For the “just” word, would a soft “d” sound fix it?
For the “just” word, would a soft “d” sound fix it?
That is an improvement this time around. Still sticks out a bit, vocal lines are tough to get just right! I do like the idea of just Rey.
Obviously the next big change is to have her look to the other side and see Force Ghost Palps with a creepy smile to help her sell the “just Rey” line.
😉
a very crazy idea occurred to me, hahahaha …
It would be difficult to carry out … but perhaps it could be done.
Now Ajan kloss is naboo right?
for the end of the movie, imagine a celebration in Theed, (night images taken from TPM)
with rotoscopies of the protagonists, and adding people celebrating in the palace square, (and without dialogues, haha, star wars style.) there is a moment of silence, in which r2d2 projects images of the entire saga, in hologram mode. … it would be a beautiful ending … I know it’s crazy hahaha
Ok Jonh you got some work to do! 😉
I agree, minus Anakin.
Fair enough, I could go either way honestly.
As for Adam’s face … a could “adding” more hair to the side of his head help sell it? It’s not a close up and he is not solid (semi transparent) so it gives a lot more leeway in doing that.
Here’s a shot from the Exegol fight: https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-hID7feI5YSGBFuSl-2r50iA-original.jpg
His hair sticks out quite a bit on the sides, a la “poofier”. The footage used at the end his really thin, which makes his head seem larger than it should from the video. Maybe that would do it?
Yeahh!! change the direction of the eyes, as you suggested 😃
I just noticed this, but in the part with the four jedi standing behind Rey, is that ROTJ footage reused of Obi-Wan? Maybe that could be too recognisable for some people since it’s such a familar shot.

this better?
Dang it Jonh, you are doing a great job! That part is done! You are doing so good!
@nl0428 I remember that and idkartist was on this thread or the other one and talked about it. I like the concept of it to really “tie” in the full on Skywalker saga aspect of it. Before there was discussion about either having or not having Anakin in it, but with what Jonh is doing with the force ghost scenes … it would fit nicely now. I would now age Anakin a bit as Jonh has done and give him the Jedi robes. A lot of work, but with these amazing editors on this site, it seems doable.
The footage and expression that was used for Adam Driver fits with the scene very well, there is something “off” about his head. Lot’s of discussion about camera angle, kind of camera, etc. etc. to explain why it may seem off and I personally can’t get pass it since each time I watch it, my brain triggers “Something about it is not right.” If that could at all be “corrected” and touch up Anakin, I think it would be fitting especially on top of what Jonh has been doing.
I think to “simply” the conversation regarding Anakin’s wardrobe … this picture should be the simple answer:
The last time we “see” Anakin as a Force Ghost … this was his outfit.
Jonh, watched your latest videos. The first one is pretty much perfect, I can’t critique it in any way. I like it a lot. I really enjoyed the touch of aging Anakin a bit. It is subtle, not glaring, which helps sell things nicely without being “too much” if that makes any sense.
For the second video, It is going in a very, very nice direction. The Obi-Wan and Yoda part is fantastic, couldn’t find any touch ups needed unless someone spots something. I also appreciate the more “softer” shield. Although my choice would be to give Rey a slight glow or something other than the shield, the more subtle shield is much better than your first draft.
Anakin and Luke is looking good too. If possible, if it isn’t too much to do I would also suggest if someone could mimic his outfit as shown in ROTJ to fit more in that. Now with what you did with Anakin in this, I would be up for someone to age Hayden/Anakin in that movie in connection with this. It would really tie in things nicely. But that is an idea for another project!
All in all. This is fantastic and I am digging it. I think the main area to work on is touching up Anakin and Luke with proportions and then possibly changing Anakin’s Wardrobe IF it is feasible to do. A side note myself would be trying an alternate without the shield but more of a glow. But that is more of a personal choice on that one.
Keep it up! This is great!
@poppasketti I am digging the vats! The red all the way. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Very nice.
