Yeah the first time I read 'French Stewart' in the credits of the film 'Stargate' I was like "Wha-wha-WHA???" Even more amusing, he plays one of the *tough* a-hole soldiers who go alongwith Kurt Russell. Funny stuff in hindsight.

Yeah it was the episodes, sans commercials, advertised as 'the Young Indy Movies' or somesuch. I agree they were well done and occasionally interesting, but overall somewhat boring. I think the key points that would make a Star Wars TV series work, at the very least, would be not to pander to merchandising or worry about syndication formatting (IE obvious commercial breaks) but to make something that could easily flow as stand-alone mini movies themselves. Perhaps something like HBO or Showtime could be the place for them (I know, I know... but what about us who don't have those pay networks... cuz I don't) as I think those networks have a higher standard of quality than most any other (IE USA or Sci-Fi).

Also, it would be great if some decent Sc-Fi authors could be brought aboard like was done with the original Star Trek series.

Palpatine corrupts ANOTHER innocent!!! MMwwhwhahahahaaaa... THAT'S how the Jedi were eliminated: First the clone troops hid their lightsabers and THEN, after buying Corn Pops to get replacements (after all, everyone knows that where sabers come from) they get stiffed and don't find them in their boxes. Pops indeed....

LOL, no problem. I love that strip! Don't forget 'Lord of the Rings' and video games... face it- he's a geek just like rest of us!

(please note- I use the term 'geek' as a term of endearment. I myself am a geek, tried-and-true. If you are a side-show performer who eats various objects live or otherwise please do not take offense in my usage of the word)

Yeah. He lost it a bit when he tried to tie together the early stuff, but redeemed himself with Nightworld. I would immediately read 'The Keep' (my favorite by far and it'll make you dream of a new version of the film! lol) and then probably 'The Touch'. Either way... 'The Keep'... vampires, nazis, swords and eternal heros- da stuff dreams are made of!

Help!! Looking for Hi-Res OT posters
Time
The concept is cool but the actual product looks to me a little strange. Maybe if they were illuminated by black light and had disco balls around them or something.

I suppose $79 isn't bad, but just imagine how many repro posters you could have hanging around your movie room for that that price.

And for all the big kids out there- who else had the same 3D Darth Vader poster that I did as a kid- one that you put together yourself (or with mom's help) from cut-out paper pieces? Anyone?

Hmmm.

I guess that's one thing that bugs me, as an adult, about the direction the fandom has taken and more importantly the direction George Lucas has taken (judgment reserved for EPIII for now):

When I was a kid, the OT was a fun series of movies targeted at adults (for the most part). As kids, we wanted to be a part of that world and bought the toys to play with.

With the PT, the movies (by GL's own admission at various times) is targeted towards kids, and yet the only people I've seen buying the merchandise are adults who are either collectors or just nostalgic peope who loved SW as kids. The only kids that seem interested in the toys, etc (that I've seen at least) are the children of people like us who kinda push them into it.

Just some random thoughts for a Monday morning.

Well, the set is now complete, but I need someone to please suggest somewhere to upload it. The Fill *.zip is 65MB, and I don't think my web server can take it.

Other than posting to ab.starwars, I'm not sure. If you have a Yahoo acct you can use Yahoo' Briefcase to upload and share files with friends, but the free accpount limit is 30mb. Maybe if you broke it into parts? I be happy to share my 30mbs as it is currently empty. I'm sure someone else will come up with another suggestion too though.

This has been bugging me more and more. Partly because Yoda (at least OT Yoda) is one of my favorite characters in the series and partly because of what you said- by Lucas framing the story like this he makes a delusional joke of the whole Jedi order. Obi-Wan can very slightly be excused (stupid youth and all that) but that lessens the wisdom of *his* character.

I haven't read the whole graphic novel yet and probably won't listen to the audiobook until after the film comes out, but I pray (but don't expect) that the scene won't make the final cut. As well I hope for the continuation of the elimination of any reference to Jedi STDS or whatever the hell George was thinking with the mitichlorians (sp? who cares!). Perhaps THAT is what should have wiped out the Jedi... Anakin could have slept his way through all the Jedi like a good party boy and the Palpatine would have been the one running the only Coruscant free clinic.

