They probably thought that as long as he was not referred to as “Darth” then the sith were not really back, leaving the prophecy intact, so the sith would only really return when the ritual succeeded.
Okay that was an interesting watch. I’ll start with what might need some adjustments:
The crawl needs some work, it’s too long with too much exposition, keep it short but to the point. I didn’t get the deal with Rey magically appearing on Exogol, was it a vison? teleportation? Also you cut Chewie’s death yet it was still referred to throughout, perhaps referring to him being captured would be a better option.
Otherwise there are some very good ideas in this edit. I really like that you completely got rid of the Passana speeder chase, making it look like they ran into a cave. I just think that implication needs to be made clearer. My favourite thing about this is how you switched Rey’s emotional reaction to Chewie’s death to her reacting to Kylo Ren crashing the Tie Fighter, pity you killed him off on the Deathstar because otherwise it was a nice Reylo setup. I also liked that you cut Rey riding the waves on Kef-Bir, adding a sense of mystery as to where she disappeared.
Some very novel ideas here, just needs a little tuning up 😉

Problem is that he wears the cape during the battle, it’s not like he’d put it on before engaging the enemy.
I really liked the concept art of Rey sitting on top of the hut staring into the horizon, felt like a very Rey thing to do.
Sadly as good as this is I don’t think it could work within the massacre scene since Kylo wears a cape in that.
It might work in a vision though.
Even the First Order put’s the red line at misogyny. 😉

Judging from the abundance of concept art of them with Kylo in the battle, I’d bet they were part of the scene, just on the cutting room floor.
Reading through this thread and looking over the results of the TROS poll got me thinking about the idea of having Rey be responsible for her parents death. I know that keeping Rey as Palps granddaughter is a less popular option than Rey Nobody, but if an editor were to have Rey kill her parents I think the Rey Palpatine angle works.
This way we keep Rey’s parents as good people who were doing all they could to protect their daughter, and in a fit of uncontrolled childhood rage, she causes their death. When she accepts the truth of this it would serve to compound the feelings of inner conflict and fear she has regarding her own power

I was experimenting with it last night. I am working with Luke building his lightsaber in a deleted scene of ROTJ, and Rey lifting the lightsaber in the hut from the end of The Last Jedi BTS reel from D23 2017, to create a scene of Rey constructing her lightsaber.

Okay so I’m pretty new at this After Effects thing but I edited a scene for Mustafar from Rogue One. The very beginning of the scene still has a portion from where I removed the ship, but I didn’t know how much to cut (some editors like to play around with footage or maybe it could be taken away with a wipe or something). It’s only a couple of seconds but maybe it could be useful.

For the alternate “Rey skywalker” scene, is there a 4k version of the documentary out there? It’s a zoomed in shot so I’m not sure if it’s good enough quality wise.

Yeah good idea. Another alternative would be to separate Mustafar and the location of the opening massacre into different planets. That way you could imply that Vader’s castle is now a lair for Kylo and his knights. You could have an establishing shot of Vader’s castle before reconstructing the helmet.
Anyway are so many ways to go about this, and everything else in the film.
I’m split on the subject, because I think that if we had the Eye of Webbish Bog scene and a solid establishing shot, then yes, I’d want it to be there, because we’d have more visible Sith cult shit happening on Mustafar. But, as it stands, it feels like the better place is Exegol, where we’ve got actual Sith cultists.
Hmm yeah I see what you mean, it’s probably cleaner to cut directly to the broken pieces after Palpatine and Kylo’s convo, implying that he’s still on Exogol.
Yeah Coruscant is a must have, I like the idea of kylo rebuilding the helmet in Vader’s castle. Perhaps the red material he uses to fuse the helmet is from one of the lava rivers.

pw: faneditI’m glad there was support around Option A, and I can make that available along with any other versions people want, but I think I agree with DominicCobb and others’ feedback that the Falcon was a bit small and receded too quickly. So for this version, I made the Falcon bigger, recede slower, and matched as best I could snooker’s motion in the back half of Option B. I also increased the length of the lightspeed streak so its more prominent.
This is better over all. One thing I prefer in A though is the way it almost faces the suns when taking to Hyperspace.
I think it’s meant to be “The World Between Worlds” from star wars rebels.
I’m kinda warming up to the silent ending (hats off to Chase Adams), it really does feel appropriate.

How close are you to finishing your edit?
At the moment I’m working out the structure of the plot. I’m really still in the brainstorming phase, figuring out the right structure for the first act, which really is the trickiest part of the film. I’m experimenting with different ideas
though.