I guess Luke was acting rashly, against his masters’ insistence. Whereas Rey is like a new Force messiah. Just different situations.
I think Rey glowing is more appropriate than a shield that doesn’t deflect anything.
I agree with this. I think a glow would be better over a shield of some sort … that doesn’t really do anything since the lightening is hitting the blades.
I agree with Hal and SomethingStarWarsRelated. It does seem a little “off” or “distracting” I would just have a stationary shot of Luke like the others. The rest of it, flawless. Perfect!
^^^ Ok Rose, we know … the whole love thing to defeat our enemies … we got it!
😛
I am more certain of Rey having a slight glow (kinda force ghost but not as strong) over the shield. Been thinking about this in the back of my mind all day and I think that will be the best outcome to keep it subtle and really help the idea of the force ghosts “empowering her.”
Also, if anyone else is able to since I am more than useless when it comes to this kind of stuff … Changing the lighting redirect to either purple … or even yellow maybe to match Rey’s lightsaber at the end … would be nice too. It needs to be more than just a “simple” redirect … Either yellow or purple lighting being redirected would really seal it all up.
Jonh, you rock! I am really, really liking the direction you are going. For your “force sheild” I would try to simply add a slight glow to Rey instead of a shield like thing. Keep if fairly subtle, since the next shots of Yoda and Obi-Wan really sell the idea of them assisting.
Heck, the next scene when she redirects the lighting can show either or both Anakin and Luke doing the same gesture as Yoda and Obi-Wan could be really cool.
Using that with the combination of Purple Leia Lightsaber and the force ghosts is just too good to be true. Please continue your great work.

I like the direction, I think the shield needs to be more subtle personally. Much softer and fades in and out subtlety. Having Yoda and Obi wan shots already sells it, so I vote more subtle shield!
Of better yet, have her with a force ghost glow effect. Still subtle though, the force ghosts already sell the idea they are helping some how.
Here’s a question (from the color blind guy)
As for Palps getting electrocuted (again) but this time explodes … I was thinking, what if the lighting going BACK to him is a different color, maybe purple? White?
Why?
Though it is still kinda lame, in a sense, that Palps AGAIN gets defeated by his own lighting. But what if it was more “special” … or maybe Jedi-powered. Using Jonh’s force ghosts being introduced, the view COULD assume it was being returned with more of a Jedi Ghost finisher. I don’t know if that sounds lame or anything … but it would be neat to try and add some more depth to this final battle then Palps getting zapped by his own lighting. Again.
I just realized. When the saber flies into Rey’s hand, it’ll be that much more satisfying to visibly be Leia’s, right after we hear her very first posthumous word.
Resistance headquartered on Naboo, the Death Star wreckage on Endor, Leia having a purple blade, Jedi ghosts joining the fight, Rose’s theme bringing some resonance to Finn, and other things. None of these “solve” issues with the movie, but each are great to see. This is gonna be special, and hopefully a good note for this interpretation of the saga to go out on.
I am liking this, it feels like things are getting all tied together of a good blend between the good of the prequel movies and the nostalgia of the OT. The force ghost inclusion from Jonh is absolutely amazing. I totally dig the purple lightsaber now seeing it.
If a good VFX guy can show a planet from each era (PT, OT and ST) with a Star Destroyer being destroyed/exploding/falling apart … I will be turned on!
… I said it.

small head and slight smile
Sorry, been away for a bit and realize I need to follow this better since your work Jonh is fantastic. It’s between 3 and 4 to me. I do like the smirk since it fits his personality. Thinking of him against Grevious in ROTS and letting himself be sacrificed against Vader in ANH.
Jedi ghosts advanced
I have replaced yoda and anakin, and have made them more visible…

Wow, this is very, very impressive! I am digging this big time.
