STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Savage makes good points. I've gone back and forth enough, but I suppose my first screenshots stand with Savage's idea here.

Here are more background comparisons:

Slave 1 load:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/3041/esbslave1loadlj7.jpg
Slave 1 leave:
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/1817/esbslave1qe4.jpg

These backgrounds do not match at all, and the clouds behind the close up of Fett match the load screen and not the leave one.

Falcon arrive:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/3010/esbfalcon1do4.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5728/esbfalcon2qw4.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8905/esbfalcon3tj5.jpg
Falcon leave:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9699/esbcloudcity2ks9.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4201/esbcloudcity4dk7.jpg

The shot of Han walking towards Lando and the shot of Lando and Co running towards the Falcon match almost perfectly. Everyone walking straight towards camera is a really good match to the Falcon blasting off. It all looks good, except that none of the clouds matching the more CGI shots.

So my vote is to change Slave 1's background in all the shots, because the Falcon one's match fairly well.

Ramp arrive:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4620/esbdoorwaysw3.jpg
Ramp leave:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/6492/esbcloudcity3dw9.jpg

The ramp towards the city has the fancy CGI background that kind of matches the original matte, but as they leave its back to the matte. Maybe we could recolor the CGI to replace the matte as they're leaving.

Just for Sevb, here's some more screenshots of Things I Never Noticed and One Thing I Have:

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/1817/esbslave1qe4.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4201/esbcloudcity4dk7.jpg

Like I said, the buildings don't match the other shot of the Falcon anyway. Too bad they're the same as Slave 1's also. Oh, and Slave one's clear cockpit got bluescreened all the way out. Maybe we could do something about that too.

I also can't wait to see the Falcon's "exhaust" being blue all of the time.

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/3886/esbcloudrefineru8.jpg
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4776/esbcloudxwingst6.jpg

At least they recomposited Cloud City to make it different sizes.

And my personal favorite that I ran into while fast forwarding:

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/8874/esbreflectionca5.jpg

Um, yeah. That's unfortunate.

I'm going to work with ImperialFighter on one of his concepts soon.

Darn you Darth Stewie. Darn you to heck. I was watching the movie in fast forward to get those shots, I forgot about "What about those fighters?!" I guess we would need fighters then to make that make more sense. Why didn't you mention that before?!

I agree that it should be more than 3 fighters. But if the Falcon goes back to the City to pick up Luke, I guess no one notices them for a while because they went to the underside...

I love being in the middle of these debates, I wish I didn't switch sides so often. :-)

Can't wait to hear what Ady thinks after his daughter's prom.

So, I took screenshots of 6 of the shots of Cloud City after Lando calls for the evacuation, the shots that could have some more ships.

1:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/4980/esbcloudcity1gb9.jpg

I like this shot, but we'd need to see glimpses of the window or lighting on her face as she's shooting back at the troopers. Also, maybe a couple more ships leaving if the shot is kept in it's post-SE state.

2:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9699/esbcloudcity2ks9.jpg

Maybe a few ships leaving in the background.

3:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/6492/esbcloudcity3dw9.jpg

Maybe more ships in this shot since theoretically we are looking towards the center of the buildings.

4:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4201/esbcloudcity4dk7.jpg

I think the same ships that were in shot 2 should still be trying to leave. And it looks like the buildings don't match very well with the previous shots, like they didn't SE this one.

5:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/2144/esbcloudcity5st9.jpg

The shot could be moved up so we could see teeny tiny ships leaving, but not too many as to be a swarm of flies... Maybe have the TIEs enter from the upper left side of the frame, tense up the scene a bit more.

6:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/3553/esbcloudcity7pu4.jpg

Now I think some ships could be getting shot at in the background.

And there's my Visual 5 Cents. So I think the TIEs should be brought in shortly after "Bring my shuttle" maybe like they were launched along with Vader's shuttle.

Here's my 5 cents on the "TIE Fighters at Cloud City" issue:

At first I was excited about the prospect, then I read the good arguments about how that really wouldn't be Vader's MO. Then Darth Stewie turned me back around to liking it as we don't get to see much Imperial oppression against innocents. However, I still don't think it fits due to sequences in the movie.

Lando and Co blast their way out of Cloud City and leave in the Falcon with no problem. Then they turn around and pick up Luke. THEN the TIEs come down on them. I think that's when the "more Imperial troops" are arriving, because if there's already TIEs in the air over Cloud City, how does the Falcon leave, come back, and pick up Luke without being shot at?

