Before we move away from Indiana Jones I must confess that I don’t consider Raiders the masterpiece everyone makes it out to be. Sure, it’s a great homage to action adventure movie serials and the adventure pulp novels of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century featuring rugged men exploring exotic faraway locales, but for whatever reason it doesn’t thrill me as much as Temple of Doom does.

As for Willie Scott, I’ve never had any issues with her being a shallow airhead, plus I always have found her miles ahead of Marion Raven in the looks department (yes I know, it’s shallow as hell).

Frankly, apart from Temple, I am largely indifferent to the Indiana Jones movies.

Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I have enjoyed the hell out of the Transformers movies, expect for Age of Extinction which I found to be merely OK, and yes, I genuinely enjoyed The Last Knight.

As for Bay’s filmography outside of Transformers, I’ve yet to see a Michael Bay movie I didn’t like, Pearl Harbor is the only one I have never seen.

Yes, I’m a Michael Bay fan and I’m not ashamed of it. Many will probably think I suffer from some kind of mental handicap for saying it.

I posted this earlier on this thread but I feel like asking again.

Could someone please explain the reason for all the vitriol aimed at Michael Bay, particularly his Transformers movies? I’ve personally enjoyed all of them, yet everywhere I look his movies are treated like crimes against humanity or something.

Now that you’re bringing up Batman and Robin, here’s my unpopular opinion regarding said movie: I have no issues whatsoever with Batman and Robin. In fact Batman Returns and Batman Forever are my favourites out of the Burton/Schumacher era.

Finally, even as a little kid I was never sold on Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

There are two movie directors whose flicks are seemingly loved by everyone but which I personally find to be just OK.

Guillermo del Toro: I’ve seen most of his movies and so far I’ve only been mildly entertained, in fact the only one I have truly enjoyed is the one he has publicly disowned: Mimic.

Denis Villeneuve: His movies are no doubt very well made, but I feel like something is missing. In terms of set design and colour timing his movies look so sterile and lifeless.

I feel like if they’re gonna have sex scenes they should at least commit and make it full-on porn. The way I see it, that way they would serve as the perfect culmination of a compelling relationship.

I have this idea of having a shared fictional universe in which I hire actual pornographic actresses who would feature in the mainline continuity as supporting characters and later have a porn distributor following on their sexual adventures. It would render a porn parody unnecessary.

Slapstick isn’t funny. It’s entertaining though.

Romance is stupid and unnecessary in movies unless it is crucial to the plot. (Is this unpopular?)

I don’t like most musical films. They’re just too cheerful and romanticises a historic era sometimes, and probably most appeal to middle aged mums. However, there are some musicals I do genuinely do enjoy.

Fan-service is god-awful bollocks and ruins the aesthetic of a film other than to please horny teenagers. That ruins a lot of anime. Please, young-adult oriented anime where the female characters aren’t sexualised and look like a bug-eyed Disney character please?

I’m bloody tired of Every. Single. Fantasy. Story… taking place in a world modelled after medieval Europe. Like, how about a world modelled after imperial Asia, or… ancient Mesopotamia. Or, god forbid, pre-contact America?! Just stop trying to be like Tolkien.

What the flying fuck are the good plot advancing reasons for sex scenes other than to please the bloody audience?!

So far no one has posted an unpopular opinion regarding books, so let me be the first to take the plunge.

I started reading the Malazan books based on all the enthusiastic praise people were giving them online, and have read both the main series of books by Steven Erikson and the complementary Novels of the Malazan Empire by Ian Cameron Esslemont.

Overall I found the books to be alright, but nowhere near the masterpiece of modern literature everyone claims them to be. There’s a lot to like, but there’s also a lot that I didn’t like, for instance characters and/or storylines that are left unresolved, characters who disappear from the story only to return with absolutely no explanation as to what they’ve been up to, stuff that that is hinted at but never pans out, etc.

Multiplayer-only games have no appeal to me. I prefer single player offline games.

+1

I’ve been away from the console and computer games landscape for nearly a decade now, so I might be wrong, but I fear Single-Player games are becoming a niche market.

OK, just let me be clear. There’s a difference between having no issues with something and thinking it’s wonderful, they’re not one and the same.

IDK, ever since I first saw TPM I was never bothered by Jar Jar Binks, and whenever I rewatch the movie he still doesn’t bother me. I get how he gets under people’s skin, but what truly puzzles me is the white hot outrage around the character.

I hope I’ve made myself clear this time around.

Did a quick page flip to skim for The Dark Knight in case it was already mentioned because it felt like a cliche to say it by now but TDK is massively overrated.*

EDIT: *adding the obvious to say Heath Ledger did a great job and that overrated doesn’t mean total ass

I find myself enjoying The Dark Knight Rises a lot more than TDK. In fact TDKR is my favourite of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The final season of Game of Thrones generated a lot of backlash, but personally I had no issues with it. I remember reading that the last three seasons were going to be a general idea of how the story would unfold in the books rather than a direct adaptation.

To me, it is fanfiction. The first four seasons I’d rate an overall 8/10, but 7 and 8 would get a 6/10. So I, too, don’t hate it like many others. A bit disappointed, I guess, but I don’t feel the hatred many others felt, and this is coming from somebody who is a huge fan of the book series.

Honestly, what did everybody expect from these later seasons anyways? Most of the best parts from the show were lifted directly from the books. Did people really expect that once Dave and Dan ran out of source material that they’d come up with stuff as good as what George wrote? Get real.

Still, the last few seasons were MOSTLY pretty solid, but I’m still eagerly awaiting on George to deliver the REAL story.

Yeah. In fact I’m one of those fans of the series that have chosen to wait until the last two ASoIaF books are published to start reading the book series.

My dad loves it, and he’s really into sci-fi. Do you like sci-fi usually? And no, Star Wars doesn’t count. I mean like Star Trek or Asimov.

Yes, I do like science fiction.

Off the top of my head, here’s the sci-fi movies I love:

  • 2001: A Space Odissey
  • 12 Monkeys
  • Blade Runner
  • Alien
  • Interstellar
  • The Skin I live in (yes, I consider it a sci-fi movie)
  • Event Horizon (IMO a deeper movie than people give it credit for).

And no, I’ve never considered Star Wars science fiction, even as a little kid.

Westworld simply doesn’t click with me.

I don’t know why punk rock music is so popular. It’s all the same tempo, same notes, same chords, and in the case of the Sex Pistols in particular, they only had the most basic understanding of how to play musical instruments.

Seriously, why is there so much hype around such a rudimentary type of music?

This is unpopular?

Seriously, though — mainstream hip hop’s been hot garbage since at least the mid '90s.

I can only listen to and enjoy rap music from the 1980s and early 1990s. Anything after that is just 90% bragging about being a gangster.
