Except the area is rubble at this point and there’s no ships above getting zapped, so the background looks pretty different if you move this scene up. I don’t disagree this is a cool idea though. May just look out of place without some additional vfx.

I think kewlfish did a nice job with that aspect, at least for a mockup. You’re right though, the background would have to be blurred a little and the lighting would have to match Palpatine’s Lightning.

Yeah, I still really like this concept. In addition to adding lightning to the background when Rey is looking down at Ben, I have just a few suggestions that I think would make the idea work even better.

1. When Ben picks up Rey’s body, he briefly looks off to the left. Perhaps when that happens, slip in a shot of Palps shocking the fleet, so it’s more apparent that he’s completely distracted.
2. We can’t cut out “Rey, the Force will be with you. Always.” which kewlfish’s concept does. Instead, keep that dialogue in (audio only), and have Leia’s “Always” synced up with when Rey’s hand moves and she grabs Ben’s.
3. I don’t think it’s necessary to keep the POV in space for the entire duration of the voices. Instead, just cut back and forth between space, Rey’s eyes, and reuse the shot of Ben holding her.

Also, not exactly a suggestion, but kewlfish’s concept has the unfortunate side effect of cutting out some of the other Jedi voices. So if there were a way to preserve those, I think the idea would work flawlessly.

I think the deleted scene could still be salvaged. All that needs to be worked on is the background, which could be added in from other scenes.

You know, you could be right. The grass is always greener on the other side but I’ll wait till I see his Jurassic Word 3 to pass my verdict on him as a film-maker.

And while they’re at it they should bring back Trevorrow and Derek Connolly to write and direct.
They deserve a chance.

I know this might be off topic but I really want a sequel series/new trilogy that continues after TROS with Finn causing rebellions in the FO ranks, Poe becoming the new republic general and Rey rebuilding a new Jedi order.

RJ is good with themes and character archs, basically the deep stuff.

JJ is good with action setpieces and humour, basically the fun stuff.

I think a mix of both is what this film needed.

Would have been interesting to see JJ and Rian take up the script for episode 9, with one of them taking the director’s chair.

That might work. I recently watched an edit that moves Palpatine’s reveal to the end of act 1, and while the cutaway kind of helps the “Scavenger Hunt” plot feel less hectic, it makes seeing Palpatine less shocking because you’ve had more time to settle into the rest of the story.

Bruh, the music, I got goosebumps.

Again, the set up of Luke urging his sister to let go and her and joining the force at the right moment was in the original cut. According to Jedi Paxis and the novelisation Luke and Leia had conversations leading up to her sacrifice that consisted of Luke telling Leia that her time has come with Leia replying that she is still not ready.

Too many characters have visited it in the past. If you make this change, the entire plot and chain of mcguffins to be able to travel there doesn’t work. You’d have to make a lot of changes as to why they can’t just go to Korriban/Moraband.

The more I hear about your edit the more I am intrigued.

Maybe the galaxy thinks he is dead but I think the ideal would be to have him in self exile. A batman like figure that appears and disappears out of nowhere, helping out around the galaxy as a form of penance. A symbol.

Carry’s death should have made Luke’s role central to the story.
For the life of me I don’t get why they didn’t have him at least train Rey between TLJ and TROS and throughout TROS. Even Trevorrow’s script which was written before Carry’s death gave Luke a central role, haunting Kylo Ren while training Rey and communing with Leia.

Yeah I see how you would get the impression that none of it was earned. The idea itself of Rey taking the name and inheritaing the legacy of our heroes could have been compelling, had her relationship with the legacy characters been fleshed out.

give Han Solo full redemption by being the one who kills Kylo.

Does this mean that Han will call out to Ben instead of Leia?
