Good stuff gang!

MBJ: Maybe Anakin was just too far gone at that point, too intent on trying to kick Obi butt that it just kinda went over his head.

Obi-Wonton: And that actually made me think of this too. Who says being the Chosen One has to be about who is more powerful than who- it wasn't Vader's 'power' that killed the Emperor. It was his being in the right (or wrong) place at the right time. Taking the Prophecy at whatever face value it has, Vader really was kind of a dupe. He played along with the Dark Side long enough to be basically trusted by Palps and when finally he had a change of heart when Luke is going to die he just takes a bullet for him and chucks an old man down a shaft. Important? Yes. Powerful? Eh... not so much so- he DID die afterall.

So perhaps any number of Jedi were more *powerful* than Anakin (Obi did kick his ass afterall ) but instead he was just fullfilling a prophecy to be the one who gained the confidence of evil and took advantage of an opportunity.

and prophecies can be tricky things.....

Why is it that the Sith...
Time
Well that we know of...

Maybe they CAN come back, but instead like poltergeists or something! Just imagine the 'ghost' stories on Naboo...

"We've had several workers who refuse to go into the power chamber any longer. They keep hearing weird noises, feeling un-ease and a couple even claimed to see objects move on their own! Spoooooookyyyy!"

(and thanks for the shout-out in the other thread Obi-Wonton! Right back atcha!)

Back to the 'Chosen One' discussion, I have a question:

DID Anakin KNOW he was supposed to be the Chosen One until Obi-Wan shouted it at him near the end of ROTS?

I realize Yoda, Mace, Obi, Qui and so on all discussed his 'One-ness' but I can't really remember right off if Anakin ever went on about it. I remember 'I'm better than this' and 'I can be better than them all' rants from him, but not directly referring to the Prophecy. Hmmm.

Maybe nobody told him that they thought he was this Chosen One directly, which made him sense that they were holding some information him and thus causing him to dis-trust the Jedi more. You'd think Palps would have been all like "No my boy- they just dislike you because of this Prophecy- they know you're better then them." IF the Jedi had told him. Instead Palps was able tweak Anakin's distrust to his own advantage.

Can the Ewoks be cut out?
Time
And perhaps- just perhaps- we don't have the entire Ewok picture.

Though I agree that with a few minutes notice it would have been nigh impossible for the Ewoks to have cut down and then raised those trees into a position *just* to smash the AT-St there may be other possibilities- after all, we will gladly go on and on about the lives and cultures of character and races in SW we *like* but I can't remember seeing any discussion on the Ewok culture (short of the Ewok movies which though I maybe watched when they came out I can't say I remember).

So- the Ewoks live in those elaborate tree-houses right? Somehow they manage to get all the materials up to the levels of their dwellings. Do they climb up the trees carrying lumber on their backs? I doubt it. So logically one can assume that they have worked out a primative engineering system allowing them to raise materials to the level needed to build. The simplest way to achieve this would be a counter-weight system- cut down a medium-sized tree, attach ropes to it, loop the ropes over high branches and then collectively hoist. The Ewoks were advanced enough to have hang-gliders, etc so they have some basic engineering thought.

Anyhow, whatever the exact un-seen construction methods were, let's say that they develop their 'neighborhoods' at the same time like much construction in our world. They very well could have been in the middle of constructing an Ewok sub-division when the Imperials showed up. So construction stops for a bit but they heavy equipment wouldn't have been removed- just secured somehow.

Then imagine the creative little teddy bears thought "Hey! If we were to trick some of these bad guys into following us into our construction zone, we could use our primitive equipment to our advantage and they'd never know what hit them!"

The rest, as they say, is history.

Dear God- did I just *defend* the Ewoks. I MUST be getting old!

Does Tarkin know that the Emperor is a Sithlord?

Well prior to the PT, I would have said that we as viewers/readers/etc just didn't have enough information regarding the political system in SW to know who would take over had the Emperor died. It just wasn't a part of the story that needed to be told.

(for that matter though, I've never heard a discussion anywhere else about who would take over for such-and-such bad guy in this-or-that film... its kinda funny if you think about it. "So like in Krull, IF the evil king died, what system of checks and balances are in place to ensure that the evil government continues to to run evilly?")

Then with the PT one could assume that indeed Vader would have been groomed to take over in the untimely event that Palps, say, tripped and fell down a seemingly endless chasm inside a space station of unrivaled power. ("Whoops- sorry boss!")

So where does Tarkin fit in to the government structure? Considering both trilogies I'd think its like this: Vader/Tarkin act like the Senate/Jedi Council. Vader as more of a 'outside-of-government' strong-arm enforcer, someone who has the ability to commandeer resources at his whim or whenever the Emp tells him to get something done, few questions asked. Tarkin on the other hand is all business, has to follow the rules (eeeevvviiiilllll though they may be) and is there to maintain true military chain of command. In that regard they are both 'managers' but of different 'departments'.

