3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

I'm honestly hoping they don't release all the 3D versions of the OT before Episode 7, and I'd be surprised if they did.  Episode 2 and 3 in 3D being right next to each other isn't surprising since both have so much digital elements that are already seperate, especially 3.  just think how amazing the opening battle will bein 3D, regardless of it being not so great in almost every other factor.  But for the OT, they don't have many digital, or atleast seperate, elements. They have to convert lots from scratch.  (wondering if they'll apply DNR to the footage...) Having them speed up the process would be horrible to the 3D experience.

Anyhow, I still hope they are planning to rerelease the originals.  I so badly want to see these movies in the theatres as I missed out previous chances.

Well, after a long time, I've decided to start work on individual edits of the prequels.  My goal is this is create really good versions of the films without having to butcher the films to the point of making it not Star Wars length like previous edits have done.  I will acheive this using new music, drastic rearragement, and some new vfx to acheive certain edits.

Right now I am in the rough stages of my version of Episode II: The Seperatist Rise. My goals are very similar to other edits, apart from:

  • More Deleted Scenes added (hugely improved HD quality, shhh...)
  • Less cut (only bad dialogue and stupity cut)
  • New arragement (Opening with Kamino, etc.)
  • Lots of new music from Clone Wars, The Old Republic, etc.

Preview Clips:

Fireplace Scene: https://vimeo.com/51874671 (audio cuts still being worked on)

Obi-Jango Fight Scene: https://vimeo.com/52621993 (new soundtrack only.  cues still being modified.  movie audio still being processed)

Opening Shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-Zaghjtw4A (still being worked on)

Open on Kamino? Whatttt....how will that work with the narrative?

It will be explained in the new crawl that the jedi council secretly has sought out a new srmy of clones for the republic.  There are drastic narrative changes with how the assasination plot is handled.  The "border dispute" line Mace Windu comments on is used as a cover for Obi-Wan.  He later returns to Kamino after discovering Jango is behind the assasination attempt on Padme.  Don't worry, I've outlined the whole thing.

Well while we wait, I've uploaded a few samples to 4shared. I think you have to sign up for a free account to see them, but here's the link:

Let me know what you think!

Those were amazing!  You beat Hayden by a million.  Plus, you sound a lot like Matt Lanter, so that's good.  I really am surprised how the bad dailogue sounded far more natural and likeable.

Theres no contract lol so as long as I'm credited and kept updated with the projects my voice work is used in, I think it's fair to share. I'll be uploading samples in a few hours; would anyone like me to upload samples from certain scenes specifically? These can be either from Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith.

Cool, that you can upload clips.  I was planning to use these dubs in my edits.  It would be cool to hear stuff from the worst scenes from the films, like the fireplace scene or the packing scene.

Plus, did you and trooperman plan to dub all the usable deleted scenes (DVD and Bluray) too?  I know those scenes mean a lot to editors here, and are quite often equal quality to those in the films.

I don't believe that the fireplace-scene can be saved with any editing. It's horrible in every way and the worst scene in AOtC, maybe in the whole PT. I squirm in shared sense of shame every time I see it.

I think that thing is just best cutted. AOTC is the longest of the films and if you are incorporating deleted scenes you still have plenty of running time. Also the info in that scene is somewhat communicated in other scenes so it's not irreplaceable.

Have fun with the edit!

Yes, the fireplace scene was the worst scene in ATOC, but in addition to the dialogue cut, I have moved the scene earlier to their arrival.  Almost every scene between the two have been shifted around to create a more natural romance, one that progesses from simple looks and flurting to kissing and implied sleeping together.  Anakin and Padme eating dinner probably won't even show right before the fireplace scene.

I understand many people perfer not to have the scene, however this scene and the scene where Anakin and Padme first meet again, both have ironic lines: "...you'll always be that little boy on tatooine" and "It would destroy us".  They both humor and foresight respectively.

it's really too bad there weren't scenes with them acting like Han and Leia.

Episode II Rough Overview:

The film starts directly with Anakin and Padme going to save Obi-Wan (preview to come soon).  I've edited this scene to feel like an opening (myseterious, no talking).  I delete the entire Droid Factory sequence (because of the stupidity and that it would make the new opening not feel like an opening) and replace it with the two deleted scenes, Padme swaying Dooku and Anakin and Padme on trial.  I delete there love but leave a lighthearted friendship they've had developing between TPM and ATOC, which grows naturally into their love.  The arena scene ends with yoda and the rest of the jedi saving them.  The "clones" are shown, however in this version the clone armor is just Republic armor the clones will just put on since they work for the Republic.  What then follows is a hugely revised version of what used to be the opening.  Padme has been in danger for a while and the new attempt is the final reason to convince them to go to Naboo.  The clone army has been being made by the order of the Jedi council for years, waiting for it to be approved.  Obi-Wan goes to check on the clones and discovers the assasin was Jango Fett and the basis for the clones.  The dark side had clouded the jedi from knowing this.  The narrative for the most part plays out the same, but when Obi finds out they need more help to defeat the new order of battle droids, they finally succeed in getting the clones and set up for attack with the others.  The movie ends the same for the most part.

