STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I'm thinking that maybe the cockpit window should be tinted red at the very least, and at the very awesomenest have a full heads-up display on it. Targeting displays and whatnot. That'd be awesome, but maybe a bit much. I trust Ady to keep the right tone with his cut of the movie.

well i did it because only in ANH & ESB does the starfield rotate when you see a ship entering hyperspace. i all other movies it remains static (check out when the fleet jump to hyperspace in ROTJ). Also if the starfieilds rotate like that then doesn't that mean that the ship has to spin to get into hyperspace?

Travelling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops boy! You can't handle it if you have a weak stomach!

The Special Edition wasn't needed.

I enjoy a good SE bash as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure I entirely agree that they weren't needed whatsoever. The concept of a special edition which fixes poor visual effects (really dark matte lines, translucent snowspeeders, projector-screen-rancor, miscoloured ANH lightsabres) is good, IMO, provided you don't proceed to then wipe away the original from the pages of film history.

The real problem is that GL went overboard. Rather than touching up the films, he ended up tampering with them. Claymation Jabba, Greedo shooting first, Fraggle Rock characters in Jabba's palace, and a big ol' frikkin' beak on the Sarlaac pit are all examples of change for the sake of change that just stretches credutilty to the breaking point. What's really sad is that a lot of these over-the-top changes were done while lots of a subtle things that really would've helped the films were completely ignored. (Snowspeeders are still translucent. Luke's lightsabre is still sickly green. Et cetera and so forth.)

Honestly, I don't mind the celebration scene so much (although the Kenny G music does irk me; gimme "Yub, yub!" any day.) I even rather enjoy the new sky shots in cloud city. The key is subtlety. The silly CGI antics performed by Jawas and droids as Luke & Co. enter Mos Eisely just scream, "Look at me! Look at me! I'm a new addition! Isn't this great?!?!"

Sooo, all that to say, the concept of an improved OT has potential; the egregious failure was in the execution. That's why, to me, the SEs will forever be apocryphal, and Adywan's revisited series (once it's finished) I will consider canon.

Amen and amen.

I wonder if they added the blue to kinda make the film seem colder... because DAMN ...that's a lot of blue.

i think it amy have been a crude attempt at highlighting its harsh times for the rebellion. in the prequels the colours of each film seem tailored to the mood, (EP1+2 being rosy and over saturated to show the inoocence and romance, EP3 being alot darker and broodier) in ROTJ the colours seem to get a bit jolly again after the emperor is killed, han almost looks like he is wearing lipstick!

At least that's a better excuse than "to give them a more modern look." But one of the first screenshots Ady posted of the color correction was how the DVD actually has LESS blue in a few shots. Craziness.

Shadowman99 is my hero. Screenshots, that's the key, ladies and gentlemen. I was going to mention the floating SD as I just noticed it upon viewing GoodMusician's alternate music track (which is where I noticed the turret as well).

I don't think that shadow on the Falcon looks bad, but at least its not the shadow of the gun like I thought it was.

Oh, and the Corellian Bloodstripes came from the original "Han Solo Adventures" book trilogy published before ESB. I've never really put much stock in them, so his different stripes never bothered me. Adding prequel elements to Revisited is one thing, adding EU stuff from books before there was more than one movie is something else. I'm sure later EU books explained it away anyway (just like all of the stories of young Boba Fett in the EU all of a sudden became Jango's history, and people just got confused).

This came to me last night. I think the asteroid field should be visable before our heros reach it since currently it kind of comes out of nowhere. Maybe it could even be added to the background of some of the orbital Hoth shots as well. General Rieekan said that there's a lot of meteor activity in the system, so maybe it could be visable, kind of like a reference point to show which direction people are flying, Han towards it, Luke away from it.

I also think it'd be cool to see other meteorites entering the atmosphere, but that may be too distracting as the only one we see is a probe droid, and those unfamiliar may believe they are just dozens of probes landing.

Anyway, that's what I came up with.

So, Ady, back to the most recent split screen preview. I assume you changed the shot of the power generator to better match the image sent back to the Imperial Fleet. But looking at the image that Vader and Co are looking at, there seems to be a turret near the generator. What say you?

I've just had a look at your clips GoodMusician and it's i can now see why they didn't use the original score. it was definitely for a different edit of the opening. the music where the probe droid emerges does sound more like its for the the taun taun running than for the probe droid so maybe that wasn't revealed until after Luke was attacked. Also i think there may have been an extra shot of the probe flying through space. I've done a rough mock-up of the scene but slowed down some shots to fit the cues so they look odd. it would be so great if we could find some documentation of what the original edit was like.

