I think a great way to start an ST 3-1 would be to have Luke’s failure at his training temple be the prelude of the film. It sets up the story nicely, and puts us right into the heart of the drama.

For the alternate Skywalker line take, does anyone have the 4k version of the TROS documentary? It’s just that the shot is really zoomed in and 1080p just won’t cut it.
To solve the problem of Ochi’s name, you could have Rey say his name while she puts her hand on the page with the wayfinder at the start of the film. That way, when she sees Ochi’s ship she instantly rememberes what Luke wrote in the Jedi texts. Or she can mention Ochi of Bestoon when she talks to Poe about following Luke’s trail in the forbidden desert of passana.
Pacing wise, it’s gold.
I’d go for cutting that entire scene. It’s just so… Cringe.
Also having Lando show up for the first time when he appears to Poe is more dramatically affective.

I want to remind some neat idea of simple restructuring to make beggining of the film feel smoother and calmer. We can have Rey training scene following the Senate and Kylo conversation when they mention her, then after Falcon is mentioned we witnes this mission. This way, I think, movie flows more natural and has logical starting point, as in ANH where we follow droids to learn another pieces of a story.
It should also give more freedom to opening crawl cos both Rey and Falcon mission will be mentioned in the movie right before we see them. It should work regardless of shortening Falcon scene, restructuring Kylo vision, Palpatine lines or finding a wayfinder.
There are some rough concepts of tranzitions that I made some time ago testing some awsome ideas from this forum.

Oh yeah I remember reading that a while ago, seems like Ben’s redemption became a mandate? Also, changing the names of Planet’s like Coruscant while maintaining the same austhetic kinda reeks of studio meddling.
They really tried to pretend the prequels didn’t exist.
Supposedly, the only major change in later drafts is that Leia dies earlier and that
Snoke but WorseTor Valum is replaced by a holocron, though obviously that’s hard to confirm without the scripts.Another major change is that the fight at the end is a 3-way fight between Kylo, Rey, and this Knight of Ren girl called Sollony, who’s the new Phasma, basically, and is there at the end so Kylo isn’t the final enemy.

JJ’s complete blackout silence on the film is quite odd, I wonder what he feels about releasing an extended cut of the film. I hope it’s a question that get’s asked in future interviews and fan interactions.
Just the prospect of a sequel trilogy brought so much to the imagination.
In the future, with more media, it may be possible to heavily edit TLJ and Rise into this film, but that would take an incredible level of storywriting skill.
I’ll be keeping my eyes on any old Republic film/trilogy or series that may come out in the near future.

At the the announcement of the Lucasfilm buy-out I had my hopes up for a villian akin to the Yuzhon Vohng, an outer galaxy threat. An enemy that threatened the force itself.

Yeah, this really should have been a two-parter. Part I ends with Palpatine rejuvinated with the Sith Fleet unleashed and Part II spans a galaxy wide WAR.
2/3 year time jump. The Capital Has been taken by the Sith.
Rey and now Jedi Knight Ben Solo Rebuild the Jedi Order. Finn, Poe and Rose go behind enemy-lines, Storm-Trooper Revolution, Retaking The Capital, All that Jazz.
Ending on a Climactic Duel between the Jedi and the Sith at the former Jedi Temple (now Sith- Eternal Base).
Throw in a young Palpatine clone and you’re set for a duel that will end all duels.
I gotta say, Palpatine jumping off his throne and stabbing Rey with his saber is a hilarious yet fitting visual.

If we’re to have Ben Solo die, I think the best way to go about it would be to have him heal Rey and die while Palpatine is busy turning the fleet into a BBQ. We have the force ghosts appear like normal but when Rey is about to ignite the second lightsaber, Ben Solo’s force ghost appears with his hand reached out just like the rest, ending Sidious with a final blow.
Later he would appear with Luke, Leia ( and maybe Han’s) ghosts on Tatooine.
A more meaningful death and redemption!
Except the area is rubble at this point and there’s no ships above getting zapped, so the background looks pretty different if you move this scene up. I don’t disagree this is a cool idea though. May just look out of place without some additional vfx.
I think kewlfish did a nice job with that aspect, at least for a mockup. You’re right though, the background would have to be blurred a little and the lighting would have to match Palpatine’s Lightning.

Yeah, I still really like this concept. In addition to adding lightning to the background when Rey is looking down at Ben, I have just a few suggestions that I think would make the idea work even better.
- When Ben picks up Rey’s body, he briefly looks off to the left. Perhaps when that happens, slip in a shot of Palps shocking the fleet, so it’s more apparent that he’s completely distracted.
- We can’t cut out “Rey, the Force will be with you. Always.” which kewlfish’s concept does. Instead, keep that dialogue in (audio only), and have Leia’s “Always” synced up with when Rey’s hand moves and she grabs Ben’s.
- I don’t think it’s necessary to keep the POV in space for the entire duration of the voices. Instead, just cut back and forth between space, Rey’s eyes, and reuse the shot of Ben holding her.
Also, not exactly a suggestion, but kewlfish’s concept has the unfortunate side effect of cutting out some of the other Jedi voices. So if there were a way to preserve those, I think the idea would work flawlessly.

I think the deleted scene could still be salvaged. All that needs to be worked on is the background, which could be added in from other scenes.
You know, you could be right. The grass is always greener on the other side but I’ll wait till I see his Jurassic Word 3 to pass my verdict on him as a film-maker.
And while they’re at it they should bring back Trevorrow and Derek Connolly to write and direct.
They deserve a chance.
I know this might be off topic but I really want a sequel series/new trilogy that continues after TROS with Finn causing rebellions in the FO ranks, Poe becoming the new republic general and Rey rebuilding a new Jedi order.
