I agree that it does have nice symmetry, and it would work well, if not for the earlier reveal that Vader is already “obsessed” with Luke. In fact, if you think it about it too hard (which we all clearly have) it starts to seem like the evil Emperor, who meticulously plotted his rise to power, started an intergalactic war to help him along and even (possibly) manipulated the Force into conceiving his own apprentice, has clearly lost a step or two if it takes him three years to find out who blew up his big 20-year long construction project a couple days after it was finished!

LOL.  Yes, clearly Palpatine isn't as sharp as he used to be.

For comparison's sake:

Original:

VADER: What is thy bidding, my master?
EMPEROR: There is a great disturbance in the Force.
VADER: I have felt it.
EMPEROR: We have a new enemy -- Luke Skywalker.
VADER: Yes, my master.
EMPEROR: He could destroy us.
VADER: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
EMPEROR: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
VADER: If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally.
EMPEROR: Yes. Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?
VADER: He will join us or die, my master.

2004 DVD:

VADER: What is thy bidding, my master?
EMPEROR: There is a great disturbance in the Force.
VADER: I have felt it.
EMPEROR: We have a new enemy, the young Rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
VADER: How is that possible?
EMPEROR: Search your feelings, Lord Vader. You will know it to be true. He could destroy us.
VADER: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
EMPEROR: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
VADER: If he could be turned, he will become a powerful ally.
EMPEROR: Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?
VADER: He will join us or die, my master.

Personally, I have no problem with the new lines. As much as people may pretend the prequels never happened, the added lines do support the assumption that Vader did not know what had happened to his child(ren). With the old lines, it appears he already knows Luke is his son. I mean, it's up to Ady, but IMO the newer ones are one of the SE changes I agree with.

The thing is, if Vader is running around the galaxy saying "The Rebels are there, and I'm sure Skywalker is with them!" and the opening crawl saying how obsessed he is with finding young Skywalker, I'm pretty sure that unless he forgot his old last name, he knows that Luke is his son.  In the original version, it could be interpreted that the Emperor is just upgrading Luke's threat level, while in the new one he's basically telling Vader that Luke exists, when it's obvious that Vader knows already.

If a break for Ady means a 720p version of ESB (which is as high as my HDTV goes anyway), then I'm all for it.  1. It's a break, which he needs and 2. It'll be better for everyone in the long run.  Even if you say you can't tell the difference between DVD and HD signal, I believe that if you looked hard enough you'd be able to tell.  Besides, mastering in higher than DVD resolution just means higher quality DVDs as well.  On a whim this morning I plugged my flash drive into my Xbox 360 to see if it could play yesterday's preview: flawless.  I watched the first few minutes of ESB in the highest quality I've ever seen it at home and I crave more.

Ady, thank you for your hard work and dedication to this project.  I hope that you'll stick around and give us your opinions during the break.  You know, stop some of the arguments before they start.  Of course, if you read some of our suggestions, you'll probably end up tinkering with it, then it wouldn't be much of a break now would it? ;-)

EDIT: Ady, you said that you're only correcting the color on the opening crawls.  So you're not recreating them from scratch?  Why not, too hard to get it just right?

Can someone refresh my memory... in that Executor shot... what is the context of the scene? Where is the Imperial fleet supposed to be during that shot?

(ie: a clue as to possible light sources)

They are sitting around waiting to hear from their probe droids.  The shot I mocked up immediately follows the same SD getting covered by the shadow of the SSD and is immediately before the huge reveal of the full ship.

I was taking screenshots for ImperialFighter, and I noticed something:

That shot of the Star Destroyer underneath the Executor that isn't shadowed is the same shot of the Star Destroyer that gets hit by the ion cannon, but its shadowed in that shot!

Maybe the element from the Hoth shot would be better suited for under the Executor.

It's hard to say. You could argue either way... without knowing the history of Boba, I would say that he was close to his father, and that wouldn't want to remove himself from his father by getting rid of his accent. But we could create a whole story line for why he changes it... lol

I've already been tempted once to write Expanded Universe for Revisited (like how did that Battle Droid get to the Sandcrawler?), don't make me think more about it.  It'd also be interesting to learn more about the planet the Death Star is orbiting in ANHR, what was it called?

U got that straight!!

Musicman...after listening to your little clippy there, I gotta say "Get the f**k outta here"

Only joking man, still think the original voice is by far the best. But I would say that, he's my great Uncle!

He probably would be a great uncle, but that's a weird comparison to make...

Wait, are you actually related to Wingreen?  That's pretty cool.  If only you were related to Morrison and could convince him to redo his voice for us...

What you could do is record him saying Jango Fett's lines, then we'd have Wingreen doing all of the masked Fetts!