Using the elements provided by LILLIAN, here’s the current shape of the ‘squeaky wheel’ moment. There’s an ugly shot that I hope to improve upon, and which can’t remain as is anyway because the widescreen matte is out of place. The AOTC score fades out over the scene rather than ending at a non-arbitrary point, which may be all right. Rey’s “okay” is culled from TLJ.
It ain’t much, but I was lucky to carve out even 25 minutes this weekend to sit down at my computer at all. (Believe it or not, I kneel at my computer nowadays because the baby wall and chair placement make it difficult to hop up instantly as I almost always need to be ready to do. Fan editing hurts my knees now.)
That’s looking good to me there Hal, despite your work station situation. 😉
Here’s a question for everyone for a discussion.
One of the … many issues … I had with the movie has to do with Rey meeting Snoke for the first time. The issue I have is Snoke essentially reinforced the idea about “Balance.”
Rian was trying to change the narrative that basically, the Force balance itself out and there is no unbalance. Strong Light. Strong Dark. One side gets stronger … then the other side gets stronger. The issue with that is it invalidates the previous movies. (mainly the prequels that outright talks about balance and whatnot)
I was Ok with Luke’s “Rational” on the whole thing since he became disalutioned and turned is back on his original beliefs. (Like his father Anakin did with the Jedi order … oh father like son.) However, at the end of the movie (and reinforced with The Rise of Skywalker) Luke reverts back and owns up on his “wrong” view. He was wrong like Anakin’s believe in Revenge of the Sith was wrong that the Jedi were evil.
However, we have Snoke that agreed with Luke that essentially … the Force is balanced and Good Rises to meet with Dark. I hated that. It invalidates the prequel movies. It invalidates the rule of two. It even invalidates A New Hope that “there used to be a bunch of Jedi Knights that brought peace.” Since we only see 1 bad guy (emperor) and a turned coat Jedi (Darth Vader/Anakin).
I know an argument could be made that “Well, Snoke meant in total power, not individuals. Could be one strong bad guy and a bunch of weak strong guys.” But that argument doesn’t really work since Snoke was explicit that Kylo would meet his equal … which he strangly thought it could have been Luke. Which in itself is … odd. Somehow Luke, a Jedi Master, had to work his way up to Kylo? WTF?
Anyway, long story short, would the idea of removing this part of the speech help keep things more cohesive with the entire trilogy? It’s ok if Luke keeps with his “belief of the Force and Balance” since he became disenchanted but later admits he was wrong.
Gotta admit that was the most random reaction … if you can at least do something the audience may unconsciously understand his reaction would help it, even with a music cue or a reaction moment like you suggested. Almost like what Kylo did in TFA with that one officer who had to deliver the “bad news” to Kylo.
Here’s my next pass for Kylo on Coruscant, planning on adding a few First Order flags here and there.
https://vimeo.com/403617681
That’s pretty good and a neat concept. I understand this is only a rough draft, but what’s up with the ships in the background moving in such a “choppy” speed? Is it something with the source?
very nice skenera, that will be very helpful to work with! Awesome job!
I like the idea of adding, or hinting, or whatever about the Dyad thing in TFA since it is later spelled out in TROS. I think it would also satisfy people to understand how she “powered up” so quickly in the movies. Much better explanation then JJ’s response in TFA that she “downloaded” all of Kylo
s training.
I am fine with rare abilities or rare things in Jedi, that’s fine. Since Palps himself said it’s such a rare thing which explains why we wouldn’t have seen it in the previous trilogies. A-Ok with that!
It would be better than what the TFA was alluding to of "Light and Dark Side users balance out.
Since, well, it invalidates the previous two trilogies. If there is supposed to be a so called “balance” of Dark and Light side users … then the Rule of Two is invalid if there were 1000s of Jedi before.
And yes, one can say “The total power of Dark and Light, not the number of users” but the movie did NOT imply that at all. It was really portrayed as an individual/person thing as shown in the movie.
I would really love the hint, or even mention of it in the first movie. Just something since it will be explained at the end.
