Awesome news, Andrea! Can't wait to see the final result.
Awesome news, Andrea! Can't wait to see the final result.
About the colors on the DVD, they look quite the same as the 35mm colors.
I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM_jePSCRVQ
Maybe a little bit more blueish with stronger contrast.
I guess you're right. I'm still gonna preserve this audio track anyway ;)

I have all the BD soundtracks, and it seems that audio was the same on DVD and BD, I could think the VHS should be the same, apart the fact that it is only stereo, Dolby Surround encoded, while the BD soundtracks are 5.1 discrete surround... so I think this time I'll use the untouched BD tracks.
Plus, the VHS audio is uncompressed which is important to preserve the French soundtrack since the 5.1 audio on the Blu-ray is not even DTS encoded. I don't know about the Italian audio though.
Hey Andrea! I definitely love this project. It may be useless but I can provide the original French stereo mix if you're interested. I've ordered a VHS which should be here really soon. You should also do that with the Italian audio it could be a good idea.
I would like to provide the LD analog and AC3 audio tracks from the Laserdisc but unfortunately, this particular LD is really hard to find and very expensive.
About those ugly artefacts issues, you can try to upscale the DVD and use it to replace the scenes with artefacts. Well, I'm pretty sure you already thought about that. I haven't read all the posts on both topics.
The ending scene of the Gold/Pyramid French edition also looks pretty good to me.
Here's the scene uploaded to Vimeo, no color corrections, just a raw LD capture: https://vimeo.com/75260761

I'm sorry if this has been asked already...
Does anyone have a bit-perfect rip of the 2.0 PCM track from each of the BttF LDs?
Yes I do, they are synced with the HDTV versions.
Yes, indeed! I've synced the LD track with the Canal+ version. You can PM me ;)

Yeah, maybe I overreacted, too. But all Iwanted was a simple "yes" or "no" answer, not a lecture in quality. Or grammar.
And I respect Harmy's work, as well as everyone elses to preserve the movies we love.
If I knew how to do it myself, or had the time to learn it, I wouldn't have asked in the fist place.
Alright, no problem then. I don't think you are a tool and I do apologize.
I know there is an HDTV 1080p version of ANH on our favourite Russian tracker. It's about 30GB so I guess the bitrate is quite enough to work on the color grading. Maybe someone here could give it a try.
Yeah sorry, I think I was overreacting right here. I should say: don't pay attention to my stupid comment, I was angry for no reason and I missed the important point of the topic. Sorry again.

I'm, sorry, I don't, read minds, I'll be, more careful, next time.
In response to your ever increasingly cryptic needs: the Bluray. That's it.
Don't pay attention, this dude is probably a tool. You show him the proof that there is absolutely NO differences between 720p and 1080p for this release and he still can't take this obvious fact, plus he's acting like an arrogant and doesn't show any respect for Harmy's incredible work.
Finally, sorry but no, there is no color corrected version of SW on this website, if you really "need" a 1080p version then do it yourself or try to upscale the Harmy version but like I've said, it's useless.
Alright then, good to know! From what I've seen, this beauty deserves a preservation.
I'm still wondering if the other reels are as good looking. Are they?
Damn! It looks really good. The colors, the grain, the details... I'm amazed! Thank for sharing it with us, poita.
Is that a French Derann print? Are you planning to capture the whole film?
Hey, Andrea! As always, I can provide the French Lossless audio track from my laserdisc if you are interested ;)
Any news? Still searching for BTTF 2 & 3 Canal+ rips.
By the way, i've ripped all the stereo audio tracks from my BTTF NTSC laserdiscs and they are now synced with the DXVA HDTV versions. If you are interested you know what you have to do.
It's definitely not a downmix, you can clearly hear some sounds in the mono mix which are not in the stereo mix.
For example, when Luke is playing with his Skyhopper wingtip then suddenly puts it on the table next to him and says: "C'est vraiment pas juste. Tous mes copains sont déjà pilotes, moi je suis prisonnier ici!" You can hear the sound of the wingtip hitting the table in the mono mix but not in the stereo mix.
I've checked a lot of different scenes, these are two different mixes.
Awesome!!
Is there any audio output on the projector? Maybe you could record the audio since it's the original mono mix it would be interesting to preserve it.
Yes indeed! I finally have it :) Thanks a lot!
Sorry I didn't know about that. Thank you, sir!
I'm trying to download this preservation, can somebody please seed? There's absolutely no seeder right now... Please guys :)
I can't download anything from MySpleen unfortunately... my ratio is kinda weird, it's stuck at 0.993. I've downloaded a 2.10GB file and uploaded 2.08GB. I can't upload more because nobody is interested in this file anymore.
And now, each time I try to download a file it doesn't start.
Thank you marvins for uploading the files elsewhere, I really do appreciate that! :) Good luck!

Could new people mention how they heard about the project/forum?
I did it the old fashion way.
My daughter is growing faste, and I don't own a VHS anymore... I want to show her the real deal in a couple of years.
So I googled "starwars original version" and voilà
v2.1 is a bitch to get my hands on tho...
Since we there, is the french soundtrack included on v2.1 or is that only on v2.0 ? And is there any (easy) way to mix the french soundtrack with v2.1 (if I ever get my hands on it)
The French audio is unfortunately not included in the V2.1 because it's a lighter AVCHD version, foreign languages are included in the MKV versions which are a lot heavier (V2.0 for example) so you'll have to wait for the V2.5 MKV to have the French audio included.
You can also use MKVtoolnix to mux the V2.1 AVCHD file with the French audio track so you'll have what you are looking for.
By the way, I have the French audio in higher quality if you want, just send me a PM and i'll be able to explain you how MKVtoolnix works if you're not familiar with file muxing ;)

If there is interest in something similar for the audio side of things, I'll see what I can come up with.
