Laser, I posted my opinion on the magnetic gunpowder thing a page or two back. Despite the fact that a bit of graphite was added to gunpowder after WW1 still doesn't account for the "swarm of bees" it creates through the warehouse. Plus, the skull clearly only attracts certain types of metals - gold for instance - and not others as seen in the wareehouse segment. So the whole concept to me is weak and just another CGI bit that could be cut. The cut I suggested (after Indy asks for a compass to just before he asks for the shotgun shells) seems like it should work fine and STILL plays into the magnetism of the skull.

As for the Part Time line - that would be great if the one from the Making Of would work. Much more effective.

Keep up the good work!

Oh and by the way, a fella over at fanedits.org completed what looks to be a slight edit of KOTCS, but has been unable to upload it. He seems to lack the tech prowess of Laser (based soley on the scope of his changes), but some of his ideas are similar to what we have discussed and I'm curious to hear his changes to the film's score. Just a heads up.

Agree completely with topdawgs comments here in reference to JohnGreenArt's suggestions.

JohnGreenArt is right on target in regards to the torches and Indy figuring things out - I really hope my suggestion for the sand puzzle in the end will help Indy look like he's actually playing a role here. There's even a shot of the pillars that we could move around (we as in not me, but the guys who know what the hell they are doing with all of this technical stuff) to give a clue to Indy as to how the whole mechanism might work, then we can see him knock the stone face blocks out. If this isn't clear enough let me know and I'll give more details on how this can be accomplished.

The torch suggestion is also a very good idea.

But the others, though I'm not thrilled with how the movies pull it off exactly, don't seem like they will work.

Nice job on this, still not sure about th whole bringing Indy out of the trunk first though.

I do like how the scene moves more quickly. Though I do have 1 suggestion: Cut the scene after she says what I want is here (pointing at his head) it will give a reason for his hat to be high on his head in the next shot and still makes sense considering it is his knowledge she wants.

Man, between Laser, InfoDroid and now Cyclades -we may be in need of 1 ultimate version incorporating the best of each version.

Deadlines and 24 hour shifts? Laser, we must be in similar lines of work.

What thoughts do ya'll have on the music of the film?

Also, I did a very (by very I mean VERY!) quick and rough edit to see if we could eliminate the "magnetic" gunpower bit and go straight from Indy asking for a compass to him getting the shotgun shells. Think it works! The gunpowder bit makes no sense (see scientific reasons for this above) but also it's just pointless CGI and we all know the less of that the better.

Yes, bits of these themes are worked in here and there, but some of the scenes that lack the weight that they need, IMO, could really benefit from some of the moving and familiar music that we love from the OT.

KOTCS for many of us strays a bit too much from the rough and tumble, thrilling, character rich, dangerous, wonderful OT. If we were to add more of the familiar (not TOO much) into key scenes such as the chase/sword fight scene (current music is TOO light hearted), the Akator discovery (grail theme would be cool here), the mushroom clodu and UFO scenes, etc, it would make the 19 year removed family adventure more so an Indiana Jones Film!

Again, I wouldn't want to over do it, but it would help tie them all together.

Gunpowder consists of potassium nitrate (saltpeter), charcoal, and sulfur. I know cause I made some in High school chemistry right in front of my clueless teacher. It is not magentic. I like the shotgun thing though and love the hanging lights pointing to the box while Indy is on the crates. One of the few true Spielberg shots in the film. I say we cut from Indy asking for a compass to the scene with the shotgun shells.

I loved the Hound Dog opening as well. Not a must by any means, just think the whole opening lasts a BIT too long. This includes the Indy/Spalko dialog so if we cut that and the gunpowder bit, it would be fine.

Agree about Part time and Not as easy as it used to be lines though. These were better delivered in the trailer.

What are your thoughts on the "Hi, Mac!" before Indy punches Mac. I like the "Jonesy!!" then smack! Indy lays him out. The chase needs less light hearted humor I think. This would make it a bit more rough and tough like Indy should be.

Ok watched the dvd last night and have a few more ideas:

1.) Why can't we cut after Indy askes for a compass to the point where he uses the shotgun shell BB's to find the right crate? That way we NEVER have to see the gunpowder bit.

2.) Music - first of all since this fil strayed so far from the others, I feel like only some of the excellent and familiar music from the OT could reel it back in line. Also, several scenes could use more tension and music could help here. I HATE the kiddy happy music during Mutt's sword fight, why not put in a more thrilling and dangerous piece of music from ROTLA or TOD?

3.) I REALLY want Indy to just punch Mac instead of the "Hi MAC!" goofiness. The commercial made this edit and I love it.

4.) We can cut the vine swinging completely - maybe. Very rarely can you tell that Mutt is not in the jeep during the chase. The last time we see him before the vine thing, he kinda reaches for the windsheild - the first time we see him after the vine he's down on the floor board. If we cut the chase down as done in one of the posted edits.

5.) Cut a LITTLE from the "Hound Dog" sequence in the beginning. I like the scene, but it goes on a bit long.

Was watching some of the behind the scenes extras on KOTCS and really found myself liking the delivery on certain lines better than in the actual movie ("Not as easy as it used to be" for example).

Also, I saw a trailer for the DVD and really liked how when Mac pops up in the chase scene with "Jonesy!!" that Indy just knocks the hell out of him instead of first saying "Hi Mac!" Not that the line is that bad, just that there is enough ligh heartedness in what should be a dangerous chase and Indy needs some edge.

THoughts?

Funny, I've never noticed all the skulls in this movie (mushroom cloud, waterfall, etc) anyway...

The waterfall thing is a tough. Seems line the only way to do it - which is probably a pretty big job - is to somehow drop a cliff (in place of the waterfall) behind one of the shots (1:29:30 or 1:30:06- ish) where the vehicle is falling down one of the falls. This would go right after they go off the cliff. This shot would also have to be flipped. Anyway, this way we could see them fly off the cliff and hit the water and climb back in. Then we could cut the Ox and Mutt dialog, drop their asses again and again if we wanted to in quick succession. Or cut the three times it drops thing all together and go straight to them walking to the rocks after the third fall.

Easy for me to say, huh?