I do have to say though that i actually now prefer the fanfare at the end that what was originally intended. I'm probably going to keep that in and change the one at the end of the Vader meditation scene.

I'm sorry, but I don't get it..... Please reconsider before dumping the original opening music...this didn't sound like ESB AT ALL to me...

Sorry Ady....

vbangle, Adywan only said that he likes everything that is currently in the movie, except he wants to change the end of the Vader meditation scene. Nothing to freak out about, my friend.

I agree with GM about the timing of the original score. The Taun Taun kind of seems evil with that music behind it, espcecially if you'd never seen it before.

But if its not getting put it in, I don't know if we need to spend more time on it. We should now be looking for a new cue for Vader's Meditation Chamber!

Change the other use of it... Why didn't any of us think of that? Leave it to Ady to not just state the obvious, but re-edit the opening sequence just to see what it might have been like.

when accessing scenes via the chapter menus, the English subtitle option automatically shows up with the movie. Is there a fix I missed?

It did the same thing on my laptop. I've also noticed that the DVD9 just plays on my laptop- it won't play at all on my old iMac or on my DVD player, but the Purist DVD plays on everything. Probably due to the advancing age of my iMac and DVD player(?)

Ady,

Those who've gotten to know me in the last 2 years know that I'm no fan of the SEs. Given a choice between the SE and the Purist edition- I would far prefer watching your Purist edition.

I'm amazed at how you removed the ronto from that one scene- how DID you do that? I've watched it several times and I don't see a drop in quality- it's amazing!

I only hope that this project encourages someone, someday, to do a true purist's "purist" edition, and de-SE the entire film. You've shown that it CAN be done (and done well!)

Thanks for all your hard work.

You can see the breakdown at Erikstormtrooper's Adywan Archive with the file "mos_eisley_mixdown_layers.zip"

You can use Photoshop, The GIMP, or something like that to view all of the layers it took for him to delete the Ronto and show what was behind it. Absolutely awesome.

GoodMusician, thanks for your mix of the original score. If nothing else, I like seeing it preserved. I would think it was too much for a project like this, but Ady added "Battle of the Heroes" to A New Hope, and at least this was originally written for this movie. Like Lucas probably vetoed the original cut like you showed, Ady may do the opposite. In the end it wasn't up to John Williams and its not up to us, its up to the director.

May Ady's will be done.

Ady, quick question:

One of the little things I loved most about ANH:R was the way you edited the opening crawl so "EPISODE IV" appeared at the same cue it did pre-ANH. Well, for ESB, "EPISODE V" appears at the same time "EPISODE IV" does in the re-release/SE print of ESB. In fact, ALL of the movies are like this.

Do you plan on altering the opening crawls so they start at the proper cue for all the films, the way you did with ANH? I, for one, would LOVE to see this happen (at least with the OT).

Oh, and I like the original music cue - it's very epic, and reminds me a lot of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS for some reason. Perhaps you could try it out and see how it works in context with your edit and the rest of the sound track, Ady?

I noticed that too when I was getting elements from Episode III for some reason. Like they never noticed that they changed the timing when they added the episode number. Eh, I don't get it.

The reason I demostrated the original cue (yes, that's the ORIGINAL Probe Droid cue) rather than the film alternate is that is Ady is going to be rebuilding the Sound field, then the alternate will produce more problems than it will solve.

For one, the music quality is different than the rest becuase it was one of a couple tracks that are improperly and haphazardly mixed on the SE.

Two, it's missing a few bars which enable the transition between it and the music as Luke is on the taun taun.

And lastly, to simply show what it was like.

As for the request to mix in the sfx, I've done that before... but my video got pulled from YouTube... I'll post it again here if you'd like...

You already have it SFXed? Awesome. You can post it here, we won't tell anyone!

I took the basic form from whoever started the original entry on fanedits.com and made all the of other versions. I found the changes info by going through the thread and finding the post where Ady announces the final changes in each version. I've had him look over the fanedits.com, and he says they are accurate to the best of his knowledge. I like the actual screenshots of each release, I just used the master thing from the first post. I think since the PAL and NTSC versions' only difference is one subtitle track, I think we can combine it to just XVID, DVD-5, DVD-9, and PURIST. I don't think they would need different screenshots, especially the PURIST version as it has no menus and not any visual changes that screenshots would justify.
