Version 5 is on spleen now? Or the version before?
Version 5 is on spleen now? Or the version before?
I see the movement on the lips … certainly an improvement! I am also curious then blending aspects from the ESB yoda with this too. Hmmmm, the possibilities…
Agree with Ash.
The only possible touch up with these edits would be someone with a ton of time and know how to polish up some of the deleted scene footage. Some of those scenes are a bit visually distracting, but are MUCH better scenes then what the official release from Lucas.
But that is not necessary, just a way to make it PERFECTLY polished.
This is still THE go to prequel edits.
That is some seriously impressive work right there. Perfect!
Hey Hal, I know you are tinkering around on your other prequel edits, is this one being touched/polished like the others?
I’ll be monitoring your activity Hal! Is the current version 4.2?
That’s sounding pretty very good Hal! Looking forward to the final product!
Wow, I will admit that Vader dialogue was a lot smoother than I thought it would be coming from another source. Impressive. Pretty dang impressive man!
I will say from the edit, granted I have not watched it yet … I would prefer the removal of Bor Gullet. Personally that whole thing was goofy and distracting.
Hal I look forward to your polishing of this edit. It’s certainly my go-to prequel edit … along with the other ones!
It would be neat if disney … or those with really fine skills … can go through ALL the deleted scenes to help polish them up. I like your use of them in your edits which were “better” scenes for the movie … just not as polished looking.
I’ve been away from the forums for awhile, and wow, excited to hear v2.1 is done. Yay! can’t wait to watch it! Downloading it now. I am glad the disk art is available on the google drive too for those who print on discs like me!
I found this take on Canto Bight scenes, and Finn’s journey in the film - from going to being mainly concerned for his friend, all the way to committing to the Rebel cause - to be of interest…

(that’s not to say that message could have been made a little clearer and some of the scenes didn’t play too well)
Hmmm, very interesting … I get the take on it for his character. Some parts of it still stick out and if there was an edit that keeps parts of the Casino scenes … it can be trimmed quite a bit to keep that character building for Finn.
I actually kinda want to slow the cave footage down, ESB style.
Lol, that would be a big throwback to ESB.
It may be a bit triply for how long the scene is!
So Far Hal I can dig your list. Anything to cut down the Casino scenes would be great!
Removing the high ground is ALWAYS a good thing. I understand your thinking about the situation due to the original line in ROTJ.
however, I think at this time Obi Wan has already lost hope in Anikan. I personally don’t think that extra line is needed or at least does not fit quite right. That’s just my opinion.
I really liked 90% of your Rouge One edit, so I am sure I will mostly like this one.
I’ve just seen the movie once and need to watch it again to really focus on each detail.
I admit the bombing scene was kind of strange. Slow … and I mean SLLLOOOOOWWWW moving bombers? It was goofy.
It seemed like the only purpose of the whole scene is for Poe to later “learn” about his hoy-headedness and needlessly sacrificing people.
Anyway, I will follow this edit!
Did anyone ever get v2.0 to burn to a BD50 and work in a player? I wasn’t able to, either with the PCM audio or the AC3. Granted, I only tried it on a PS4, but I have no problems with my Despecialized discs which were burned using the same method…
I was able to with DVD fab 10 using my mac. I’ve played it successfully on my standalone blu ray player.
I would be HIGHLY interested on a Last Jedi edit. i did enjoy/entertained by Last Jedi, it is a very decisive movie indeed with some very nessary edits.
I would think that edit would be similar to your prequel edits Hal. Trim the fat (unnecessary humor/bad scenes) and replace scenes maybe with the supposed high quality deleted scenes to help with the good parts of the movie.
The problem with the scene was Hux going along with the joke, made him look stupid and started to look like a comedy skit.
Agreed, hence why it needs to be trimmed to remove that part of it.
I gotta agree with Hal and Ash. There has to be humor in this, plus it adds meat onto Poe’s character flaw that leads up to the bombing run. He is a hot head, but the scene dragged on for a bit too long, the gag got stale.
Seemless!
That is like the cherry on top!
As for the issue of why the First Order is slowly running them down rather than destroying them with TIEs, perhaps the reason could be that Snoke wanted Leia alive so she could personally surrender to him, and he would also suspect that she would be the most likely person to have the location of Luke. This could be easily communicated in the crawl, and that way the First Order would just blockade the Resistance base until after most of the island scenes and when Leia decides to launch her attack.
The dreadnaught was about to destroy the cruiser before it got bombed, so keeping them alive was not a priority.
A edit can convey that, but it would need to remove some scenes or hopefully change dialogue to relay the thought of disabling the cruiser. But again, a handful of TIE’s could also disable the cruiser by shooting out the engines at the back.
On a movie standpoint they were adding suspense with a survival time limit, but the logic behind it was silly on a logic standpoint.
But to be fair, star wars battle logic hasn’t really been there starting from the first movie. So we could let that slide…
Why would you want to cut the bit with Kylo’s mask?
Mostly because I thought it made sense thematically for him to lose the mask when he kills his father. (And it’s never shown being recovered from the catwalk.)
I was willing to let that go when I found out he’d have the mask again for TLJ, but then it turned out he only had it…so that he could get rid of it in his first scene.
I understand the thematic purpose behind this, but think the same message is gotten across with Snoke’s dialogue, and I think getting rid of the mask in TLJ altogether won’t be all that much work, and the important dialogue can be preserved.
The mask was more for his reverence to Darth Vader, who he wanted to be. So I don’t think after killing his father changes that. Plus, as other had said, it adds more to the scene with Snoke calling Kylo out on it.
Granted I agree the assumption for the audience is he didn’t pick up the helmet … unless he made more than one? Has a few spares in case he breaks one from a tantrum of his? 😉
Editing super leia seems pretty easy to do. Essentially removing the sections where she is sucked out … cut out her flying in. You can cut from the crew running down the hall and keep the part with her hand at the window.
The BB-8 and walker scene seems a bit tougher… I think I didn’t mind it too much.
That would be a subtle explanation of finn’s reasoning. I think you should add that.
Doesn’t matter to me at all. Of course, I put Padme on livable bedrest.
About the sound effect for the Destroyer… by the time we cut back to Finn it seems like people are already reacting to the spectacle. If we are to add a sound it’s have to be immediately prior to or during the cut to that shot.
Yep, there would be a small time window for it if it were to be used.
First viewing of the movie, so I will be seeing it a few times to have a better feel for it or think of things that stuck out.
The Superman Leia scene just felt … awkward. Didn’t feel right. For editing purposes, my first rough draft thought is having the first moment of the bridge getting hit with the missiles, cuts to the outside of the bridge exploding. Eventually, it cuts to the crew running up to the door to see Leia’s hand. Not sure how smooth that can be, but one could assume that she used the force to keep her safe in there, knowing the bridge was going to get hit.
I love my Yoda, but holy cow, Yoda didn’t look like Yoda. Jim Henson knew how to make puppets … 30+ years ago! That I would say … should have used CGI if that was going to be Yoda’s look.
I think the Island scenes could be trimmed down, the pacing seemed to have slowed down a bit too much for me.
Just initial thoughts before seeing it again without the fresh new eyes on it.
