STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time
Boba Fett in RotJ seems to be the point where Lucas started putting things in his movies to reference other movies, and I had the same reaction I did to the references to the OOT in the PT. At first I thought lines like "You're going to be the death of me" and seeing the Death Star in the PT were awesome, and nothing could be better. Then the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it is completely pointless and fanboyish to refer to the other better movies before they happen. Especially since we're supposed to watch them in numerical order, where you wouldn't get the jokes they're making until after they happen. I don't want to be watching Vader and Obi-Wan duel in ANH and remember Obi-Wan's haunting words "You're going to be the death of me" as he disappears.

As for Fett not doing much in Empire, the thing is that without him tracking down the Falcon to Cloud City, the last third of the movie wouldn't happen. In RotJ, if Fett didn't flirt with the dancer and fall into the Sarlacc, um, nothing would have changed. His death doesn't have to be a blaze of glory, but Lucas is just ruining our remembrance of better movies by killing him with one of the Three Stooges.

Here I am going off on a RotJ/PT tangent after getting yelled at about it just a few pages back...

There is something that i have noticed about the 2004 DVD though that's a bit weird. There are some shots that don't have the blue tint and are actually the correct colour. It almost looks like the film was cut into loads of different sections and then colour corrected by a load of different people without any communication to achieve a balance. Its the worse colour job i have ever seen

For some reason, this reminds me of the War when Britain tried to translate the funniest joke in the world in German by splitting it into pieces. I seem to recall one of them saw another one's word and spent several weeks in the hospital.

Is that bad that Lucas is reminding me of a Monty Python sketch?

4 hours? Take the torrented files, apply the standard fix, run the Quickpar fix from last night, pcgedit the ISO, and burn. It sounds complicated, but its not.

I'm not trying to attack Cassius, I'm just trying to justify all the time Ady spent last night to fix it. Don't be disheartened, follow torrentors!

That being said, I'm never using torrents for that again. ESBR will be through Usenet, no matter the cost!

And the menus on my test ISO were black and white, which is really weird.

EDIT: I'm going to be leaving really soon, so someone else is going to need to test the fix when it comes.

Are those the problem files? and did you apply the NTSC fix first because they may come up as damaged if that hasn't been applied first

I applied the fix, those are the only damaged files.

I like how Ben is really tiny next to Yoda as Luke is leaving Dagobah, like he can scale himself up and down...

Yeaaah, He definitely is not tiny. Yoda is closer to the camera and Ben is further away.

Maybe its just my "how it must be because that's how I saw it as a kid" thing. I'll have to look again. Someone have a screenshot handy for my sake?

Except for the PURIST changes, which I just assumed, the others were the lists you made the day of the releases.

A few weeks ago you posted a new Vader voice. Did you change his voice for the DVD-9 and PURIST?

I think to help get us back on topic, we should make a list of the changes between the XVID vs DVD-5 vs DVD-9 vs PURIST. I think I made a partial list for fanedits.com, but I for one am curious as to what exactly was changed back in PURIST.

My partial list between the XVID and DVD-5 is:

- Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
- Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
- Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
- Ponda Baba's arm swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
- Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
- Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
- Typos in the credits fixed

DVD-5 and DVD-9:

- Replaced "fixed shot" where gun was added to the Death Star Control Room to prevent a continuity error and erased a gun from the following shot. Now there are three guns on the rack after our heroes leave the droids behind.
- Remixed Vader's voice even further to match the rest of the trilogy(?)

DVD-9 and PURIST:

Changes from the full version:
- Changed 3PO's line back to "There'll be no excape for the princess this time"
- Re-edited Obi-Wan's Hut scene back to its original version
- Removed the extended Death Star reveal
- Removed the extended TIE Fighter reveal
- Removed all music not originally found in the film

That sound about right?

I prefer torrents over Usenet just to irritate people. :-)

That's only partially true, actually. I had bad experiences years ago trying to use the binary groups -- maybe it's changed since then but back in the day it was rare when I could find all the parts of a given set. It was always 18 of 22 parts or whatever, and I almost never managed to actually download anything. Soured me on the whole idea, so I'm reluctant to try again. Give me one click to deal with, I don't mind waiting. Plus I only download one or two items of this size a year, if that, so I'm not into paying for it. To each his own, of course.

But any opportunity to watch an Internet subculture gnash its collective teeth, I'm there. ;-)

I'm with Ron. I can either pay a couple bucks and get it right now, or I can use my bandwidth to help others get it and just be patient.

I got the DVD-5 in one afternoon through torrents. Not saying its the only way to go, but it worked for me that one time. PURIST took a couple days last week, and I'm still getting the DVD-9 because poor -1 is the only seeder. It'll start flying (relatively) when there's more than one (tomorrow sometime, if my estimates are correct).

No, the ramp is BEING LOWERED, it is not touching the ground yet. It hangs from the hydraulic pistons. Just watch the scene ;)

NOW I remember. Sorry. Makes sense. Don't know how it could be fixed, but back to my original observation of "good eye."

Is there any way to delete most of that whole conversation? I feel silly...

I forgot about the shuttle scene being dumped.

As for the first point, it is not bending, it's just squishing down. It lowers noticeably on each Han's step.

In that case, I think it might be deliberate, because the ground feels strange, doesn't feel like rock.

To contribute something after a long time. Two minor things:

- inside the asteroid creature, when they are lowering the Falcon door, as Han is descending it, the door lowers significantly on his each step. It's a detail but looks odd, like a spaceship door cannot handle a person's weight. It makes a metal hydraulic ramp look like it was made of plastic.

- the ramp of the Vader's shuttle bends like a thin wooden plank as Vader descends it at the end of the movie. Again a detail, but it just looks bad.

No worries about the second one since it'll be gone, but good eye on the first one! Unless its supposed to be squishing into the interior of the slug. I don't recall, is it bending, or just squishing down?

Onto ANHR, any additional FX work will jump out as new and different to fans who have seen the film numerous times. Casual observers would most likely not notice anything that seems out of place. As a whole, the new edit flows and blends seamlessly between the original work and the enhancements. With all the garbage mattes phased out, new additions don't look like they don't belong. There's a certain polish to the whole product that makes it look like all elements are from the same time period. This can't be said of the official SE's as so many little things were left alone and broken to an extent, causing the new, pristine FX work to stick out.

This is why I'm afraid to show it to my wife. I mean, she likes Star Wars, but without the commentary track, I don't think she'll notice any changes and think I'm crazy for downloading the torrent for the last several days and buying DL DVDs to put them on. I'm going to have to go with the commentary track, thank Ady for that.

Speaking of "Ady", I've always pronounced it at "add-ee-wan" but since its short for Adrian and you're British, I guess its pronounced more like "a-d-one"...

Ady, I appreciate how level-headed you are about all this. It seems so many people around here, myself included, can get so thickheaded about changing things back or ignoring the PT. I'm glad that the guy who did such an amazing edit of ANH also has so much respect for the other movies.

But enough about that, back to ESB.

I like the idea of trying to get "Luke" from Ian on that extra DVD. I also think that well placed static would do nicely to cover any edits. It'll be interesting to see how its done in the end.
