the best option we get, just cut her final moments with the communicator. I just completed a movie workprint for eps 1-5 and the length is exactly 2 hours 2 min. For me, I am quite satisfied with the movie I was able to get out of these 5 episodes. I am over the moon with Ewan’s performance at times, and using the edit to fix some of the bad writing and editing, it isn’t that bad of a TV movie. Nearly on par with Attack of the Clones in my opinion.

I have a feeling, that Reeva finding the communicator and now knowing about Luke, was about setting up season 2 which will take place entirely on Tatooine with Reeva as the Antagonist. I don’t think we see her in episode 6.

I originally hoped to get 2 movies out of these 6 episodes, now I’m questioning the possibility of just ONE quality movie edit.

I expected more out of an Obi-wan series, Lucasfilm needed a homerun from their greatest characters, Kenobi and Vader, and instead we get a lazy pop fly to center field. Just my 2 cents.

Here is hoping this community can do something special with this clunker because I have completely lost faith in Lucasfilm at this point. With that being said, it does have its moments, they are just few and far between.

If this was a 10 or 12 episode season, I think this episode would have been fine, but we have only 6 episodes and Obi-wan just fought Vader and was nearly killed. Instead of the emotional impact and ramifications this should have had on Obi-Wan, we have to deal with ANOTHER Leia rescue mission. These writers are awful. Zero creativity and lazy.

This episode just screamed TV filler episode and a bad one at that. Thankfully, it shouldn’t be too hard to skip it in the movie edits. While Obi-Wan is fighting Vader, Leia actually gets to the transport ship and is not intercepted by Reva. Also fixes the Reva magically appearing at the end of the tunnel.

Utilize the Bacta tank opening scene as a transition to “hopefully” Episode 5. Possibly utilize some of the other inquisitor base scenes to fill out transitions.

The fire scene needs edited. take away Vader holding up his arm to block the fire. Vader is not bothered by fire. And let the Loader droid IMMEDIATELY enter the scene to grab OB1. This scene is drawn out way too long.

Do we know that since he may have ptsd from being burned?

In the comics, he walks through fire, lava, and more. His suit protects him from all of it. Vader would NOT be afraid of fire. He even built his castle on Mustufar.
