I added an addendum to the end of yesterday's 'missing Lightsaber' post Ady. :)

I thought his lightsaber already was in the bird's eye shot. I was going to check last night, but I was distracted by Luke being so quiet that I could barely hear him in some "lost scene".

I just realized something. In the Official Site's "What Has Changed?" comparison between 2004 and GOUT it has many dozens of "Such-and-such has been digitally recomposited." Wouldn't that mean that they had access to all of the elements back when they were doing the 97 SE at the very least? If so why couldn't they fix all of the transparency issues back then? Why do them so half-assed if they had to go back to the base elements anyway?

I know all of these questions have no answers, but I wish they would open up the archives to Ady to allow him to take the time to matte out all of the elements properly. Heck, give him access the original background plates too. Let this one man take the time and his own money to do what Lucas would not do.

Jeez, I'm getting all fired up!

A question for you guys... I was watching the DVD9 the other day on my LG DVD player/recorder

Funny you mention this, because my LG DVD Recorder (LG LRA-850)
ironically doesn't play DVD-R's correctly, only commercially-made DVDs and anything I record using it. I haven't tried the DVD-9 in it because I figure it wouldn't work anyway since nothing I've ever burned works in it. I don't use it for anything but recording anyway, so it's not an issue.

A DVD recorder that doesn't play recorded DVDs? That is ironic. How do they get away with that?

I forgot to say that I was testing the DVD-9 and had my wife (a moderate Star Wars fan) sit down and watch the extended Alderaan Destruction Sequence. She saw bits and pieces of the XVID version, but hasn't seen the whole thing yet.

I asked her "You want to see the coolest thing that's not in the movie?"

She was like "Sure", kind of rolling her eyes.

I think I heard her gasp, and afterwards she said "That was awesome! Why didn't he put that in?!"

"Because it takes away from the pacing--" "So?!" "And Obi-Wan said they cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

"Who cares what Obi-Wan says?! That was so cool!"

And this from a girl who doesn't mind Jar Jar.

I'm still fine with it being right where it is, just letting you know how cool it is. I expected the shorter version you put online a while back, so I was blown away when I first saw the "final" version too.

I used Imgburn for my first burn since I had to recreate the ISO from scratch. I've not burned it with CDBurnerXP yet.

The only things that might glitch are the menu transitions in the special features and the pause in the middle of the movie as the laser starts heading back towards the center of the disc.

Anyway, as far as 'Empire' goes, I notice that the blue colouring of R2D2 in the X-wing in space is erratic. In some shots his blue sections are completely blue with no 'shading', but other shots have his blue sections blackly shaded with a little blue added. Tying these together a bit would be nice, and to be honest, I prefer the latter look.

I too like the mostly black coloring to R2 in those particular shots. I mean, its space, there shouldn't be that much coloring to his panels. Definitely don't make them solid black, but just hint them a bit on the blue side.

I watched that clip and my mouth dropped open. I had no idea how freaking bad the DVDs are! Jeez, that's just ridiculous. If one guy in a few weeks can fix it, imagine how fast Lowry or ILM could have fixed it if they just took the time.

Your work is even more incredible the more I look at it.

Oh, and that first shot of R2 turning towards the X-Wing is the shot where I think the X-Wing should start slipping into the water. It's really high out of the water to only have a part of the wing sticking up a few seconds later.

Boba Fett in RotJ seems to be the point where Lucas started putting things in his movies to reference other movies, and I had the same reaction I did to the references to the OOT in the PT. At first I thought lines like "You're going to be the death of me" and seeing the Death Star in the PT were awesome, and nothing could be better. Then the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it is completely pointless and fanboyish to refer to the other better movies before they happen. Especially since we're supposed to watch them in numerical order, where you wouldn't get the jokes they're making until after they happen. I don't want to be watching Vader and Obi-Wan duel in ANH and remember Obi-Wan's haunting words "You're going to be the death of me" as he disappears.

As for Fett not doing much in Empire, the thing is that without him tracking down the Falcon to Cloud City, the last third of the movie wouldn't happen. In RotJ, if Fett didn't flirt with the dancer and fall into the Sarlacc, um, nothing would have changed. His death doesn't have to be a blaze of glory, but Lucas is just ruining our remembrance of better movies by killing him with one of the Three Stooges.

Here I am going off on a RotJ/PT tangent after getting yelled at about it just a few pages back...

There is something that i have noticed about the 2004 DVD though that's a bit weird. There are some shots that don't have the blue tint and are actually the correct colour. It almost looks like the film was cut into loads of different sections and then colour corrected by a load of different people without any communication to achieve a balance. Its the worse colour job i have ever seen

For some reason, this reminds me of the War when Britain tried to translate the funniest joke in the world in German by splitting it into pieces. I seem to recall one of them saw another one's word and spent several weeks in the hospital.

Is that bad that Lucas is reminding me of a Monty Python sketch?

4 hours? Take the torrented files, apply the standard fix, run the Quickpar fix from last night, pcgedit the ISO, and burn. It sounds complicated, but its not.

I'm not trying to attack Cassius, I'm just trying to justify all the time Ady spent last night to fix it. Don't be disheartened, follow torrentors!

That being said, I'm never using torrents for that again. ESBR will be through Usenet, no matter the cost!
