I am boycotting EpIII.
Time
Warbler-

Don't beat yourself up over it. I've quit trying to justify my minor financial support of the PT. We're geeks- what can we say. GL will do what he will; he is his own king.

I think you owed it to yourself as a fan to see it at least once in the theater. Best case scenario- you find out you like it and are glad you went. Worst case scenario- you find you hated it and now have something to bitch to us about. Or, you're somewhere in between.

No harm no foul. We all know your heart is in the right place....

(in a jar on GL's $100,000 desk..... AHHHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA) <- just kidding!

ROTS: After the 2nd viewing... (possible spoilers)
Time
Its my understanding that at the time when 'Star Wars' was made, GL had no idea (or plans) to make another film. At that time, the events of the film should be taken at face value- no idea that Darth was Luke's father, no thoughts about Luke and Leia being siblings....

That said, when SW became the blockbuster that it did and GL saw that sequels were wanted by the fans and studio alike, he was able to flesh out the story and came up with most of the ideas that he has stuck with over the years.

By ESB he decided that Darth was Luke's father... but *still* had Leia lay a good snog on Luke early in the film which helped to set up the romantic tension later on with Han. Though we may never know for sure, I personally think that GL had NOT decided that Leia was Luke's sister at that time and *may* have had some other character in mind when Yoda and Ben mention 'another'. As to who, anyone's speculation is as good as mine.

By the time Blue Harvest...uh, I mean ROTJ ( ) was in production I feel that to wrap up the story in more of a clean fashion GL decided to just make that 'other' Leia. That way, no new character to introduce and a way to put someone Luke cares about in danger.

I realize fans have decided that the Force was able to shield Leia from Vader noticing her... but really: in SW she was directly under Vader's nose (including being interrogated... and one can presume that though neither of them knew her true origins Vader still probed her mind with the Force and probably doped her up in hopes of getting the location of the hidden Rebel base) and in ESB she, Han and Chewie were Forced (pun intended) to have dinner with Darth on Bespin.

So I feel the family additions were just as progressive as the whole movie-making process.

LOL...so true.

Heh. That bugged the beejeesus out of me for some reason. At least Yoda clocks the guards, but Palps doesn't even dismiss that guy! Palps blasts Yoda and he just kinda shrugs and walks (not even briskly) out. Some help *he* was to Palps.

Good points InfoDroid. Hey- maybe *that's* why the Empire started excluding non-humans!

"Inhuman dog!" thought the newly self-appointed Emperor, "How DARE he leave me to be knocked over a chair by a gremlin with a lightsaber! For THAT transgression I shall make one of my first acts the abolishment of ALL sub-human species from MY Empire!! Mhhuhhahahahaaaaaaa..*cough cough* hahahahahHAHAH *hack* (damn, I must have caught Grievous' cold)"

ROTS: Palpatine's Master
Time
Yes, when Palps tells the tale of Plagueous and gets to the part about his apprentice killing him in his sleep, he looks forward and grins an evil, knowing sort of grin. I (and most people it seems) took this as an indication that it was Palps that killed his master after he had learned all he could.

Of course, with no indication from Lucas, it *could* only have meant that Palps just really admired Plagueous' apprentice for what he did. It is just a matter of interpretaion though.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
I for one agree with you ric- upon re-watching there is no way that Vader/Death Star scene takes place 'immediately' after the events in ROTS. There are too many visual clues to the contrary (like you said- uniforms, as well as slightly changed Star Destroyers, the idea of Imperial forces in place so readily, that much construction on the Death Star)

Actually I think a good edit would leave it out entirely. Why is it needed? To beat us over the head with fact that the films are supposed to tie together? I don't think so.

And for that matter, why didn't GL just make Tarkin have been Palpatine's aid in the Senate instead of Blue Devil or whatever that guy's name was? I think THAT would have been cool- having Tarkin be sort of a 'secretary of defense' for the Old Republic after Palps got power. Instead we get blue guy, who when Yoda comes to confront Palps just walks out.

What is everyone’s view on the “prophecy?”

As important as it was to the story of the prequels I would have liked THAT to have been the opening crawl of Episode 1- instead of 'blah, blah, blah' about trade blockades and junk like that, open with the prophecy:

"It has been fortold, in days long ago, that out of chaos shall rise....." etc, etc etc.

If you get the deleted magic dvdr it's at the beginning of that, can't exactly remember what it says. But it's taken from the journal of the whill's and the word's are roughly.... 'in a time of deepest despair the saviour will come and he will be the son of the two suns' ...or words to that effect anyway

Hey cool! Thanks for the heads-up! I *do* have the disc but haven't had a chance to sit and watch it yet (sorry G!) but I'll make a point to do so soon.

Two things bugged me on the second view:

1- When Obi-wan is looking at the security holograms, he mentions Palpatine as the "Emperor". How did he know?

Because EVERYONE in the PT seems to know EVERYTHING about everyone else at one point or another. This is called bad continuity and is usually the job of the script supervisor to watch out for- but I imagine that GL didn't allow much input into that.

Stages Of Accepting the Prequel Trilogy
Time
Stage One: Shock and Denial

"No, how could they ever have allowed *that* to happen?? Jar-Jar? Grievous? Hayden's acting???? I can't be seeing this!! I... don't... understand...."

Stage Two: Anger

"Damn that Lucas!! He's stolen my childhood! Lousy bastard!! Grrrrrrr!!!! And why no un-altered original trilogy on DVD!?!?!?!?"

Stage Three: Bargaining

"OK, maybe if we sign petitions... and do fan edits... and go to conventions... and write letters... or drink a LOT.... MAYBE they'll get better."

Stage Four: Depression

"If I can't have it like I always wanted it, life isn't worth living living... maybe I'll jump off a bridge... or worse... become a Star Trek fan!!!"

Stage Five: Acceptance

"OK. I guess they *are* just movies. Despite how much money I've spent supporting them. Despite how many lines I've waited in or how many toys I've bought... Despite having a tattoo of Jabba on my ass (you know- Jabba the Butt)... I suppose George Lucas can do whatever he wants... even if it makes us miss 'Howard the Duck"

You ever see that MTV animated series 'The Head'? I like to think GL has a alien parasite who lives in his neck and controls his thoughts... making evil things like the prequels happen.