I'm all for having various ships leaving after Lando announces the Empire's intentions (and as a fan of "Firefly", you could have Serenity really small in the background), but I'm no for the TIEs.

Another 5 cents about the open hallway. I love the new shot, and with some fixed reflections, I think it would be very nice.

My favourite edit in ANH:R was the computer displays in the Rebel Base at Yavin. I was wondering if the Rebel Hoth Base could be touched up in a similar way? I'm thinking specifically about the screens in the control room (the room in which the lady says 'stand by Ion Control. And...fire'). Obviously nothing too over the top, but maybe the displays here could benefit from little digital annotations/text appearing across them, and possibly small digital diagrams and graphics flashing on the screens.

I thought the way the displays were handled in ANH:R was very tasteful, and it'd be great if the same could be done for Empire.

Good idea! I don't recall having heard that before, but I'm sure it entered Ady's mind. We're all too focused on fixing the little mistakes and ignoring the pretty improvements to be made!

Well, I heard back from my contact that worked at Lowry Digital. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any information about the coloring changes because there was none to give since he didn't start there until after SW was completed. Plus he mentioned NDAs.

I was just reading articles about Lowry's work and here's what Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm and Executive Producer of the collection said:

"We’d done a lot of work on the films prior to going to John [Lawry], re-mastering them in high-def, down-converting them into standard def, and re-color timing them. We actually took a cleaning pass through Industrial Light and Magic, as well, but then ultimately took them down to John to make them pristine."

-Apple Canada

So it sounds like ILM digitized the film, down-converted it, color-timed it, tried to clean it, and then sent the remains to Lowry to be cleaned up. Does that mean ILM add the new 2004 changes to the damaged print? It does seem like ILM is responsible for the bad colors though.

I was just reading the Wikipedia entry on the "List of changes in Star Wars re-releases" and I found a couple things that might be cool.

Deleted Scenes said:

In the carbon-freezing sequence, C-3PO's complete line would have been "I'm not ready to die on the back of a demented wookiee!" (the italicized words were deleted from all versions of the film, but were heard in their entirety on the Story of The Empire Strikes Back LP).

That'd be interesting to hear, and maybe squeeze in if its not too distracting.

Changes to 2004 DVD said:

When Luke confronts Vader in the carbon-freezing chamber and ignites his lightsaber, the sound from the original release is overlapped in this scene by the sound produced by Luke's new lightsaber in Return of the Jedi.

Since you're redoing most of the sound, I'm sure you'll fix this.

Film Changes said:

# After the Probe droid lands and moves left, there is an optical wipe to the overhead shot of Luke on his Tauntaun.
# After Luke wanders through the snow and falls face down, there is an optical wipe to Han instead of a straight cut.

Have you tried restoring/adding these wipes? I was pretty confused at the phrasing of the 70mm vs 35mm in the article. But I think a wipe might be useful in the first scene especially, to show that we're actually traveling back in time to before the probe landed.

Also, the article mentions ANHR, which is pretty cool.

EDIT: And though the article doesn't mention it due to gross clerical error, there is an errant slowflake on Chewbacca's foot. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it here yet.

3. In the updated special edition TESB, as Han, Leia, Lando and Chewy are walking to the trap Vader has set, they walk past one of the new "visualizations" with a lift going up and a view of Bespin. Yet in the following shot, when you see Han holding his gun, the original browny white background is back in its place.

This has been pointed out, but I hope that Ady uses my idea of having the window fade back to the brown wall or the brown wall actually be shutters that slide up as they are walking by (which gives Chewie something to look back at and be worried about), instead of removing the window completely or doing the impossible and putting the open window behind everyone in all of those shots.

I'm going to be putting the open window into every shot. Its going to be hard, yeh, but it will be worth it.

You are absolutely crazy. Crazy like a fox! I can't wait to see how you pull it off!

So what would you think if they made these changes to the Blu-Ray release...
Time
Are the painted Stormtroopers the only difference in those pictures? Honestly, I wouldn't care how many changes they made in the Blu-Ray release, as long as they released the Original Original Trilogy with it. Like a "Saga" version that fits in more prequel stuff and a "Classic" version that only fits in with itself.

Just a couple things from IMDB that I myself noticed too and they bug me. Many of the little details don't, but these do... maybe its something for you to consider.....

