Am I the only one who doesn't have any desire to rewatch the movies outside of the OT and Rogue One?

You know i’ve never seen Solo but lots of people tell me they were expecting it to be crap but it’s actually quite good.

I think it’s definitely worth a watch. I remember when I first watched it in the cinema back in 2018 I thought was entertaining enough and not much more, but it’s grown on me a lot. On a rewatch I noticed many more things I liked, mostly the themes of the movie I hadn’t noticed and realising it was funnier than I’d originally given it credit for. Alden Ehrenreich is great as a young Han, he’s not just a Harrison Ford impersonator, he takes the character of a younger and more optimistic Han Solo and kind of makes it his own. I honestly Lucasfilm had just recast Luke Skywalker for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, with Mark Hamill’s blessing. We could have got another great charming performance.

Not everything put out by Disney is automatically soulless corporate trash, though. Once in a while Disney employs creators who really know what they’re doing and put their own vision into their work. Take Dave Filoni for example. Is everything he does perfect in my eyes (Bad Batch, Book of Boba Fett chapter 6…)? No. Am I worried he might be pressured to compromise on and change up his story ideas by the big Disney suits, since his work is suddenly the forefront of the Star Wars franchise? Yes. But there’s pretty consistent iconography in his work, and we know for a fact he’s a huge fan of the Star Wars galaxy and knows it very well - as well as what outside influences to use, such as Princess Mononoke, Lord of the Rings, even Godzilla.

This isn’t even to mention the many writers working in the publishing side of things who get to deliver their visions for a Star Wars story, pretty free of Disney meddling. Take Timothy Zahn’s new Ascendancy trilogy. From what I hear that has so much of its own lore and is so separate from other Star Wars stories that it barely feels like the same galaxy.

They still put it in the movie, instead of the scene of Luke mourning Han Solo.

Arguably the scene where he wanders through the Millennium Falcon is also a scene of him mourning Han, but this is valid. The point I was making is that the milking scene was brought up as an example as if that’s all that Luke does in the movie, implying he doesn’t have a major part or something, which is far from the truth.

LEGO 'Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' video game thread

I got it for Nintendo Switch the other day, only played a little so far but it’s really good. Mostly it’s giving me nostalgia for the films and making me want to watch them again - using the original score while you’re exploring each location is just perfect. Enjoying the humour and although I’m no gaming expert, the combat mechanics as well. Sometimes it’s fun just to lift a battle droid with the force and throw it into orbit.

What 'a Star Wars Story' / anthology / spinoff film would you like to see?

I’m afraid you missed the joke, friend.

There is nothing about your original message that suggests it’s sarcasm in any way. You wouldn’t have been the first person I’ve seen expressing interest in learning more about Holdo’s backstory and relationship with Leia. I personally don’t like the character either, but I can at least recognise that saying “no one” wants to see her again is just being obtuse.

By far my favourite thing about that trilogy is the characters. It handles the OT characters beautifully and many of the new ones are all-time favourites of mine - Mara Jade, Thrawn, Garm Bel Iblis, Talon Karrde. I love them all.

I agree the endings to both storylines seems to happen very quickly, but I do think they’re great endings.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

I have Disney+ anyway for the actual good stuff they have on there. If an episode REALLY puts me off I would consider pirating just so I don’t contribute to the view count.

It slightly annoys me that Star Wars is such an easy money maker, because nerds like me are so invested in the universe anyway that we’ll keep watching a series out of curiosity, even if we don’t like it that much. Piracy is a good way around this - you can indicate, even in such a small way, that you didn’t like a series - but also privately keep watching to see if it gets better anyway.

I agree. With the prospect of duelling Vader again, despite his lines in Star Wars, it feels like Disney are contradicting the original trilogy for fan service. I’m definitely accepting that all of this will happen and am still looking forward to seeing it - I might as well enjoy it! - but I’m getting a strong feeling I may criticise it a lot once it ends.

But why Jedi_bendu? Why support this stuff?

Because I’m actually gonna give it a fair shot first. That sounds reasonable to me.

'Star Wars: <strong>The High Republic</strong>' era publishing project (was aka 'Project Luminous')

Star Wars Explained have done some nice videos on the High Republic since phase I of the project has now come to a close:

Why You Should Be Reading The High Republic - Phase One Review

Everything I LOVE About The High Republic Phase One

Also, I finished The Fallen Star recently. It’s my least favourite of the three main novels - I thought it felt somewhat incomplete as it constantly refers to Avar Kriss’ mission, while that’s actually seen in the comic series, and it was much more dependent on a reader having knowledge of other entries in the High Republic (such as Into the Dark, which I’ve read, and Out of the Shadows, which I haven’t) than the previous two books. Still a thrilling read though.

<strong>The Mandalorian</strong> - a general discussion thread - * <em><strong>SPOILERS</strong></em> *
Time

There are some leaked set photos and very interesting - and credible - rumours accompanying them. I’ll hide this in case anyone doesn’t want possible plot spoilers.

[Images removed by Moderator. See Rule 7.]

A very reliable source has backed up these leaked photos as real. Apparently these unknown red troopers will be fighting Din Djarin alongside Praetorian Guards from The Last Jedi. It makes sense that Snoke would be involved, related to the mysterious cloning plot they began in season 2.

I won’t name the source since evidence suggests they’ve done some really nasty things, but they’ve leaked things such as the Grand Inquisitor in the Obi-wan series, and the entire plot of The Rise of Skywalker, before.

I wonder if they might redo the Rebels Ahsoka v Vader moment, when we hear both his voices. I think this was one of my favorite Rebels moments.

I’m expecting this might happen in the Ahsoka series, what with Hayden Christensen being involved and all.

Most of the time I’m firmly on the side of certain beloved moments staying in animation and not getting live action adaptations for the sake of fan service… but this, I really would like to see.