I'm probably forgetting some details, so what I just said might sound weird.  But that's pretty much it.  Lots of colour correction and rescoring will be done to support the new narrative.  And believe me, the story arcs much better than the original version.

Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)
Time

After disscusing it with darth_ender, I'd like to announce I will take over this project, atleast for the moment, to continue the concepting of this edit.  I understand everyone who has been involved are very busy (myself, included).  However, if we can continue contributing designs and can make a thorough outline, it will be easier to do by the time real work starts, which could be a goal to start in say 2 years.  I like what we've all suggested and I'm sure all of us would love to see a more radical approach to ROTJ.

Let's Go!

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

This is true. However, I personally can't stand Vegas as an editor. I'm a Adobe Premiere person. I would use the project files for reference and restart in Premiere. For me it's just a smoother ride.

But having those files would help tremendously!

You can import the vegas project files into Premiere after redirecting the files in Vegas.  However if any transitons were applied, they won't appear.

Wow. Haven't thought about this for a long time.  I do miss it sometimes but I don't even have a pc I could edit anything on anymore.  Although I do still have all the vegas project files and rough cuts from reborn on a hard drive boxed up in the closet. :)

I would really love to take a look at those files! I'm sure that would be very difficult.

Vegas let's you redirect the files.  If you ripped the movies the same way, you could have Vegas use those files instead, reconstructing the rough cuts.  So you'd only need the project files.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

Ok. I've been kicking this idea around for years. I got it by watching a lot of the big famous "epic" movies. Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia etc. People throw that term around a lot, but I was thinking about what it is. Those movies are very long, but more importantly, they take place over a long period of time. The jump forward in time multiple times without much warning or explanation. I started wondering about Star Wars in that way. What it would be like. I settled on 3 hrs and 59 minutes, because at some point its cheating. I mean how long is a "movie" before it becomes something else. There are almost ZERO mainstream movies that ever hit 4 hrs. GWTW, LoArabia, Ben Hur, the Ten Commandments etc. Are all in the 3:30 to 3:50 range. The key for me is this. Im not doing it because I think its better this way. I don't believe that at all. Its just a fun puzzle to try to figure out. For that reason I am not going to go the Godfather II or Once Upon a time in America route. Yes, I think a very good movie could be made with the OT as the main story and 30 to 45 minutes of prequel flashbacks. Im just not trying to do that here. I also am not trying to "correct" anything here. This is an OT board and I get that, but Im a full Saga fan. I do have my issues with the movies but Im not doing that here. I'm keeping Jar Jar Binks, and Im cutting a huge chunk of Return of the Jedi. Its just part of completing the puzzle. Some things I have: Opening shot is now the Federation invasion ships landing. (will explain in the crawl that the Jedi were betrayed and escaped by stowing away) First "person" seen is Jar Jar. Using the shot of him coming up from the lake that takes place later. Then it cuts to him almost getting run over. Its a good intro and it fits with all the lowly creatures vs. sophisticated society stuff that runs through the whole thing. Jar Jar takes them directly to Theed where they escape. Shorten Pod Race to 1 lap. Shorten battle to little more than the lightsaber fight. Clones is tough. There is a ton of stuff that can be cut, but also there is a ton of little expositional things that need to stay. I'll cut or move the fight with Dooku to before the battle. Using the battle as the seque to Sith. Montage of scenes from Geonosis and other battles from Sith playing right into the opening space battle. In the OT, I want to make it so there is just one death star. I plan to have the death star escape be the end of ANH. However, the problem is, I don't want to lose Luke's flying part of it. Also its tricky to do since the appearance of the death stars are so different. In Empire. I did one cool thing little thing. When the Falcon escapes Hoth I cut right to the part where they attack and then hide on the back. Then after they "float away" I cut in the scenes onboard scenes that take place in the cave. The other tricky part is how to either avoid Han being frozen or how to rescue him quicker, I'd really like to lose all of the first part of Return of the Jedi, but Im not sure how to just yet. Its hard and probably not totally doable, but its a fun exercise nonetheless.

I'd be really interested to see how it turns out.  Certainly don't be afraid to make hugely radical narative changes, such as ones I'm laying out for my Skywalker duology (trilogy, if possible), which will most likely have each movie 3 hours long.

Team Adywan are removing the PT music from AR:SE last time I checked.

But the the "Here They Come" strike on the soundtrack of every current version of Return Of The Jedi would indicate a swarm of TIE fighters about to shoot up Jabba's sail barge going by your line of reasoning (I'd remove that too).

It will be an option according to this:

http://swrevisited.wordpress.com/2011/04/09/ars-details/

And honestly, I never understood what was so wrong about R2's rockets.  The only reason people don't like it, in my opininon, is because of how bad the PT is.  Someway that transfers over to every PT releated element or fx, which most of the time are as good as the OT.