1. The original version has the Rebel fleet hyperspace out immediately before the end credits. Follow-up versions (THX re-release, Special Edition and DVD) all cut to the end credits before the hyperspace jump.

IMDB seems to be the only source on this, as no one I've seen in other threads can produce the evidence or video that the fleet ever went into hyperspace. I need to see if my dad still has the original CBS-FOX VHS copies of ESB and RotJ and see if this is true. I grew up on those copies though, and I don't remember that.

2. As they are are walking through cloud city, Leia is between Han and Lando. As they come around a corner, Han and Lando have switched places.

Never noticed that. Not sure how we could fix that...

4. During the Battle for Hoth, several rebel soldiers fall down without being hit.

5. (This one REALLY bugs me) Several times, during the escape from Cloud City, stormtroopers are shot, but no blast marks are left on their armor. In addition, the intensity of the guns' blasters against the stormtroopers progressively decreases and increases during the episode.

6. (This one REALLY REALLY bugs the living hell out of me throughout the entire saga) The sounds for lasers and lightsabers change throughout the movie, even with the same weapon being used more than once in a scene. A good example is Han's blaster in the asteroid cave, which makes at least two completely different noises when firing. (Or lightsabers..... if each lightsaber sounds different, I can accept that. But when they clash, they should all sound the same. The lack of big clash noise ruined every lightsaber battle for me, and the fact that each battle sounded completely different from one another sucked, especially the Dooku scenes. But don't get me started on those cause i could go on for hours)

I'm sure some of Ady's redone laser blasts will find their marks now, as we've seen in ANHR. Not sure about those particular sound effects. Maybe each saber brings its own clash sound to the fight?

Just a couple for tonight. Just me being nitpicky.

No, nitpicky is pointing out lights in matte paintings that aren't consistant, and panel colors on the Falcon. Just teasing, ImperialFighter! :-P

I don't have any special set-up myself, but a DVD cover is smaller in both dimensions than a piece of A4 paper. My box art would probably be too wide, but there are always ways. The trick is to get it to print at the right size, and I have no idea how to do this — I haven't printed out any of my covers yet — so I just worked to the same resolution scale as Sky_'s Revisited cover for all of mine.

I think ThrowgnCpr was talking about printing and folding the box set box, not the plain DVD cover. As long as you scaled the cover to Sky_'s, you should be alright.

I love the new troops. I agree that they look so natural there! I also like the fact that the new ones standing in front of the turret block most of the empty entrance I was complaining about!

So, besides the correct colors, the boom mike removal, and the new troops, is there anything else we should have noticed?

Couple more quick ones for today, then I'm off to actually do some work!

That second (better detailed, less blurry) 'close-up' of the viewscreen 'surround' is a bit transparent at the bottom, and we can see Admiral Piet through it. Could you 'solidify' it for us Ady?

Need to look carefully for this one - On the initial long shot reveal of the 'plectrum'-shaped structure, on the side facing us near the position where the entrance into it is....there seems to be a couple of flashing 'lights' that are NOT there in the next shot of Luke heading towards the entrance. Could you remove them for us?

I'll be back tomorrow with a couple of issues I'd REALLY like to see sorted that I think are relevant and could be neat!

Between ImperialFighter and Adywan both watching the whole movie frame by frame, there should be no continuity problems in this movie!

There was one continuity error I wanted to mention, but I don't think I did. When Han first walks into the Echo Base control center, Leia is looking at him across the room from between two techs. After Han walks across the room to the General, Leia is looking at him again, but this time the frame is flipped because Han is on the other side of the room. It makes sense if you don't look at it too hard because Leia is supposed to be looking over her other shoulder at Han. However, the techs have switched sides. I guess you could recolor their hair and it would make it a little less obvious.

Onto business, here's a little something I've only just noticed recently -

As C3PO complains to Chewbacca carrying him "....Ow!....That hurt....bend down you thoughtless....", as he bends down to get in the Falcon....C3PO's head slightly hits the red 'light' fixture beside the ramp....and knocks it off! Maybe the props guys used double-sided tape for it! :) Anyway, can we get that sorted so it stays in place?

I used to imagine that was a homing beacon that wasn't so secure about their ship. You know, a real obvious one so you think you've got it, when in reality there's a better disguised one somewhere else. But that was as a child, and I later realized that it was last movie when they were tracking the ship and not in this one.
