Though it may not be exactly along the lines of what you are looking for, I find the dark lettering unappealing and would prefer a closer yellow to what was used in the OT. Not sure you can do that with existing colors without too much manipulation.

Well, actually I might just turn off the film filters during the titles, but I would assume a print would be the inherit the same filmic look throughout, unless the version they printed to film was a little different, to compensate for the color changes.

I am very happy to hear you are going with both versions. The screenshot looks splendid. :)
I can't wait to see watch all three the way I remember them looking back in theaters in 1999, 2002 and 2005 respectively.

Will you be going with the theatrical cuts or the Blu-Ray releases? The reason I ask is because I really can't wrap my head around the Blu-Ray edit to Dooku's escape in AOTC. It had the perfect flow until 2011. On the same page I feel Shmi's tortured cries for help really enhanced Anakin's nightmare scene.

Thanks, I'm sure some will prefer that first version.

In terms of the edit, I've been debating about restoring the theatrical edits for TPM and ATOC.  The point of this project in the first place however, was to provide a replacement source for other fanedits, but I could very well make seperate edits to restore the original theatrical versions of TPM and ATOC, if so desired.

Hope you dont think I was dissing your project on my last comment about the other Obi picture it just didnt look like film to me. I'm really looking forward to seeing your final edit.

I love your work early on with AOTC I think it was when you were also adding the look of it through an anamorphic lens set up. Always looks more celluloidy:-) to me.

No, I understand what you were saying.  I think I was putting more filtering on the footage than it could handle with the crappy Bluray compression.  I could probably do so much more if I had access to Lucasfilm's uncompressed files.

The one thing I'm wondering: You said that ROTS is almost ready as theatralic version. I guess that means you won't change the depth of field (not sure if that's the correct expression) for that release?

No for this first release set I would not be doing such.  It's solely designed to create a higher quality film version of the original without any radical alterations to the image.

So I'm thinking about releasing two versions: an oldified film version (like I have been working on most recently) and the closest recreation of what a 35mm theatre print would have looked like in 4K.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/78535  (comparison is in between untouched 1080p image and 4K upscaled w. filmic adjustments)

It would be the best of both worlds, one that keeps relatively pure to the original theatrical look, but having a 35mm appearance, and one that aims to look the same age or older than the OT film look.  ROTS is already complete for its theatrical print recreation.  I went through a lot of research to get the movie to have the same look as the film stocks it was printed on for movie theatres.

He came up with the outline for VII-IX and then handed everything over to Kennedy.

And even then, I thought I remember hearing from a rumor a while back, that Michael Arndt, while he was kicked off the Star Wars 7 script, he did a lot of changes to the story treatment involving the overall sequel trilogy, so that it further differed from Lucas' vision (probably for the better).

The title of this thread looks too much like "WARNING: HEROIN". Kinda unnerving LOL

J.J. cracks me up. And Mark is looking good! Who's the fellow next to him dressed like George? ;)

It's this guy, creator of that ^, whoever he is and whatever that is.

Is it bad that I actually watch that show?

I'm sure Ady has his reasons for not including Battle of the Heroes in ANH:R HD but I just thought I'd point out that there is a less bombastic choir-less version done by the flemish radio orchestra if the chorus was port of the reasoning.

I've been in support of still having it in, just with a choirless version instead.  Sure it won't happen, but that version you shared sounds pretty cool.  I had heard of a different non-choir version, but that sounds even better.  With a little audio processing, it would blend in.

I'll probably just make a personal fanedit of the fanedit, with the track re-added in.

Okay, I could do that, though I guess I've been kind of aiming for an even older look more recently to make this feel more defined from the original look.  If I were to follow the 90's look I was going for back a while ago, it would at least make the TPM color grading way easier.

On a side note, what's the opinion on the oldified sound, as per the most recent clip?  Remember it is only the center channel that is being heard at the moment, but it would not be that way in the final of course.

I hate to be that guy, but I have to say that while I do like the added camera shake, it doesn't look as realistic as it could be.  It's obvious that it was added after the fact digitally.  But knowing After Effects myself well enough, I understand that you can get it to look less tacked on and have a more natural movement.  Maybe have it the keyframes more transitioned, especially at the beginning and end of the shake.

Everything else is awesome!

New video clip

Might want to make the shadows not as dark, and am still tweaking the oldified audio (I again only have the center channel on right now).  But the way I've worked with the audio, I've tried to make it sound far less ADR'd and increase the volume of the little sounds like their footsteps.
