Also, if anyone who’s watched the workprint wants to give feedback on anything that stood out - bad or good - I’d appreciate it! There’s no pressure, if you just want to watch the workprint, but if you do want to give your thoughts on it, then I’m very happy to hear them.

I watched parts of it yesterday, not fully due to unforeseen distraction and whatnot, so I’ll try again and do a combo of your dialogue change script and “see” it on screen. Of course, it’s a work print so its not meant to be a perfect reflection on it be “complete” … even let alone if some things are not “possible” to make it seamless.

I will say though, one spot that I think is a standout is removing the dialogue with Rey in the cave. Personally, it was a mistake to have Rey “explaining” things. It took me out of the scene and had me feel, nothing. No impact before he actually speaking in that scene.

By simply removing the voice over, we are now engaged. It has more impact. It’s just better. Don’t tell us what is going on, let’s feel/see it for ourselves.

Anyway, I’ll do my best to sit down and watch it since I have to be frank, I just don’t like TLJ so it’s hard to motivate myself. (As always, for those reasons, if you like the movie as is, or like it with improvements, please enjoy it and more power to you. I hold nothing against people liking or disliking this movie or this trilogy in general. That’s great, it is! I wish I did, but I can’t. I think I need to add this kind of disclaimer in my signature so I won’t take up too much of people’s time with this. Lol.)

Star Wars: <strong>The Rise Of Skywalker</strong> Redux Ideas thread

This is a very random out of the box idea, but was thinking it could have been interesting if it was revealed that all the Sith troopers were the original clone trooper template from the prequels, Temura Morrison. Probably no way to properly execute it in film other than perhaps giving some of them the clone distinctive audio during the final battle and perhaps finding a way to mention a clone army.

I found a sound bank of Republic commando sound clips. I did add some more of the grunting and yelling sounds at certain points. It isn’t obvious, but those who recognize the sounds/voice would be able to pick it up.

Sentence mixing it in my head, it doesn’t seem like it’d sound natural. There ought to be emphasis somewhere in the sentence, like “Leia told me she sensed the end of her Jedi path.”

This was my go at it:

Oh I like the direction of that. A lot. I do agree with others, maybe adding a pause at some point would help “sell” this since it feels like a build up without a pay off, but having a pause, even a moment, would help it.

Neither is ideal, but (to some people, myself included) the choice to leave the Jedi path to focus on raising a child is more intuitively understandable than choosing to leave to prevent her son from dying when she leaves the Jedi path and her son dies anyway.

Yep. It’s at least “better” than the original line with this rationale.

The problem with this approach either way though is that you have the essentially less well explored Snoke followed by the essentially less well explored Overseer, putting a lot of weight on the idea of Kylo as the primary defeatable antagonist.

I agree … it would, in some ways, be a step backwards. Where it would be even more less connected with not just the trilogy, but the entire saga as well. Not to be the downer or anything, I’m just not sure if making the Palpy replacement be some “bigger” bad sith guy/gal who has no connection to anything that’s been seen since The Phantom Menace till now isn’t the best route.

Man talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. Even if you remove all the palpy stuff to JUST have Kylo be the main baddy, the ending doesn’t quite work and is a bit anti climatic. But I think a lot of people would love to remove the whole palpy thing since it was so badly set up and not really based on anything.

I like the brain storming and maybe something could be thought out/figured out!

I wonder if his employment has anything to do with Luke’s upcoming appearances in various shows? I bet his methods are a lot cheaper and obviously look better than that CGI.

It was a huge improvement. I bet with his skills the can really do a young like/Lisa/etc for shows and it would look a whole lot better.

This movie bro. (Or trilogy to be honest, for me personally.)

Me too, however the work achieved by the OT.com community does improve every layer of the ST quite a bit, around the TLJ pivot point. I will never watch TROS theatrical cut again, but Ascendant v2 is an edit I will definitely watch and most probably enjoy.

I agree, it is impressive what’s being done and there is no way I can watch the non fan edits of these movies since they really help remove the gunk. Although I’ll still not fundamentally “accept/agree” the trilogy, I can at least enjoy them for what they are.

I’m curious for V2 and an eventual Nobody version. Work it skilled fan editors, you are our only hope!

I think the problem is the whole thing is tied together with stupid rationale/writing that makes it hard to make any perfectly clean/rational changes.

If her parents were always dead beats, then you have to scrub a lot of the Orchi subplot, especially her vision scene “remembering” what happened. If that is the case, then there isn’t a ship to remember. You can still have it where he was suppose to find her but stumbled into quick sand one day and died while looking around for her. So then what’s the “real” story Kylo explains? “Oh yeah, your parents were jerks, but not quite nobodies since Palps got it on Clone style … you’re his grand daughter.”

If her parents were noble, then really TLJ needs to be trimmed during the throne room dialogue. She repressed the noble part of her parents, to then repress the hope of them returning to them being dead beats that died on the desert? Also, then it all is just kinda shallow anyway since it’s been back and forth. “Well, remember when I said they were bad, yeah, they weren’t, I lied. They loved ya and got stabbed.”

Personally, I don’t have a real answer to make it make sense. It may just be choosing the lesser of two evils.

(I still vote adjusting TLJ for Rey not to admit it … then she is still suppressing stuff and just isn’t sure about her parents … until it’s all revealed in this movie. Plus it goes along with “People keep telling me who I am, and I don’t know” to include “People keep telling me about my parents, but I don’t know”)

We’d kicked around modifying TLJ but I really don’t want to.

The retcon of her parents being Palpatine flavored is one thing, but we’re trying to make it fit in better by reducing the double repression.

“You were right, they were no one… I’ll tell you what happened to them and why.” (No direct mention of selling her to protect her, so there’s not the implication she’s repressing something further about that.)

The only line remaining that muddies that slightly modified angle is “You remember more than you say.” It implies she’s keeping something down, and it isn’t clear what it might be.

In TFA and TLJ Rey believes her parents were ‘noble’ and loved her, then “admits” they were deadbeats and feels some consolation in the confession that she shouldn’t keep looking for them and move on. Then when their memory is tapped into in TROS she gets angry and tries to fight away the pain, recalling that yes indeed they loved her very much and all.

Fair enough, I mean, no matter what it’s all just such a mess and trying to alleviate it, even a little, is helpful.

LOL at “when their memory is tapped into in TROS she gets angry and tries to fight away the pain, recalling that YES INDEED THEY LOVED HER VERY MUCH AND ALL.”

Rey: HOW DARE THEY BE GOOD PEOPLE! ANGER AT THESE REPRESSED REPRESSED MEMORIES COMING OUT!)

This movie bro.

Some time back, I kind of remember either a conversation or some clips a person made during the throne room scene with Kylo and Rey that it was just Kylo saying/telling Rey her parents were nobodies, etc. and she stayed quiet. I wonder if revisiting that idea would help this movie where she doesn’t admit she “knows” they are nobodies in the last movie, but it’s more like she listens to Kylo and could believe that? So it’s not so much her either “admitting it” or “agreeing” with anything in TLJ, but the full on “remembering” happens now?
