Yeah Tros is really the cornerstone of all this, although its far from perfect, DOTF builds pretty nicely on the arcs set up in TLJ, making TLJ and by extension TFA more impactful.

Although in my view it was a weak arc, Rose fit the bill to nudge him in that direction. I just wish they went in a different direction. Leaning into Finn’s ties to the First Order and Poe’s possible fanaticism to the resistance(think Cassian Andor)

Absolutely, there was so much potential for those two in the last Jedi, pity RJ thought otherwise. Apparently he started writing the script with them off on an adventure together but then replaced Poe with Rose when he thought there was no potential for tension between them, he thought that they got along “too” well.

I whish there was more conflict between the two, they tried a little with the “your no Leia” scene but we needed more, TLJ should have had the two them go out on an adventure while being in conflict , perhaps Poe hates the stormtroopers and is eager to kill them, perhaps he seeks revenge for something they did to him or his parents, Finn on the other hand would try to help them, seeing the light in his former comrades, Poe opposes and so you have a back and forth tension throughout the film leading to a resolution that progresses their characters.

I know why you would want that (for RotJ) but it would destroy my suspension of disbelief to think that right next door to the galactic capital is an untouched forest world inhabited by primitive natives.

I think it would make it all the more interesting, “the sanctuary moon of Coruscant” a forbidden sacred forest that no one dares to enter. Really plays up the ruthlessness of the Ewoks.

JEDIT: It could also play into the ying/yang symmetry of star wars. Dark/LIGHT, Nature/Technology which would really drive home the theme of nature winning the day in ROTJ.

Yeah it’s a pipe dream but didn’t someone rotoscope Jar jar outta TPM? Maybe it could be done with Finn. Keep the dynamic between Rey and Poe.

I’ve been thinking about ways to improve Finns arch, my conclusion is this: kill him off at the battle of crait, there’s nothing left for him to do, he just follows around and screams peoples names in TROS. Give him impact to the trilogy, if he’s not going to inspire the stormtroopers than he might as well inspire the resistance.

Balance could refer to Yung’s concept of integrating the shadow, being in control of your dark side instead of vice-versa, basically using it for good.

It’s a very ambitious endeavour, and if executed well it could be the perfect ending.

Sounds great but how are you planning to achieve that?

What do you guys think of adding more people to the ending shot, R2 and 3PO as well as the force ghosts looking at the sunset(rise) with Rey.

I daydream of a Disney + Extended Edition Series where they release assembly cuts of all the star wars films.

That’s a very interesting thread, huge chunks of the film were cut as late as November! I pray that somehow it gets out there. I saw that someone was rescoring the original tracks but I think they were taken down? Has anyone access to them?

The pacing and sound are fantastic, could do away with that landing shot though.
Also very clever restructuring of the scene, I think that if we wanted to stick to tradition with the sunset ending, Rey’s ignited saber could be inserted into the scene , come to think of it, It would be a meaningfull call back to the broom boy scene from TLJ.

But why post it then? besides it looks great.

Having the whole scene coloured green could be a little too campy, maybe keep the green exclusively for the smoke behind Palpatine.

I think it might be better to give the interior of the temple a different colour than the exterior, maybe sandy red on the outside, black and grey inside.
