Chilling. Nothing in the prequels comes even close.

And of course from the 2007 DVD SE release:

Quote

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of individual midichlorian voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened. Perhaps even to the people hosting the midichlorians as well."

Pick up a good english dictionary and you just might solve this mystery.

er... WHICH book of yours. Is that how you want me to phrase the question?

Or perhaps: "The book of which you spoke" "The book you mentioned in your post" etc, etc, etc.

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!

Ah c'mon YIYF! Nitpicking yes, but HC didn't say "I hate the PT because the Clone troops' radios don't click on and off". He merely pointed out a curiosity that ran through his mind and asked if anyone else had noticed it.

Lighten up man!

Too many people here are getting all defensive right now... must be the knowledge that the movies are over... for now...

Actually the gassing was one of the few scenes that was right in line with the comic book version of the Joker at the time. For reference, check out if you get the chance:

The Dark Knight Returns

The Killing Joke

and maybe

The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told

For the book that sorta gave birth to 'Batman Begins' you should definately pick up:

No Shim, I'm asking if- after the PT (or parts of it) came out from 2001 onward or whatever, did anyone write anything either involving Luke and Leia wondering about their mom OR in general did authors use stuff introduced in the PT in their books. In other words do Gungans show up somewhere or do Leia's mention Qui-Gon or something like that.

I dunno, the fact that they can fly a ship into the thing just makes it seem more vunerable than the small exhaust port on the first one. and i dont think the construction necessarily accounts for the ship size (and not just small ships either) tunnels in the Death Star II.

Maybe, while under construction, the Empire's construction crew used those four corridors for moving small ships and construction supplies in and out of the DS2. It wouldn't seem to make sense to me to build a power core free-floating in space and then build a superstructure *around* it. Then, as the core and inner construction wraps the builder seal the passageways from the inside out until eventually they are completely closed and sealed by the hull.

The Prequels - my personal opinion

a couple of things from the desk of greencapt....

1) Welcome Damon! I'm always glad to see new blood that is capable of well written, well thought out posts!

2) The rift here at OT.Com seems to be growing wider and wider in some forums, especially in the 'General SW Discussion' area. This saddens me. I've found a new community of 'friends' here and hope people will continue to be able to talk about things with depth, humor and sometimes sheer silliness without resorting to the 'you suck... no YOU suck mentality of oh so many other forums.

12+ hour Star Wars Saga Marathon?

I'm going to have a LOTR EE Marathon tomorrow though, maybe I can work SW into the weekend.

now THAT will be awesome. I was one of the lucky (or stupid ) few who saw the LOTR trilogy in the theater on their Dec. 16th marathon. It was the EE of FOTR and TTT followed by the first showing premiere of ROTK.

WOW. That's all I can say. That day was the best theater experience that I have had since... geez... maybe the original ESB opening day!

*** And miochza: Congrats on the 6 film viewing!! Despite my lack of excitement about the PT, I miss the days of being able to get groups of friends together to watch films all day, eat and enjoy each other's company.

You're correct DAS- I think many people here at the forums forget that most (if not all) of us were BEYOND willing to give TPM a chance. In fact I'd wager we gave (and give) a heckuva lot more chances to all the PT films than most people would have. We must have- we continue to talk about them here.

If TPM would have been released *without* the 1997 SEs having been released I would have given it much more of a chance. But the SEs made me wary of what was to come. Then actually *seeing* TPM I shrugged- I was greatly disappointed but not devastated; after all they ARE just films. Then I, like many others, gave AOTC a chance... again I was there on opening night. Again I was disappointed. A logical person would have stopped giving chances at that point. And yet there I was again, at midnight on the opening day of ROTS. Another chance. Another personal disappointment. Some liked it, some hated it and some in between... but we are the people who gave it a 'chance'.

Again no knock against Hamill but I think Glover could pull the entire package. And folks, he *has* done other work than BTTF. Plus is really really is a seriously creepy wired guy and could bring lots to the role.

Greencapt: I couldn't disagree with you more about Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker. I thought it was great! Easily the best performance of anyone in those four Batman movies. No one else could play that role like he did. NO ONE.

Best performance of the first four films? Sure probably (though Alfred was pretty good throughout). Was he a good Joker? Not really in my opinion- he was Jack Nicholson. Maybe they should have called him the Jacker? As a reader of the comic that was not the Joker that many creators worked hard to define. And I just plain had a hard time looking at him. Then again I had a hard time looking at Keaton as Batman.

Batman-On-Film is a great site, but if you look at the Recent News section you'll find this:

Got a new name to add into the mix for The Joker in the BATMAN BEGINS sequel: Paul Bettany. Bettany joins Lachy Hulme and Crispin Glover in the mix to play The Crown Prince of Crime. The same source who passed along Bettany's name informed us that there is "no truth" behind Mark Hamill being up for the role. He also told us that Mr. Hamill is "a little old" for this new take on The Joker. Mr. Hamill is in his mid-fifties I believe. I'm digging into more sequel rumors, so stay tuned....

I *really* like Paul Bettany as well. He was great in 'A Knight's Tale' and should be interesting as the albino villain in 'The DaVinci Code'

Sci-Fi rip-offs

Browsing at allposters.com I found the following pic:

Notice the ship in the upper left of the poster...LOL

This made me think- which other movies/posters/etc ripped off not only Star Wars but other famous Sci-Fi movies? Roger Corman's production company was famous for re-using sets and models so there's lots of fodder there...

and Jedikev.... I'm 34. Yep, many of us 'grups' (get *that* reference you youngins!) are getting braces.

The Joker in my opinion takes an eccletic mix of oddly skinny physique and psycho mentality that very few actors could pull off effectively. Hammill does an awesome voice and acting job on the character but has no physical resemblance to Joker. I'm sure I'll be in the minority here but I could not stand Jack Nicholson as Joker! About the time of 'The Shining' Nicholson stopped *acting* in movies and started only playing himself. Jack, we get it already- now show us something we haven't seen! But instead Burton fell for the act and gave us a fat, middle-age man in clown make-up. Oh joy. Was he *bad*? Not much more than the rest of the film...

Anywho, the current rumor I've read for casting of the Joker would, I feel, be almost perfect- Crispin Glover. A thinner, more crazy actor I do not know!

Of course, I've always liked the rest of that including "... years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars."

But if she meant Bail Organa, now that GL has revealed his 'master plot' for the SW saga that means here is *another* OT character who lied out of their ass as Obi-Wan is never stated to have 'served' Organa in any way nor was Organa stated to have anything to do with the wars.

But maybe Leia's 'Force memories' that everyone thinks she had made her say that and she meant Anakin Skywalker. With that thinking perhaps her Force connection to her real father lied to her and Anakin's hubris made her think that Obi 'served' Anakin during the war.

Or perhaps...just perhaps.... GL should have just thought about *watching* the films he made or co-created several years ago.

But yes Wonton that line has stuck with me as well!
