Remember, the only thing Lucas ever threw away was the original theatrical cuts, if you believe him.

He was making it in 720p, and isn’t going to start over again again.
Ady already justified this by allowing for a voice modulator in the helmet.
David Prowse was decades too old to play Anakin when they filmed the documentary. It’s not an option, even if it was available.
Why would Ady’s extended battles not be in his own edit?
I can’t make sense of what’s being asked.
They’re asking for the fan editor to fan edit their own fan edit instead of fan editing the fan edit themselves.
I never noticed that the Death Star was in range of Yavin in the SE version. That’s going to bother me for the rest of my life.

This pleases me greatly.
I was planning on explaining the filming and the reshoots, comparing how little changed between the Lost Cut and the final cut, showing that GWL had plenty of time to think about and change his mind about the scene. I maybe should mention how he DID change Ponda Baba’s death, that might be a good idea…
I’m going to be working on a definitive history of the Greedo scene in an all-new format: video.
It might take me a while, but I’m hoping it’ll be the answer for anyone who questioned when something was changed, why something was changed, and how something was changed.
Thanks, sounds like I’m pretty set!
Hey gang, I think I’m going to try my hand at making a Star Wars Visual Comparisons YouTube video covering the changes to Han v Greedo in editing and re-editing, with the goal to prove that Greedo shooting is plain and simple revisionism with no basis in the original edit or filming.
Now that I have most of my sources, I’m going to use this thread for updates. I’m going all out for this video, I’ll let you know if I need anything else!
Just in case anyone wants to believe anything written in those Archive books:
When the Jabba scene was cut, the Greedo scene did not make sense. It was shown with Greedo speaking an alien language without subtitles in 1977, so it looked like Han just shot in cold blood. Subtitles were added for the 1983 VHS release to clarify Greedo intended to kill Han.
I found it to be more heartwarming than I expected. I appreciated that accepted a post-TROS storyline while not being afraid to make jokes about TROS itself. The people who work on LEGO SW again prove to be us judging by the variety of prequel/SE/JJ-movie jokes.
Isn’t Cinefex more focused on the FX side of things? Marquand probably wouldn’t be shooting models at ILM.
Lucas is mentioned dozens of times. I can imagine Marquand may not have wanted to get deep into the effects, but I get the impression he didn’t even have an opinion.
The Cinefex article on ROTJ doesn’t mention Marquand at all.
I didn’t realize the Prequel Archive was going to cover the SE (when the “Original” Archive has pictures from the SE already). If anyone buys this and can get me scans of the SE chapter, that’d be super cool.
I got scans of the chapter, it’s all modern revisionist stuff.
I understand that Revisited is its own canon, however, has the thought of reversing the change of Chewie getting a medal to not conflict with “The Rise of Skywalker” been considered?
Canonically he did receive a medal. That was revealed in the mainline Star Wars comic in 2015.
And then he gave it away because WOOKIEES DON’T CARE ABOUT MEDALS.
And it wouldn’t solve the major problem of adding that scene back in: Greedo’s scene was modified to cover all of that information. There is no purpose to that scene without re-editing Greedo, which proved we didn’t need two scenes ever!

The 19SE is based on a new scan of the 97SE negative, therefore they MADE a 4K scan of the 97SE already.
My name is doubleofive, and I approve these threads.
The 1995 THX version is based on the same scan used for the 1993 Laserdisc (and therefore the same as the GOUT bonus disc). Home video scans weren’t as invasive as they are now, it was just a copy of an internegative (assumedly) in SD. From what I understand, the “THX” of it was just the standard used to get the master onto the VHS/Laserdisc. They didn’t do anything special for that release, they just made sure the copies were high quality.
Hey everyone, what’s the learning curve for this type of game if you haven’t played a lot of flight sims? I have played X-Wing Alliance and Tie Fighter on PC a long, long time ago (no pun intended) and own the Battlefront games. Though, I’m average at best at these type of games. I’ve been intrigued by being able to play Squadrons in VR especially after playing the Battlefront X-Wing experience (and that is something else!). I also read up on some reviews and have heard negatives. Any positives you may be able to share?
I was afraid I would not be good at this game, and I’m not, but I’m having fun with it. I have the same experience as you, so I imagine you would be as mediocre as I! I think the key is finding your class and sticking with it. Get good at Bombers or Interceptors, something like that.
I don’t know but shouldn’t an archive of the making of the Original film actually reflect that film, and not some 1990s cgi that was garbage. Even Rian Johnson referred to the special edition as the cartoon versions.
I wish i could find that comment its probably since been deleted.
Please do! Between that and the interview with JJ where he plugs Despecialized, we’d be really set. I’ve personally asked Rian for a comment (he follows @starwarsviscomp), but no go there.
The guy (Paul Duncan) interviewed George Lucas recently for his Star Wars books (there’s an Archives for the prequels coming soon), so maybe he doesn’t want to upset George by defending the theatrical cuts? It’s better for his work to stay in good terms, no matter what…
Oh, I’m sure of it. But there’s a difference between not advocating for the theatrical cuts and asking why anyone would want them in the first place.
A couple weeks ago I sparked an SE argument with the guy who wrote the Star Wars Archives “1977-1983” for him using SE images in his book. He claimed it’s not a problem to talk all about motion control models then only have finished CG images made 20 years later because “Lucas’ intent”. He later responded to someone asking why the theatrical cuts shouldn’t be released and he responded asking why should they if it wasn’t what Lucas originally wanted to release?
If a guy who researched and interviewed everyone involved with making the movies doesn’t understand why the ORIGINAL WORK should be preserved, I’m not sure we can convince anyone. I’m going to keep on keeping on because I’m never going to give up, ever, but it sucks.
