Yoda talking in OT vs PT, way different

Anyway, in ESB his dialogue changes to more coherent when he reveals himself to be the Jedi master Luke was looking for. Before that most of his dialogue was backwards-speak. Then when it was obvious that he wasn't the local retard, his speech became much more clear.

Didn't you see the copy of 'The Galactic Guide to English for the Bass-Akwards Speaker' in Yoda's pocket on Dagobah? He brought a copy with him to practice after Obi-Won blew up at him off-camera once yelling "WHAT?!?!? WHAT the HELL are you going on about?!?!? Bloody HELL man I can NEVER understand a DAMNED word you say!!!"

It hurts his poor feelings....

And now, rest of story you know.

Not doubting you battlewars but do you have a link to this documentation? Remember us older fans did kinda follow a LOT of what the old boy said... we didn't have too much else to do. No internet you know!

I agree. I just don't 'get' this whole mini-screens-to-watch-movies thing. Maybe its because I'm in my mid 30s and my eyes aren't what they used to be but damn- what enjoyment do you get from watching a TV show on your iPod or a movie on your PSP, etc??

The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
Though Alec Baldwin is easily hate-able, have no fear my UK friends... as far as *I* know it remained 'Thomas the Tank Engine' here in the states as well.

On the other hand the 'Philosopher's Stone' change pisses me the hell off too! Unknown author having nothing to do with it, it was just a damned stupid change. Then again, knowing a fair share of younger folk here, I fear A) that they wouldn't know what the hell the 'philosopher's stone' was historically and B) They would probably never buy or read a book that had anything to do with philosophy. Hell most people here in the States probably can't even *pronounce* philosopher!

DVD Brands
Time
There can be bad batches or bad brands of DVDs, at least I've found this to be the case in my experience. I will never buy another HP DVDr if I can help it... too many coasters or worse the very 'freeze-up' that you describe.

That said, you might want to try another program to burn your discs with as well. For DVD image files (as are generally created with Shrink) you should give DVDDecrypter a try- I actually use that program almost exclusively for buring image file and I use Nero for burning DVD folder structure files (VIDEO_TS). Always be sure to use the 'verify' feature of whatever software you use because it'll save a lot of frustration later in front of the TV.

Another thing to look for is the speed that you're burning at. My DVD writer is 'capable' of 8x speed but 75% of the time if I burn a 8x disc at 8x speed I end up with corrupt data and a coaster. Maybe you just need to take it sllooooowwwwweeerrrr...

Thinking of Fantasy Movies that came out during the OT

i remember movies like Dune (funny how the mechandising for this one was aimed at kids...) Outland (ok that one is more influenced by Alien), Krull, Tron, etc...

And Roger Corman's 'Battle Beyond the Stars'!!!! Pure lovable crap!!! A starship with BOOBS!!! Whoo-hoo!!

I think Qui-Gon was actually sort of a hippy/druggie which is what addled his brain. "Duuuuuuddeeee... there are like these little creatures man and like they're in your blood... DUDE- in your BLOOD! And they like talk to me... yeah...

uh... dude? What were we talking about again? Ah crap I'm hungry...."

But actually I like the idea of Force-drug boosts. That would make the Jedi kinda like 'Bane' from Batman... maybe a cross between Bane and the Hulk. The Jedi shoot up before battle and then sort of 'hulk out'... "GGGrrrrrrrrr!!! OBI-WON SMASH!!! PUNY BATTLE DROIDS!!!!"

Also, the industry's move towards redistributing back-issues via other media (Marvel's CD Rom series, for example) is going to further squeeze the local shops. If I were going to do it, I would probably make it some type of combination business...and not baseball cards. Something different.

Oh yeah you do need lots of opening capital (maybe not *that* much but it depends on the market you're in. The shop I was with had comics, anime, rpgs, used books, metaphysic books, swords, toys, etc. All crammed into a reasonably small space. I honestly don't think a shop that specializes in any one of those will do as well as one that diversifies. And regrettfully back issues have been dead since the early 90s really. Its a shame as that's how I found and read some of my all-time favorite stories. And I and many other folks got a charge out of completing an entire run of a title. Then again, thanks to a little thing called .cbr that I discovered because of this thread, I can catch up on some stuff I've missed since 1998.