BTW, that's how I had hoped Capt. Kirk would have kicked off- green alien chick STD...

Also; can someone direct me to where I might learn how to edit the vobs/ifos/whatevers so that I can make my EditDroid ESB show the menu before playing the movie. I think a thread exists somewhere (though it might've been another board...).

Yeah, I know feelings are mixed on whether people like menus first or discs that jump into the film... I'm a menu guy myself and was thinking the same thing about the EditDroid ESB.

Info Wanted: Yet another 'Which Version is this?' question... sorry!

OK Scooby-gang…

I’ve combed posts looking for menu shots of the known OT versions but didn’t see this one:

A bit back I found all three OT films with these style menus on ab.dvd. I managed to grab ANH and ESB but not Jedi. Anywho… what do I have here? They are letterboxed versions. Anyone…? Anyone…? Bueller…? Bueller…?

Preview of the new "Angrysun" Collection DVD Covers...
Time
I had the idea a bit back... BUT... couldn't find a hi-rez Jedi poster. I'd be happy to work it up again if anyone can get me a hi-rez scan of that Jedi poster- Don't worry about text or anything cuz I can take care of that. Just PM me and let me know and I'll give ya email address.

On that note, I love playing with Photoshop but unless a *really* *REALLY* sweet idea for a DVD cover comes to my mind, I may just do some graphics and make them available to people to use in templates that already exist. That is, if anyone is ever interested... lol

UPDATE: I just saw the link to a higher res one over in the 'hi-res poster art' thread! Go figure, right? But if anyone has a bigger one still...

Kung Fu Hustle
Time
I have to agree with ricarleite-

I recently watched both 'Kung Fu Hustle' and 'Ong Bak'. 'Hustle' *is* fun to watch but the effects do take away from the heart of the story (hear that, Lucas?). I will say that I sensed some good old 'studio vs creator' tension with 'Hustle'; I can just hear the studio saying "More Matrix... More effects" and Chow thinking "More Looney Tunes... more sillyness... more heart". Trouble is, whenever that occurs the final product always suffers.

'Ong Bak' on the other hand, though weak plot-wise (are are many classic but fun films), I found to be pure bliss to watch. Here again are those days ricar speaks of when the action of the martial arts star is real and creative; action that doesn't rely on editors to create but instead comes from elaborate and difficult set-ups and from actors who display incredible athletic skills.

Then again not every film a creator puts forward is going to be better than the last, nor should it in my opinion. We love filmmakers who have a better than average track record and we should give them credit for trying. It is certainly not an easy industry to work in, either in the USA or elsewhere.

Episode III novel and comic leaked (Spoilers within)

buh...buh...BUT....

Poor Yoda. Instead of becoming Qui-Gonn's bitch, it should have occured to him that Qui-Gonn caused most of the trouble for the entire story... nay, ALL the trouble! If Qui could only have left both Jar-Jar and the whiny little infected slave kid where they were none of this would have happened. Well maybe some of it. Perhaps Padme, upon retiring from her tenure as Queen would have moved to Tatooine and shacked up in a trailer somewhere with the much younger Anakin. I can see it all now... "'Ey Paddie baby, bring me anudder brewski, ok? No mamma, I said brewSKI, not brewSCHMI. G'wan back and watch your stories on the holo-teevee"

So instead Qui-Gonn doesn't heed the much wiser peers around him, gets himself killed and sets the stage for the creation of the Empire, the slaughter of the Jedi and all sorts of other evil crap.

Oh MagnoliaFan... if that scene appears in the theatrical or dvd release of EPIII, *please* fix it! Please!!!!

Regretfully that will probably happen, right after Spidey 3. My guess is Raimi will move on to other pastures, most of the cast will jump with him, the studio will wait a couple of years and then find the *all-new* Spider-man. Could be good, could be bad- but it'll never be the same....

maybe Joel Schumacher will get involved!