It looks like they decided to scrap that scene in favor of the version where Anakin kills her, because there's a part about that in the section about post production. There were images from both scenes in the book.

Ah cool! Thanks for the clarification Rev!

LOL. Thought the script capture looked familiar... No problem at all! That's why I shared it in the first place!

Do you (or anyone) know where in the script the Grievous/Shaakti thing was to have gone? I can't really picture it having fit in anywhere.

Two of the Hamlet films make my list:

A) 'Hamlet' starring Kenneth Branaugh (first version with complete text of play! not on DVD yet though dammit but at least I have my LD!)

B) 'The Adventures of Bob and Doug MacKenzie in Strange Brew' (aka Strange Brew). Most of you younglings won't know who the heck Bob and Doug are, but not only is the basic 'plot' of this film Hamlet, but it is probably (along with Clue) one of my favorite comedies of all time!!! And it has an AWESOME Star Wars joke in it!!

Doug McKenzie (Vader breathing): I am your father, Luke. Give in to the dark side of the force, you knob.
Bob McKenzie: He saw Jedi 17 times, eh!

I'm an idiot. There, I said it. With that being said, I need some help. Everytime I try to print out a DVD Cover it is too small. The height works fine but the length is just too short. This is even after I change the settings. I'm assuming there is some small thing I can do that I'm not. Can anyone help me? Also, I have a Dell computer and printer if that helps.

You need 8.5" x 14" LEGAL SIZED paper

Depends on your printer as well. If you have a printer capable of printing to the borders of your paper, you can just make sure the margins are reduced to '0' and the page is set to print in 'landscape' position. Also some printers can be 'tricked' by setting paper size to 'legal' without actually having that size...

Though reading some of today's posts elsewhere I don't know if some people on these forums *should* meet face-to-face.

I think that's an easy one- because the GL of the OT didn't have inclination of a concept of this 'rule of 2' crap from the PT. My personal feeling is that came about because GL couldn't think of a way to make the Jedi think there might be another Sith around somewhere after Qui and Obi encountered Maul. The clueless Jedi couldn't sense the Sith at all according to the PT films, so when Qui-Gon says (and I paraphrase) "I think that dude was a Sith!" GL had to make some character point out that another bad guy existed, as obviously there can be mo mystery in the PT SW Universe. So we GL pulls out of his ass "uh... there are always two... a master and a bitch... oh wait... a master and an apprentice.... that's it!"

Dragon*Con
Time
I have been debating going for quite some time. I've never been but its not *too* far away from me. Many, many of my friends go each year. I guess my only fear is spending too much money. There's a LOT of stuff to spend money on from what I've heard. Another thread had suggested that we try to organize an OT.Com con or something, or at least have a gathering at another con that already exists. I'd be up for this!

Also, its already probably too late for this year but I believe organizations or individuals can get cheap 'booth' space at DragonCon without having to pay full 'dealer' room fees and many people use these to promote fans films, websites, bands, etc... it would have to be manned all the time but might be cool. Good promotion for the OT.Com. Heck, time permitting I'd probably volunteer the man the booth for a bit if others would as well.

On a side note, there's a horror convention coming up in Baltimore in August that I'm thinking of going to as well- looks pretty cool:

6 DVD Box Set for this November
Time
Speaking of the never-to-be 7,8 and 9- who's to say they have to be set within the lives of Luke, Han, et al? What if it were (non-EU) younger adults several years after the events of ROTJ embarking on their own adventures and just referring back to what happened before much like Ep 4 did when is came out?

You could even have Mark Hamill make a surprise appearance in it towards the end as a Force ghost to direct the new Jedi hero, whomever he or she may be.

Geez yeah- I'm HORRIBLE about that. Stupid collector mentality! I'm at a point now where I'd need a two-week vacation (with my wife gone out of town by herself), lots of Diet Pepsi, popcorn and maybe some Nutter Butters just to start *thinking* about catching up!

Nice job on article, Hardcore.

That is the first time I've seen the talked-about Grievous/Shaakti pic and I have to say it looks like a bad Photoshop job to me. I imagine someone did it as a mock-up after the kick-ass 'Clone Wars' cartoon confrontation between the two.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Jay!!!!

That cannot be!!!!!! GL had the ENTIRE story, word-for-word, planned out since he was born!!!!! He NEVER deviated from his tale!!!

Why.... that would make him almost... gasp... *human* or something if he ever changed his mind!!!!

(yes, I am a firm believer that GL, like many creators, just was making up whatever felt 'right' to him at the moment)
