What I would do for a LOTR style Extended edition of the Sequels.
What I would do for a LOTR style Extended edition of the Sequels.
Came across this old reddit post that compares the leaked TFA call sheet with the theatrical film.
The early cut was basically a different film: longer, less derivative, juicier and more fleshed out.

I’m starting to see a pattern here, JJ.
What do you think of changing the line “hunt for the scavenger” to “hunt for the Wayfinder”, or maybe cut at “prepare to crush any worlds that defy us”? I think it just follows better continuity wise.
If you’re going to have Kylo say that his knights will come along in the hunt it would be cool to have them standing behind Kylo in that wide shot after the massacre. Maybe the shot of them from the force-vision in TFA could be used?
Ben mystically impregnates Rey as he heals her with his hand on her stomach.
I definitely see this happening down the line. Disney will want to capitalise on the Skywalker name eventually.
It will be justified like this: “Ben’s life-force entered Rey, midichlorians go burrr, creates new life.”
A dyad in the force, two that are one…
I like the idea of her saber being ignited when stares at the sunset.

I find some of things here to be useful to keep in mind when editing.
I get ya, can’t really go wrong either way!
The track attached to the dialogue does fit the surrounding music, I just don’t think it has enough punch for THE reveal.
If you want to see how the above track plays, I used it in one of my Palpatine mockups here: https://vimeo.com/411776713 (0:57)
Personally I think it adds more tension and anticipation to the scene.
I think this works pretty well! Good idea, RogueLeader!
For Palpatine’s reveal I think it would be better to isolate the middle channel for the spirit passing dialogue and add a track that has some dramatic build-up.
I think the end of this track is very appropriate:

Nicely done! That really stood out like a sore thumb in the original. Very odd choice by the editors.
Would love to record myself saying “This is the Mandalorian fleet, reporting in”
And maybe a “for Mandalore!”Fixed that for you. 😉
I shall grace your message board with a somewhat decent impression!
Would love to hear “This is the Mandalorian fleet, reporting in”
And maybe a “for Mandalore!”
Could get the voices from one of the Kotor games.
That translates really well!
I think the line “as all the Sith live in ME” should be pulled back just a tad so that the word “Me” syncs to when his mouth opens.
“The First Order was just the beginning… I will give you so much more.”
“You’ll Die first.”
“I have died before… Kill me, and my spirit will pass into you as all the Sith live in ME(face reveal).”
Nice.
There could still be a place to insert the line “More than a clone less than a man.”
Maybe over the shot of Palps’ test tube Clones or after Kylo ignites the saber to his face.
Here’s a little switch around I was thinking of. What if for a Ben lives edit we save Leia’s intervention and death for when Ben is about to resurrect Rey, it would make for a more meaningful send off for Leia as well as a nice way of keeping Ben alive.
For the Death star scene you could have a combination of Luke, Leia and Han appearing before Kylo with a v.o of “come home”.
Maybe something like RogueLeaders mockup of a faded Leia.
Maybe Palpatine’s plan was to have Vader meet his clone on Exogol had Luke killed him on DS2.
Would be interesting to have Vader know that Palpatine won’t die on the death star, it would certainly explain Vader’s change of tune from ESB where he planned on overthrowing him to ROTJ where he’s completely submissive to his rule.
I could imagine an alternate scenario where after Luke strikes down the Emperor, Vader tells him that he is still alive on Exogol and that they must find a way to destroy him once and for all.
A good question for another time
Same thing could be said though about Kylo finding the wayfinder out in the open on Mustafar. I’m sure Luke would have also searched his father’s fortress before hand.
I guess it’s a matter of picking your poison.
You guys are in for a treat😉
In fairness to KK, she tried her best to push TFA to 2016, adding a year which would have allowed for a more thought out trilogy.
Disney was eager to make back their 4 billion dollar investment so they demanded a late 2015 release.
Ultimately it was Disney’s greed that was the downfall of this trilogy.
wOmEN!!
Love the new close up
I suppose that in a broad meta sense, it’s a commentary on war, it’s orchestration and cyclical nature.
Now, if we could get back on the topic of thread…
Right, so as was saying, that’s why chinchillas are actually a communist conspiracy.
Hmm yeah I see how that would make sense, Stalin could have been Jabba in disguise for all I know.
Brilliant idea.
I could say my thoughts on Ruin Johnsons film but Id probably get banned with all of the cursing, insults & name calling Id just end up making toward Ruin Johnson so I’ll hold myself back. The Crap Jedi is the Batman v Superman of Star Wars. The less I say about that stupid shit the better
Cant slam JJA with out giving Ruin Johnson his fair share of criticism of what he did. Both men are at fault equally with what happened
That kind of rhetoric isn’t really welcome here. If you want to make that kind of argument you’ll have to be more nuanced than that.
