Yeah it was news to me until lately also. People apparently scan them and then zip them into files called .cbr's. If you have WinRAR you can just change the file extension to .rar, and extract all the pages! Kinda cool. I actually have caught up on a few series this way (I've been out of comics about 8 years now, give or take)

Aw c'mon... not *everyone* knows about all that- if they did, region-free players would be the only ones out there and the only DVDs you could buy would be widescreen.

Chaltab, in a nutshell the 'Region' system was put in place to avoid piracy, at least in theory. Laserdiscs were not region encoded back in the day, nor were videotapes. The idea with DVDs was that if a film was out on DVD in, say, the USA already but just hitting theaters in Asia, then pirates and even consumers would just sell/buy the discs and the movie studios would lose money.

And you don't even have to buy a DVD player marked as 'Region-Free'. I bought a DVD player at Target for $40 that, by enter a code with the remote (exactly like a video game cheat code), 'unlocks' the player making it Region-Free AND opening it up to NTSC/PAL conversion. Speaking of...

Region codes on DVDs are an entirely different thing than the video format of NTSC versus PAL. Simply put, different countries have different currents of electricity. TV, computer monitor, video games etc create their images on-screen based on how fast the electricty flows. This is why a video game or VHS tape or DVD from most of Europe are not directly compatible with players from the USA or Asia. The GBA has it's own screen and it's own powersource and that's why no region coding... but if Nintendo really wanted to be jerks they could program it in! Swell hunh!!

Anyway, I just wanted to chime in and say don't feel stupid for not knowing this- its a lot of technical hoo-hah... but its fun to geek about at times!

Info: Star Wars Toys at Target.Com
Time

Target.Com has a Star Wars ‘event’ page up at:

http://target.com/target_group/stores_services/starwars.jhtml

with, among other stuff, a sweepstakes to win their limited edition ROTS Darth Vader figure.

But the thing I found amusing was the ‘Make a Scene’ section- its like ‘Mad Libs’ but played out with Star Wars action figure. Kinda amusing for a department store…

In Sci-Fi scientific theory, if you were to hurl C-3PO around a sun at the correct speed and trajectory he would able to travel backwrads and forwards in time... that is, if he didn't melt. "Oh my, R2... is it hot out here or is it just me?"

Perhaps R2 could use his jets and fly them both....

I've been a BIG fan of the comic since it started waaaay back in 'Dark Horse Presents' and have all sorts of cool Sin City stuff around my house (prints, Zippos, a mirror, etc) so you could say I'm a geek for it. I always hate looking forward to movies as they tend to disappoint me- a symptom of getting older I guess, lol- but I will be there tomorrow to see it and from everything I've seen it looks awesome!

I'm a big fan of Robert Rodriguez's work and of almost all the people involved, so at least I feel the heart of the film will be in the right place.... pulsing in someone's bloody hand after having been yanked from their chest...

I SOOOOO agree! I've said it before, but upon seeing bits and pieces of the mini-series when it aired I thought 'utter crap', but due to the recommendation of the DigitalBits guys and the ability to watch the entire first season without commercials and back-to-back (thanks to ab.scifi) I got HOOKED... I mean... I WANT TO SEE MORE NOW!!!

LOL. Good stuff. And oddly, I'm neither a big follower of episodic TV (at least until the DVDs come ut of series I'm interested in) nor the crop of Sci-Fi in general over the past, I don't know, 15 years or so.

I must be a fan of Battlestar Galactica in my heart anyhow.... I mean, people have always told me I'm FULL of BS.

ESB made me love that guy!

Should Anakin have been trained?

"I think it is obvious that [Qui-Gon] was wrong in Episode 1 and made a dangerous decision, but ultimately this decision may be correct. The Phantom Menace refers to the force of the dark side of the Universe. Anakin will be taken over by dark forces which in turn destroy the balance of the Galaxy, but the individual who kills the Emperor is Darth Vader - also Anakin. The tale meanders and both the prediction, and Qui-Gonn are correct - Anakin is the chosen one, and he did bring peace at last with his own sacrfice. Luke couldn't kill the Emperor himself, but he could make Anakin reflect on his life and kill the Emperor. (9/7/99). LINK

It's "obvious" that he's wrong, but it may well be right? At this point, I'm not sure that even Lucas knows what he is trying to accomplish with the PT.

D'oh! Now the whole thing makes less sense than ever. But as I step back from it, I realize that the only thing meandering is the mind of the person who created this whole thing. I should have never studied logic. Maybe that would make a cool 'What If?' type of story- 'What If Qui-Gon had never picked up Anakin?" Palpatine/Sidious still had his plan going, but would it have failed? Or would some others have just been the dupes? Some other Jedi 'brought balance'?

I suppose I could accept the story more if someone would internally acknowledge it... bringing me back to Yoda. I personally would be happier with Yoda seeing 'Qui-Gon' and saying to him "Well dude... you f'd up, I f'd up... such is the ways of the balance of the Force. I'm gonna go squat in a hut somewhere (not a Hutt, mind you) and think about what we all learned... care to join me? Jedi Miller time, it is."

Forsooth, Bossk... perhaps Hanson is an early version of the ManglerBot... kinda like a clone that you had to try a few times before getting it right... that's why they look so similar.
