Sounds like we need to get you set up with SSDs in a 10 core multiprocessor server setup. :-)

haha, it's just photoshop's render video isn't nearly as fast as AE's renderer, probably because photoshop normally isn't used with videos, so Adobe is not as focused on the technology.  For certain though, I couldn't output images as good as they are now (though none of them are final final yet) without using photoshop.

EDIT: just started googling sbout photoshop's slow rendering issues and am finding some solutions.  :-)

Once again looks great. Any time scale on a release?

At the earliest, I'll hopefully have all the work done by the end of the year, however...

The rendering process I'm scared is going to take a long time since the processing is all done by seperating each film into scenes that can have the same filter settings that are all in lagarith avi format and are each processed through by speedgrade (I export a LUT to apply adjustments only possible in Speedgrade and apply it as a color lookup in photoshop after pre-grading color correction) and photoshop (used for pre-grading color correction, LUT applying, and special chromatic aberration fixes and grain addition process) which renders the video.  Right now one 4 minute clip currently takes a full day to render, though I'm looking into ways to reduce the time, without sacrificing quality.

So long answer short, I'm not entirely committing to a specific release date till I have a bit clearer picture of how the rendering process will go.

This has to be one of the worst shots in the entire PT.  It's all CGI crappiness and over contrasted digital ugliness.  There's major missing highlight detail and everything.  I started fixing that.  (note, I didn't do much of any color correction, there's weird colors still existent from the original that I didn't bother with here, since I'm still working on getting that film look, and the highlights a clipping a bit in the clouds too, along with the distant star destroyers loosing some detail.)

It's being shot on film similar to what was used in the OT.

This also makes my 35mm PT preservation work all the more important to finsih it and get it right.

So excited right now!

I tried the exact same thing you did a couple of years ago. It's not to hard to fix geonosis in photoshop frame by frame, but fixing the entire scene would take an unimaginable amount of work.

I guess it could be possible shot by shot, but even then I don't think this project is here for those kind of colors.  As long as I atleast fix red tint in the image, it's probably okay.

Hmmm. The video is really, really blue - there's no white at all, and everything looks blue-ish. Somehow, what used to be white is also blown-out looking, but it might have been blown-out in the original?

The still might not be a great color-reference...

It's not what I'm using for this project, I just wanted to see what the shot would look like in motion.

I was bored so I took one of Angel's old concepts and put it into motion.

This is not the theatrical cut, but is a rough cut of the way I want my arena sequence to flow.

It's a fascinating idea, but how are you going to address the fact that he would be missing a hand by this point?

The only way would be to remove his hand getting cut in Episode II and just leave it as a scar from battle during the clone wars between II and III.  Just like Anakin's unexplained scar on his face in III.

Unless, you could shoot new footage of course.

Aalenfae and I are trying to reach some sort of solution for the Tattooine sequences in AOTC, though it might be difficult to make it work. The general idea is to leave Tattooine for the end of the movie where clearly a timeleap is established.

Basically it would be implied that Anakin has returned to Tattooine before/has been in contact with his mother all these years, and he knows where she's living currently.

The conflict now would be duty vs feelings. Anakin would be dreaming all throughout the movie about his mother, however he constantly denies his emotions and keeps being attached to his misions. By the end of the movie, when released from assignment, he goes to Tattooine and finds out he was too late and Shmi is dead.

There are some things and mentions in the movie that can't be erased without major changes and reshooting. However, if reduced to the minimum, they pass from being key, to anecdotic.

That's certainly an interesting idea, I see how that could work with the existing footage.  Now, that you mention it, it might be a really good idea I could utilize in my edit...

This ^ is very exciting work! Not just switching up a couple of scenes but skillfully weaving seemingly disperate elements together in a bold new and cohesive way. Awesome job. Even in this rough demonstration I can see how everything is going to flow beautifully. You've got me hooked on this project now.

Couple of points...

The suitcase scene ranks as one of the worst in AOTC (Stiff competion I know) so I perhaps wouldn't open with it. However it's mericifully brief in your edit. There is nothing that can't be covered in the crawl. The next scene in the Theed palace has more of a spark.

You could also open with Obi-Wan listening in on Dooku's plan, then cut to Padme talking with the Queen on Naboo. Just an option.

After the geonosis opening are you going to move to the assassination/bombing on Coruscant? and is Padme going to be pro-army in this edit? You could recut this scene to have her proposing an Army after witnessing what Dooku is up to on Geonosis...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQsaG7Hz27o

The suitcase scene is one of the worst scenes I know, but to keep a better flow I think it is really necessary to keep there.  Since I am editing a new reorganized plot, I really have to make sure scenes aren't too awkwardly short, otherwise it will feel like an edit.  That's not to say I'm keeping the really bad stuff.  Plus, it explains why you now see Padme as a senator.  In it's original location, the dialogue was pointless since you knew Padme was a senator and saw her act as one.  Here, it makes her being a senator actually make sense and not be completely random.  Plus, I think it better sells off the whole Anakin/Padme friendship thing.

Obi-Wan listening in on Dooku's plan and seeing the droid factory is utilized at a latter stage in the film.  It's what's used to bring them back to Geonosis for the final battle.

The assassination/bombing plot does continue after the geonosis, though I'm not sure whether to keep the bombing aspect or not.  In V3, the bombing is still in the opening, and my current progress has it soon after Geonosis.  Though, I'm playing with the idea of not having the bombing and just the creepy bug thing.

You discovered my plan, yes I actually am re-edting the film and specifically that scene to make her pro-army, which is the only way to have that element tied up.

Here's my alternate V2 opening rough cut, there are many changes from V1, a longer V3 is also in the works, so I can choose which one to use.

This is a very rough cut of the first few minutes of my Episode II edit. It has some technical issues still and is missing a scene yet to be inserted.

It does have the filmic adjustments, but no color correction, grain, or slight technicolor emulation has been added.

Changes:

-Now starts with scenes explaining the current atmosphere of the republic, the want for a new clone army, as the current army is low in numbers.

-supports new plot of the film

-Anakin and Padme have been friends for a while. They know each other well, and have worked together before. This supports a natural progression towards their love.

-Dooku has captured Obi-Wan at the beginning, establishing him as the "bad guy" from the start. This edit will even show Dooku more consistently throughout the film.

-Starting here, the film begins much more exciting and in a very similar way to ROTJ.

- references to plot elements that have been completely changed in the edit have been eliminated.

-several changes have been made from V1, this version is longer and contains new exposition.