'Fanboys' wanted
Time
I hadn't heard about this project but thought I'd mention it after seeing it on AICN:

January 23rd, 2006

Dear Star Wars Fans,

In four short weeks we are about to embark on a journey of epic proportions to make the ultimate fan film, Fanboys, a comedy about friends, fans and delusions of grandeur.

The film was written by Ernest Cline and Adam F. Goldberg and will begin shooting this February 22nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fanboys is a co-production between Trigger Street Productions (Kevin Spacey's production company)/ Coalition Film and will be distributed worldwide by The Weinstein Company.

Fanboys takes place in the fall of 1998, a time when everything was pure and Star Wars ruled the world once again. We follow four life-long best friends who travel cross-country in an attempt to break into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. Their mission is to see Star Wars Episode I early when they discover one of the young men in their group is diagnosed with terminal cancer and will not live long enough to see the film in theaters the following May. This film expresses what it means to care about something so truly that you would do anything for it… what it means to be a fan.

This is a film for the fans, made by the fans. We were at Celebration in the rain. We waited in line for days for all of the special editions and prequels. And, making this movie is the most important thing in the world to us.

That being said, we need your help Fanboys and Fangirls! While distribution for the film is in place, this is an independent film and we are working on an independent budget. If there was ever a time to put your greatest geek skill to use, it is now. Do you have a knack for sculpting custom action figures? Or a special talent for making Astro-Mech Droids? Maybe you've always wanted to flaunt your Stormtrooper armor on screen? Whatever your Star Wars talent may be, we look to you, the fans, now to help us on this quest.

Albuquerque’s Mos Alba FanForce and their Dewback Ridge Squad division of the 501st have been extremely supportive in helping us make this film already and we thank them immensely.

We wanted everyone out there to know they are more than welcome to be a part of this project and we will announce specific dates and locations in the near future as to when we will need extras in costume for you to be in the film.

Email us at fanboysthemovie@gmail.com with any and all things you would be willing to offer this project and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks and may the force be with you all.

Best,

Kyle Newman Matthew Perniciaro

Yeah both you guys are correct- crap stories and investor buying BOTH contributed to the near-death of comics. As always there were other factors but those were the biggest. I managed a comic store from about '93-'98 which was the height of this painful time. My heart dropped everytime I sold 20 copies of a comic to some person who would say "This will put my kid through college!" Even if it meant the sale being lost I would still try to explain that it was quality and more importantly SCARCITY that made comics financially valuable. I personally find the value in comics to be the level of enjoyability I get from reading them... waiting to find out what happens next... great art and great story and the feelings you get when experiencing them as a whole. Too many kids and adults 'collected' comics as opposed to reading comics. Sigh. I used to tell these investors that if they REALLY wanted to increase their chances of the comic becoming valuable then they should buy 20 copies and DESTROY 19 of them. In fact the more that are destroyed the more 'valuable' the remaining ones become. I call this 'forced scarcity' but regretfully it never caught on.

I actually toy with the idea of someday opening a comic shop in the city where I now live which really doesn't have one. Those were good times for me, working in the comic shop. A place where geeks and non-geeks alike could hang out and discuss fun but useless stuff- much like we do here!

New forum software status - updated 1/4/2006
Time
Here's sort of an odd forum software question for you Jay-

On a few forums I participate in there are icons to the left of the thread names that show you, when logged in of course, whether or not YOU the poster have commented in that thread or not. I find that useful as many times threads will have similar names and its a nice 'at a glance' way to see if you have left a psot there without going to your own profile and looking at your post history. Does the new software have anything like that?

Thanks! GC

COIE is, to say the least an impressive feat in terms of artwork. The dialogue for me is a little dated, as well as the "clouds" denoting internal dialogue and thoughts. Not many doing that anymore.

COIE is one of my all-time favorite comic stories. I've read comics on and off since the mid 70s but haven't avidly collected since 1998- so I'll bite... just what ARE they doing now instead of thought balloons (ie the 'clouds') to show inner dialogue?
