I’m helping Adywan update the ways to get Revisited.

He found a shot in the film that looked like it could be the same shot if it was from another angle.

I believe Adywan did a study and found a shot from him making similar expressions from a different angle. We don’t know of a reshoot filmed specifically for that shot, so I just stick with that theory.

No Star Trek VI though which really needed to be restored.

The theory is we’ll get that 1-4 set (Enterprise Refit), then a 5-7 set (Enterprises A-D), then a 8-10 set (Enterprise E), split them up into more affordable chunks instead of a 20 disc $300 ultra set.

Paramount and Paramount+ are excited to announce that a full restoration of the Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture has been greenlit.

The restoration will be undertaken by producer David C. Fein, restoration supervisor Mike Matessino, and visual effects supervisor Daren R. Dochterman, all of whom worked previously with director Robert Wise.

The film will be prepared for presentation in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision™ high dynamic range (HDR) and a new Dolby Atmos® soundtrack. The restoration is expected to take 6-8 months and will launch with an exclusive window on Paramount+.

Yeah, I don’t think petitions will help, especially since there’s so many out there. Mostly what we need is POSTIVITY. People running around being negative about it is going to kill everyone’s buzz. We need people to be EXCITED about the possibilities.

I think it’s people speaking up on social media that moves the needle nowadays. Unless someone proves otherwise, I’m going to continue shouting over there.

The damaged frame pictured is from the 97SE Laserdisc, not 4K83. Of my sources, this frame is in 4K83 (clean), GOUT (clean), and 97SE (with damage), and is not present in 04SE/11SE/19SE. Additionally, in an image I’m saving for V2.1*, there is actually a repeated frame in the next shot of R2 in 04SE and 11SE, I assume to make up for removing the damaged frame of Leia. 19SE doesn’t bother to repeat a frame to keep the sync, it just removes the damage and goes on. I don’t know how this works with the audio sync, I’m not an audio guy (hence Visual Comparisons). I assume they didn’t repeat the R2 frame because they HAD notes from the HD Branch changes to redo, but not very accurate ones (which explains how they got SOME of the ships that disappear for a frame during ANH that were fixed for HD, but not all).

To be clear, the ONLY damaged version of this frame is in the 1997 Laserdisc. I’m very interested to see if 4K97_VI has it, it’s part of the reason why I’m donating directly to that scan.

It’s confusing, I spent a lot of time figuring out what happened in these two shots to get my frame-accurate sync. So much so that my wife came to check on me and saw the frame I was staring at and asked, concerned “Is that a butt on your screen?” “It’s Carrie Fisher, it’s fine”.

*V2.1 will be everything from V2.0 plus all of the changes made to earlier SE’s that were redone or undone, such the repeated R2 frame only in HD Branch and the gold LFL logo.

You’re telling me. I decided I should probably use EverNote to organize my SE research. So I finally got logged in and found that I had already started using it to organize my SE research. A DECADE AGO. I had articles in there I had completely forgotten about!

It was 2004.

There are a lot of elements to Revisited that are not “canonical”. Ady’s goal is to make a version of the Special Edition he’s happy with, not fix Canon.

This version has 100 more images than the last one, though most of them are not new discoveries just that I gave myself the freedom to use multiple images per shot and changed how I dealt with replaced shots.

I have classified 238 shots into one of the following categories:

Recomposite - The shot was recomposited from the original elements for an SE
Modification - The shot was “enhanced” in some way for an SE
Addition - The shot was created fully for an SE
Removal - The shot was removed entirely from an SE
Trim - The shot was re-edited for an SE
Wipe - The wipe was recreated for an SE
Credits Change - A typo or grammatical error in the credits was corrected

I cannot believe we’re having the Flipper Debate again over a decade later. 😄 Ady removed the flipper arm after coming to the same conclusion the original crew must have, that it just begs the question of how he held a gun in the first place. But instead of following the original crew’s “just throw any arm on the floor”, Adywan made it the good Doctor’s. There’s no reason for him to change that.

We also see Leia at the end of TROS. I don’t think they “scrapped” anything about Force Ghosts. Having Hayden yelling at Kylo that he shouldn’t be evil is a dumb idea and needed to be removed, if that was the plan. And the turning point of TROS is literally a ghost telling Rey to not be stupid.

Are you sure it wasn’t a bootleg? Unless you’re talking about the 2004 Special Editions which have even more changes than the 1997 versions. Because there WERE bootleg DVDs of the 1997 SE’s that existed before Lucasfilm released them officially. The actual 1997 versions were never officially released on DVD.

You know you mos.likely correct cause I did buy them for myself in the 2000s at a Best Buy home electronics store here in America but the dvds did have both versions of the trilogy on each dvd though. Sure wish I had the dvds these days it would surely help in deciding which version I liked best even though I didnt really like the add with digital versions as long as I came with TESB original version on it My Favorite of the original theatrical trilogy version.

You’re talking about the Limited Edition 2006 DVD release. If you look hard enough you can find copies of them for sale for a decent price. Last weekend, I found Empire at a used video store in my area for $3!

Every example of a matte painting in “Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days” is from the SE. I’m sure that was a publisher overriding the author’s wishes.

That’s a mistake more than revisionism, though I’m not sure how it happened. The rest of the images I’ve seen (so far) are labeled as being SE.

The text of the book however, wowee.

The swag is so good though. I now have two of the medals that come with the sets, and I took the staples out of the “Art of the Special Edition” booklet (which is the exact content as the appendices of the “Art of” books) last night and got good scans of every page.

And I got 5 frames of Jabba’s ass, which is perfect.

The original plan was to have a lot more makeup on him (almost a mutant), and to NOT have him show up as a ghost. His actual age didn’t matter.

More proof that they redid the 2004 changes. Thanks Ady!
