Indiana Jones 4
Time
From MTV.Com:

Harrison Ford's not getting any younger (and Karen Allen's not getting any more relevant), so fans can't help but wonder: When, exactly, are we going to see the long-promised fourth Indiana Jones movie? "We just keep working on it," shrugged series writer/producer George Lucas. "You know, we just write and write and write and write and write. But we are getting closer, and hopefully this year we will have a start date and we will have a script that we all love and hopefully it will come out next year." Lucas added that Jeff Nathanson ("Catch Me if You Can") is the newest addition to a pile of screenwriters bigger than the Cairo swordsman's weapon of choice. Ford has said that he will reprise his whip-wielding adventurer role for the first time since 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and Steven Spielberg is making plans to direct. ...

Story here.

Possible... well sorta maybe yeah with the right tech. Have I that tech? No sorry. Was that the plan? Nope... just gonna use the old 2.0 track as it was/is.

The pressure... the pressure!!! LOL

Thanks for the further info! Now I'm really curious about it. There are pretty severe editing differences in the two UK versions I have (though I haven't compared the UK DVD original dub version to my Criterion laser yet). I wish it were as easy as just a couple of scenes but its not only several small cuts but also like I said shots that were held longer (like the opening title).

As long as I'm checking for differences, does the 'Production Report' on the Madman DVD have the old dub or the new subtitles?

Sifo, I sometimes PREFER the non-native speakers because your English is often better than many of the supposedly *native* speakers here.

OK cool, thanks for the links. So does anyone here OWN this? How did they handle the different cuts seemlessly with the shorter original English dub? Was there a different Australian dub originally? Enquiring minds want to know!

<-- and we weren't starting a debate. I think it was assumed what I was attempting would be PAL because my source was, but as I'm in the states and am doing it essentially for myself and my mostly NTSC-only friends (why oh why can't I get more people to buy players that convert?!?!) I was only planning on doing a NTSC release.

Oh I won't give up hope and the final release would *of course* be NTSC.

Probably because I've never heard of Madman Australia or that release. Links? Details?

So I began to attempt Project Akira: The Easy Version and it proves to be much more challenging than I had assumed. I took the two different UK DVDs, the original English dub full screen disc and the newly remastered widescreen re-dub. The thought was to sync the old audio with the new video.

Though I had read a difference in running times (by about 4 minutes) my internet research yielded little info on if anything had actually been changed.

Well, it has. Actually the 'original' English release had shortened and lengthened scenes scattered throughout the film. The new master apparently restored all the cut stuff but of course it would be very time consuming to go through each scene, find out what had been changed and make up audio for the gaps. Not something I look forward to.

So it looks as if I'm somewhat back to the drawing board or at the very least back to running a capture from my Criterion laserdisc... some day.

what'a good age to introduce kids to star wars??

*sigh*

Here we go again. Sorry Jay- I tried to come back for awhile and it seemed like there were some decent, thoughtful and/or entertaining discussions going on.

But again we begin to devolve into sophomoric prattle which, I'm quite sure, will soon become juvenile name calling. As an adult I understand the frustrations that many of us older folk have with trying to participate in discussions with younger folk- sometimes its just hard for either side to approach situations on the same level of maturity.

Listen- by its very nature EVERYTHING we write about here is utter shit and has no bearing on 'real life'. Maybe that's the true magic of George Lucas- he understands that fact and couldn't give a rat's ass about Star Wars any further than keeping the money flowing in so his companies stay in the black.

Yet another thread has become about nothing that the original poster intended and has become grade-school dramatics. And just as I graduated from grade school long ago I think its about time to graduate from this crap.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Someoine in this thread invent a time machine so we can the to see the eps earlier!!! (may also come in hand to win the lottery etc )

Earlier isn't always good. I hadn't started watching season one while it played on Sci-Fi but got ahold of some fan-made DVDs of the entire first series from the UK showings. So even though the U.S. run was only half through I had seen the enitre first season and of course the cliff-hanger it ended on!! Talk about be frustrated having to wait!!!!! I hadn't been that anxious for a tv series to start a new season in I don't know how long!

As someone who is about to be a first time parent this will be a consideration that I'll have to face as well... that said the original question here was AT WHAT AGE to introduce kids to SW and not WHICH MOVIES to choose to watch. The latter is the choice of the parent(s) just as it is with every other type of media or entertainment choice.

So... I don't see anything in the OT that is potentially harmful to a child's mind from about age 4 and up. Then again I think that might be a bit too early to get the full impact of the adventure one is seeing. I saw 'SW' on my 6th birthday and (as evidenced by my presence here) I got hooked. And the *gasp* 'slower' pacing of the OT might help kids who aren't just looking for video game-ish loud flashy images and actually want to get a feel for characters. 'Phantom Menace' would be the best, imho, of the PT for a younger child (4-6) to see. 'AOTC' and 'ROTS' probably have moments a bit too dark but then again Luke decapitating Vader in 'ESB' is a bit dark too.

So I guess stick with the more kid-friendly films like 'SW', 'ROTJ' and 'PM' to start with... baby steps into a bigger world.

Just watched last night's episode. A lot if info for one ep and though I know they had to get through it all I feel they easily could have stretched it into a two-hour one. Still very very good though. And like my mentor used to say- "I love it when a plan comes together!"

Lucas was still reworking the turn scene after post production!

That is IF the story was ever about Vader/Anakin in the first place. Which the logical among us know it wasn't. Vader was, as said before, just a bad-ass bad guy.

Exactly. Logical storytelling would have made Obi-Wan the hero of the first prequel showing his character to the greatest degree. Then possibly at the end of that film he meets this 'great pilot' who he decides to make into something greater. Then segue into the next film which shows the pair working together, possibly in the clone wars, but developing the story in a way which shows they have different methodology and perhaps cannot work as well together as they initially thought. Finally open the third film with the rift between the two, with Ben working to reign in his friend who has gone rogue, ending with the 'final' clash between the two.

I'm not writing the PT here, just theorizing on possible theme pacing that could have been.

Very good read CO- thanks! I find it sad that Lucas puts so much credence into to views and opinions of his peer group (assumedly Spielberg et al) and at the same time seemingly dismisses the views of most of the vast empire (pun intended) of LFL, studios etc. I'm not saying he should listen to everyone, just that someone who makes such a big deal of publically stating his is the ONLY opinion that matters shouldn't second-guess himself like that. I was recently watching the 'scene in a minute' (or whatever) behind the scenes docu on the 'Sith' DVD and a couple of things stuck out in my mind. One was GL talking about bringing Spielberg in as a consultant. When addressing his own employees GL repeatedly referred to Spielberg as 'our director'. This was only vaguely tongue-in-cheek and I got the impression that somewhere under the surface GL really felt like under Spielberg he wasn't a 'real' director. The other thing that struck me was the fear in the faces of the employees when Lucas was around them. They all look petrified to me. And the guy who says "George really suports us and our ideas- he'll look at something and say 'that's great- just not in MY movie'"- that doesn't sound very supportive to me. That sounds more like 'quit dicking around and do what I told you or you're out'.

Dunno, maybe its just me.
