Pacing wise I don’t think including the whole fight would work, I’m thinking more colour corrected flashes of Vader from the fan film saying Ben and other relevent dialogue like “come to me” etc when he touches the wayfinder. Could even get a shot of Kylo’s saber decapitating him in there.

Maybe even similar to Harry Potter walking back through Hogwarts after the big battle.

Maybe change the colour correcting to Red, Mustafar.

I doubt it but maybe there’s a way to splice the Mustafar raid with the Kylo v. Vader fan film to make it seem like while he’s fighting that giant group he’s actually just envisioning taking down Vader?

Maybe Vader is a projection of the Wayfinder? When Ren defeats him, he opens the casket and removes it?

There’s a post-credit scene in the fan film where Kylo is about to remove his helmet, so that would help with maintaining continuity.

I like where this is going.

I think reworking the dialogue between Ren and Palpatine at the start would really improve on the plot, the characters and their motivations. I tried reconstructing the dialogue into its original form in the script and I think its very doable with what we have.

-I have died before, the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural
-What are you?
-More than a clone, less than a man !
-What could you give me ?
-Everything… A new Empire,
The might of the final Order will soon be ready. I’m too weak and soon I will die…the fleet will be yours if you do as I ask…Bring the girl! Take the thrown! and become what your grand father Vader could not. You will rule the galaxy together as Emperor and Empress, A dyad in the force, a dyad of the dark side
-Who is she?
-Not who you think she is…

When Rey hands Luke the saber in TLJ it would be neet to hear voices of the massacres of order 66,children’s screams, Anakins “I hate you!”. It would justify it on an emotional level and would add to Luke’s second lesson about the fall of the once mighty Jedi Order.
Here’s an example that portrays this, although a more comedic version.

Well it was a different time when they had less resources but they worked with what they had, I mean for a 300 million dollar picture made in 2019 they could have at least put more effort into this, especially for a series known for its climactic battles.

I get what you’re trying to say but the straight line you’re trying to draw from “having resources” to “making what you wanted to make” is almost never that straight. it’s a thing I see brought up in game reviews a lot too, the idea that misfiring creatively isn’t just that - a creative misfire - it’s evidence of “laziness” or “lack of effort”

Sometimes bad movies are bad due to lack of effort. But for as much as I dislike The Rise of Skywalker, and I very much dislike it - the crew on that movie weren’t being lazy at any point. That documentary on the blu-ray is nothing but people working as hard as they can, as fast as they can, to make the best movie they can.

They did not make that movie, unfortunately. They made a bad one. But most bad movies are made by well-intentioned people whose shortcomings on that project have nothing to do with their lack of effort. I don’t think them going through that footage and reworking it in THAT way to solve a problem they didn’t know they had until it was staring them in the face is a sign of laziness at all. It reads to me as the opposite.

Yeah the production crew definitely worked their ass’ off on this one, can’t say the same for the editors though.

I have an idea for a more saga-conclusive ending. I think the Jedi from throughout the saga should return and stand with Rey to beat Palpatine. I think it could work like this:

After Palpatine says, “I will kill you” (or whatever) insert Luke’s “No” from TLJ, and then Luke in force ghost forms arrives standing beside Rey. This would be accomplished by masking a shot of him from a prior film, and then coloring it blue. It should be video, so it looks realistic, but possibly intentionally blurred so the mouths don’t have to match up to the dialogue. He then says, “A thousand generations of Jedi live in you.”

Yoda then arrives, with the force theme blasting. Next is Leia. Then Qui-Gon. Then Obi-Wan, possibly followed by an “hello there” if it isn’t too bathos. Then Mace Windu.

Maybe move the shot of Ben climbing back up here, if possible, so he’s included too. Finally, Anakin Skywalker arrives in force ghost form. Luke says, "No one’s ever really gone. Anakin says, “Master” (from throughout the PT) in a mocking tone to Palpatine, Palpatine responds with “no, no, no” (right before force lightning in ROTS).

And only THEN does Rey bring the second saber and finish off Palpatine, with the help of all the Jedi wronged by this evil Sith.

Next, for Ben’s sacrifice. I think the Jedi Force Ghosts should “save” Ben by transferring their remaining life forces. This would be done by showing the individual Jedi Ghosts disappearing right after Ben’s supposed death, and then reversing the shot so Ben comes back to life. You can then show Ben either on Acho-To or with Rey, with a reasonable explanation as to how they were able to both survive.

something like this?

I like the execution of Ben surviving in this version, but what would happen next?

Different editor here, but the two options could be

-End the movie almost as soon as the kiss happens

-Edit it so kylo is on Tatoonie with Rey as she buries the lightsabers, using footage of him from the desert earlier.

I chose the former for my try-out edits

That worked surprisingly well, you could save the scenes with Ben and Rey till after the celebration, making it the final scene.
