What is Luke's goal in ROTJ?
Time

Answer: the script was written in one draft by George Lucas weeks before shooting. Luke had to rescue Han because Lucas didn't want his most marketable character out of the third movie (they were going to rescue Han anyways at the end of ESB). Luke had to fight Vader and the Empereor again to tie everything in a neat bow because Lucas didnt want to make any more Star Wars movies; he wanted to shift his focus on Howard the Duck and Ewok merchandise.

What if TFA is awful?
Time

I've been warning about TFA being possibly bad, because we've been burned before with the prequels. Hopefully history won't repeat itself, but this feels like the months just before Episode I. Plus there's the factor of Disney reviving the series to capitalize on the acquisition of the IP in the first place, but the Marvel movies were good, right?

When did you realize the Prequels sucked?

When I realised they wasted Brian Blessed's talent in TPM. ...that took a while though.

Or, if it qualifies, when they changed the names of the original movies from just "Star Wars" to "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope", etc. ...you can't do that! You can't just DO that!...

I didn't know that Brian Blessed voiced Boss Nass; I thought he would be that blue guy that stands next to the chancellor.

Star Wars theatrical versions not coming in 2015

There are plenty of people elsewhere who reject the SE's. It's not just us. I've seen comments on the HTF and similar sentiments on Twitter.

That still doesn't mean the OOT will be released anytime in the near future. I've been here for nearly ten years and we are in the same situation as it was back then. The SE still remain the only versions available, and when the GOUT was finally released, the originals were regarded as "bonus features" and not even up to the video standards of the time. That was probably the VERY LAST TIME they will ever be commercially available. And is there any film that deserves a proper release more badly than Star Wars?

The only version that will exist are the 2011 versions

I'm surprised to be saying this to you, but you are not being nearly pessimistic enough.  The 4K thread contains some pretty strong evidence that we'll see yet another variation of the Special Editions, based on a 4K 97SE scan, but with changes piled on top of that.  The hydra still has a few heads left.

Well what changes could they make without George Lucas? Will Disney now put in bullshit changes of their own every seven years until the end of time? Then we have lost forever, straight into the dustbin of history. What a fucking horrible time to be a SW fan; we're drifting further and further away from the originals. Disney is now worse than Lucas.

Will the theatrical version ever see an official release? I think in ten years we will still be complaining about the originals still not being available on Blu-Ray or whatever format takes its place by then. The only version that will exist are the 2011 versions, and Disney will certainly purge any fan preservations by this point, because of Steamboat Willie.

the only option is to stage a protest in front of the Disney, Fox, and Lucasfilm headquarters until they release the originals. Maybe even occupy the Capitol to protest the currently ludicrous copyright laws that are destroying creativity right now. We've gone nearly twenty years without the OOT, and I'm not gonna spend another 20 without them.

They only released the GOUT in the first place because Lucas wanted to stop the bootleg market. Maybe Disney will do the same thing down the road, or they could double down and shut down the fan preservations on the grounds of copyright infringement. Lucas deliberately sold the franchise to Disney because he knew they were draconian when it comes to copyright laws, and was just another way to suppress the bootleg market again.

If you released the originals in the first place, Lucas, there would be no bootleg market for you to worry about.

Just think, if Walt Disney was not bitter about losing the rights to Oswald the Rabbit, we could be enjoying the OOT right now as a legitimate release.

Copyright. Thanks to the Walt Disney Company it's the author's lifetime plus 70 years. Every time Steamboat Willie nears the expiration of its copyright Disney changes the law to avert this event. If copyright laws did not have this absurdly long time period the OT would have gone into public domain before the SE was released, and we would have the originals as they were.
