Creators that ruined their own works

Are you ever happy about anything?

Maybe. But I made this thread as discussion, not some joke. If I wasn't treated with contempt all the time here I would stop being pessimistic. Its not my fault that people create something great, then slowly grow corrupt and ruin their own work and disembowel anything good that remained in the franchise. But that's life. We build up idols and they betray us in the end. If I can't talk about that, if I have to be some coked up happy freak that represses any negative thoughts that crop up, then I guess the world is a much sadder place than I thought. Lucas is just one person who has ruined his work. I could name dozens of others if I cared to.

Google working with Lucasfilm?
Time

A month or so ago, Zombie posted an article on savestarwars.com about the NFR preserving the original cut of SW. Soon after the article was published, the page was taken down and cached by Google. No one has mentioned the article since on any of these boards. So my question is: did LFL order Google to have the page taken down, or was it shut down by someone else?

Was George Lucas a trickster the whole time?

That's not what I meant! I really meant that other people think the only reason the SW trilogy was good was nostalgia. They look at the PT and see no difference between that and the OT. That is not my opinion, and I wouldn't say I was burned out from watching the OT too many times.

I am afraid that when the last 3D conversion occurs, this view may become the general view of the originals, and their critical stature would be gone.

Is where we begin to use the phrase 'George Lucas unraped my childhood'.  Or is the official sanctioned phrase now 'George Lucas unraped my adulthood.'  'Lucasfilm unraped my personhood'.  Admiral Ackbar unraped my trap?

More like the OT is no longer the great films they once were, or what PT defenders say about the OT.

On a different note, I have three questions regarding my original post that no one has addressed:

Is it possible the GL cheated his way through USC? (unlikely)

Did GL show sociopathic behavior as a child? (up in the air)

Is the stature of the OT irreparable damaged by a new generation of critics who grew up with the PT and new knowledge of Lucas, and/or saw the OT in a new light? (maybe)

This last question is more important, because we actually might be the only people left who like SW anymore.

I'm just upset that Lucas cannot do something so simple as restore the OOT. If you don't like my jackass, debbie downer comments, then fuck off. At least I'm consistent in my thoughts, which most politicians aren't.

Let me say that in the 15 years I have been a SW fan, I have never loved GL. To me, he is the man who has destroyed everything sacred about the star wars trilogy. I even tried to like the prequels, rationalizing that  this would be how everyone in SW got to where they were, or the second half of a great mythology. But we all know that is what has not happened, it only destroyed his reputation as an "auteur filmmaker." I am firmly convinced that he was never a good filmmaker, and absolutely nothing associated with what's good about SW is even connected to him. And his dedication in making the OOT lost films and replacing it with some counterfeit six-film saga that's really less than six months old, that is why I feel that Lucas has nothing but contempt for his fans, and that was what he had always felt since he shot the first film back in 1976.

Watch your language, go outside, and get some fresh air, okay?

I was expecting a little sympathy here. But I'll try to tone down the language anyways.

I have a question that has been going around in my mind: Did GL create SW just to destroy it over the course of 20+ years, tricking millions into loving a franchise, and them pushing them into misery with the SE and the prequels?

I think that Lucas always wanted to destroy the originals, but decided to wait over the course of 20 years in order to bring people into the SW tent, then withdraw the originals and replace them with PTSE as we know it today. Something this sinister could have come from Lucas. And with the certainty of losing the OOT in all but fan preservations, I think that Lucas was a fraud the whole time, probably cheated his way through USC, made people believe he was a genius when he was not, and then make others miserable and getting away with it because he is a billionaire (and probably the least deserving one in history). I am firmly convinced he has no soul and probably showed sociopathic behavior as a child.

Disturbing... I think the only one showing signs of sociopathic behavoir here is unfortunately yourself. I don't post here as often as I'd like like due to health issues, but I read the forums when I can. It's evident from what I've read that you're absolutely obsessed with George Lucas as someone who's evil. Who on earth would create a grand plan to create a film then destroy it BY DESIGN, just to piss people off because Lucas 'has no soul' and wanted to push 'fans into misery'?!!! Listen to yourself! Absolute clap-trap and it's getting kind of annoying reading it to be honest! Sorry but posts like these DO give fans a bad name. Geez I actually feel sorry for Lucas right now after reading this nonsense!!!

George Lucas is not a rational person; irrational people can do something as nonsensical as destroy a film by design because I think the GL has a vendetta against other people. I cannot understand why GL refuses to release/restore the OOT time and time again, has contempt for the very same people that have made him a billionaire many times over, or why he keeps changing the films every couple of years with nonsensical additions. There isn't even a print of the original films in the library of congress anymore, despite ANH and ESB being listed in the national film registry. It seems he wants to let the originals rot.

Did he tell you that? Can you honestly say to me that the man behind the prequel trilogy, the man who considers filmmaking just shooting in front of a blue screen with two cameras, as a sincere filmmaker? I want you to watch thx and American grafitti, then the prequels, and tell me the difference. The short answer is that there is none.

He wants to destroy the theatrical cuts of star wars, empire, and Jedi. That's why we're here.

Cracked.com just doesn't get it...

Yeah, that's pretty true. I see cracked less a a humor site and more of an public consensus site. I remember a recent article about star trek vs star wars, and the star wars part included a response to the special editions: "at least we can kill ourselves"

The public is pretty much turning against SW now, and fewer care that the OOT is being lost. Sorry guys, the people on this website (and maybe some film director's comments) are the only ones who care about the OOT anymore. Its status as a lost film is becoming more and more inevitable every day.

And don't say someone will find film elements for the OOT. They don't exist, even if you think they do.

Why should we pick only two? Every single film except the SW films allows you to have all three options. But no, GL is such a psychotic monster that he forces you to choose between official and presentable. That is fucking unjust and no person should have to subject themselves to GL's pretzel logic.

Okay, let's try out this prioritization test.  Which of these statements to you feel the most/least sympathy for, or are you equal on all three?

1) Boycott the official BD's, because they aren't the OOT.

2) Boycott the GOUT discs, because they aren't presentable.

3) Boycott fan preservations, because they aren't official.

My guess is, perfectly justifiable indignation aside, you're already well on the road to resolving this issue to your own personal satisfaction.

I would boycott the BDs, because the OOT is not on there (which should be a no brainer). If there was a good fan preservation on Blu, I would probably get it; but has anyone made one. The GOUT is not presentable, yes, but they will have to do. But that's not the point.

The problem is Lucas. That is why I am so angry and melodramatic here, because he is an untalented hack who took credit from others, and is arrogant to the point that we have to resort to fan preservations to see the originals. I should be able to get the OOT at my local BestBuy or Amazon right now, like every single film ever made since 1895. The SW trilogy are the only films we don't have legally, because of one man's psychosis.

Well, Lucas is still alive and making money, and Katie is being groomed to take over her father's position. We are still no closer to getting the OOT in an official and presentable release than we were 10 years ago, so getting over it is not really an option right now.

1) OOT

2) Official

3) Presentable

Pick any 2.  I will be perfectly satisfied with 1 & 3.  I'm honestly not sure what option 2 gets you, so perhaps you may someday determine it's not that important to you either.
