Maybe someone reported it?

So even if we put a password to protect it, it could still be reported. For all we know, someone from Lucasfilm is on this site...well probably not. But I have some conspiracy theories on who it could be. ;)

Help Wanted: The Prequel Edit Problem - remove the music & sound effects without removing the dialogue...
Time

Darth Lars said:

If you have access to multiple language tracks with identical music then it should theoretically be possible to filter out what matches between the tracks -- which would be the music. However, some speech may be lost where the frequency of the music overlaps with the speech and some of the music may remain because of audio compression artifacts. The process should improve the more language tracks you use. I think that this would be better than a typical voice-removal filter.

I don't know if there is a software package that allows you to do this ...

Analysis should be done in some frequency domain, and preferably according to the transform used by the codec ... if the tracks used the same codec, which I don't think that they do.

Am I correct in that for all movies, the English track is in DTS-HD (lossless) and that the others are either in DTS 5.1 or in Dolby Digital 5.1 ? The DTS-HD could be transformed into the frequency domain of any of the other. I have not checked, but I doubt that DTS and Dolby Digital would use the same transforms.

Hmm...that's something I didn't think of there. Theoretically it sounds completely possible, I'm just not sure where there would be an analysis tool to do that. I'll look into that some more.

Yes, 99% of blurays all have lossless main tracks, which are either DTS-HD, Dolby True HD, or LPCM. Today there are more lossless sub tracks for spanish and french though too, but mostly they are DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1. You can use the tracks as frequency domain no matter if lossless or not.

But here's the issue: New English 6.1 mix, Old Spanish, etc. 5.1 mixes

This software comes out soon?

Do you mean that sarcastically?

If not, then yeah the new Adobe stuff comes out May or June I think.

Otherwise, I do remember the other tool. I've tried the trial version (which is fully featured, you just can't export) and it can work miracles. I or someone else could test it out on a scene or two. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/

This Removal of frequencies will only work providing what you are trying to remove does not clash with what you are trying to keep.

If the Dialogue is at the same frequency as a piece of background music then you have no chance of removing it.

The example shown in that video is fine because the police siren is nowhere near the frequency of the dialogue, but a full orchestral score elements of it will be at the same frequency as the dialogue so this won't fix the problem unless you have separate audio tracks.

I know that is an issue, but generally using the spectral analyze you can make more detailed selections. Unless, there something I don't know of, frequency removal is the only way through mono content assuming you are working only with the center channel.

It should be possible though since our brains can seperate the dialogue, music and sound effects from eachother. We just need to figure out how that works software wise.

You might be able to use spectral sound removal which will be built in to the next version of Adobe Audition. It might take a lot of time, but maybe with this it could become possible.

The feature is shown in the first 6 minutes of the video.

I know there are also some plugins that can do a similar thing at the moment, but if anyone has Creative Cloud (like me) you wouldn't have to pay anything more.

2012: None, actual hard drive failure

I always thought it was coincidence that happened on April 1st, but my laptop's hard drive failed completely today (didn't backup either). I guess it's not that uncommon for hard drives to go out on April Fool's Day.

Okay, so I've been taking the comments about masking and i've figured out that I'll certainly do that for a LOT of scenes. Luckily since I still keep the same background, the rotoscoping is generally easy. This allows that previous speeder chase image possible. The area of Coruscant will be mostly gray with colors from the OT only, but at the same time have important things such as skin tones and the fire intact.

I'll post some new comparison images that involved roto work soon.

A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation

Well, seems like that "Bonus content" is pretty much nothing.

http://www.theforce.net/topstory/story/Report_TCW_Bonus_Content_To_Be_Two_Story_Arcs_150831.asp

I can not express with words how much more angry this made me. WHAT HAPPENS TO MAUL?! AND DON"T YOU DARE TELL ME HE'S IN EPISODE 7!

And really who care about the bounty hunters, except for Boba Fett. They're cool characters, but it isn't what's needed to end this series. Cad Bane And Aurra Sing make no difference.

At the least I hope the clone arc shows the fate of Rex (or any of the other important clone people I'm forgetting about).

Episode 7 better be worth it.

Actually I retract my previous comment. The grain is actually the proper amount, but since there is a high amount of highlights in the picture. The grain stands out more. I think I need to reduce the amount of grain specifically applied to the highlights of the image. This is true because the Geonosis image has grain applied to it under the same settings.

Agreed that the grain might be a bit much for the moment. Another comment: I like the direction you're going, but I feel like using the blu-ray as the comparison point is skewing my perception. Can you possibly provide the corresponding DVD caps as well? Seeing the pre-teal tint version of the film would probably help people comment on what's been done.

Hmm, that might be a good idea. I could try to show some shots with the corresponding DVD screenshots maybe. The grain i'm getting figured out. I actually just realized I had forgetten to change the grain size parameters before rendering out of AE, which is why it looks like too much.

Personally I think that might be too much grain, hard to say how it would look until it's in motion though. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of grain, I kind of consider it a drawback of film (I know in my own still photos it drives me crazy when a shot is really grainy, that's why I used to always use low speed film).

Yes, I've been thinking the grain is a bit much at the moment. I'm working on getting it to be smaller and more fine (maybe upscaling everything to 4k, then adding grain, and then downscaling back to 1080p?). I also might add some sharpening before the layer of grain. The PT lacks details and has a horrible digitally softened look due to the crappy prototype HD cameras they were shot on. Even though TPM was mostly shot on 35mm, the horrible DNR ruins it. If I can get the sharpening and grain just right, the picture will appear more filmic and to have much more detail.

Apparently canceled, but the episodes already in production will be released at some point. However apparently, we'll get a new Clone Wars like show.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Dear God, I hope this is not true!

As Obi Wan once said, "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

http://www.examiner.com/article/it-seems-as-though-the-clone-wars-is-done

Well, hopefully they atleast release Season 6, I'd be fine with ending it there, but to leave cliffhangers from Season 5 is not acceptable.

Anyhow, if this is true this might affect the usability of certain arcs like Maul for a film.

When are you planning to release the trailer?

within the next month

Brilliant.

How far through the color correction do you think you are?

It's really mostly testing process still. I don't want to do the truly start the process until I know what I will do with every enviorment and film. As soon as that is done, it will be a swift process. For the most part, the colouring tests are done and am soon aproaching building the grain structure and filmic curve adjustments.

All the materials will be released by Fall 2013 at the latest. BTW, anyone know what the best way to host the files, since each film will have more or less 50gb of content?

Hey, any chance for a video or at least more shots soon ? I'm very interested how this turns out. The Prequels are horrible movies but they do have the occasional great scene, sometimes held back only by too obvious CGI and that "plastic" feeling. I hope that the 35mm treatment can cure those issues. ;)

Best luck, looking forward to more updates!

You'll be able to see modified footage in the trailer for my Episode 2 edit.
