So I'm getting a dog/what pets do you have
Time

We have a two year old Silky Terrier named Berkeley.  Silkys are cousins to Yorkshire Terriers, but they get a bit bigger.  Berkeley is about 8 pounds now.  Originally my wife wanted to get him and I was against it, but she convinced me and now she’s mad because the dog likes me more than he does her!

Well, that’s an understatement.  I can’t go anywhere in the house without him following me and he sleeps next to me at night.  He also can’t stand it when I leave the house, or basically do anything where he can’t see me.  It’s like having a kid, but one I can keep in a kennel when I’m at work. ;-)

For Halloween my wife and I are planning on dressing as Leia and Han, and I’m considering making a bandolier so he can be mini-Chewie.  I’ll take pictures and post them to the inevitable Halloween thread.

Secondly, in the opening shot of Echo Base where Han rides up to the cavernous entrance on the Tauntaun, I don't recall if it was an SE addition or an Ady addition, but the Rebel Soldier standing straight up and holding the gizmo near the turret - well, he kinda looks mannequin-like. I think it's his "stillness" and his pose. I know he's "moving" in the shot, but in the span of the footage at a glance, he kind of looks like a cardboard cutout.

Every other element in that shot looks perfect. The guy with the cannon control box just isn't meshing as well.

The guy with the macrobinoculars is an Ady add from later on in the movie.  I think that the average viewer won't notice his not moving since they'll be watching Han entering the base in the background.  Our experienced eyes are drawn to that which is new since we've seen it so many times.  And if he did the exact movements that he does later on in the movie, it would be more obvious of a cut and paste job.  I imagine that he is just very vigilant!

also the idea of the ships shooting off into hyperspace (sorry i can't remember who suggested this) is a pretty good idea. i may include this.

That was me.  Yay for me!

it is going to be impossible to do the revisited saga in HD. I've been doing a lot of wok in FX testing (which i won't be showing since it looks fake) and because i will have to be using so much SD elements to create these edits, upscaling them to HD makes them stick out like a sore thumb. I just wouldn't be happy releasing anything that looks so inferior to what could be achieved by working in SD. I can't apologise enough but its a very difficult decision i had to make.

You know, as excited as I was for ESBRHD, it makes sense to have to have it scaled back down.  When people were asking about doing ANHRHD, I thought through all of the changes in the visual comparison, and wondered how you would be able to recreate any of that in HD when you used all of those elements from the GOUT.  And not being able to use ANYTHING from the GOUT would really hurt the final product of ESBRHD.

So I'm fine with ESBRSD.  I'm just as excited about it as I always was.

if someone could post a clip of it that would be great so everyone can see it. If I knew how to rip it I would.

If you want to do it quickly just to show people what you're describing, maybe just record it with a digital camera or something? :p You're showing us the scene, not the quality, so it doesn't matter if it's just a camera video.

If nobody gets to it this afternoon, I can post screenshots of it when I get home in a few hours.

I thought he had mentioned doing ANHR in HD on the ESBR thread any know for sure.

He had mentioned something about it being very cold in Hell before that happened, but halfway through his color correction only of the HD broadcast he hinted that it might happen.  I don't know how, Adywan used the GOUT too often to make it possible.  Erasing the Ronto from walking in front of the landspeeder required several layers of the GOUT that wouldn't scale to 1080p very well.  He'd also have to redo ALL of his CGI in HD, including all of the Rebel tactical readout as they watch the Battle of Yavin and the TIE approach...

He would basically be starting from scratch, having to recreate every single shot again.  I'm not discouraging him from doing it, its just that I wouldn't hope too much on it appearing out of nowhere.  It would be another two years of work.

I think this is getting to a point to where things are getting over analyzed. Some of the things that are getting pointed out have never ever bothered me, like the situation mentioned above with General Veers and Vader. No offense to you guys, it's just seems like your suggesting edits that are really unnecessary and make no sense. I think that alterations would be warranted if there is direct flaw with the FX or part of the story itself. The General Veers/ Vader scene mentioned above is not flawed technically or story wise, it was filmed that way.

No offense to you guys, but this is getting ridiculous.

I didn't really suggest I wanted it to be fixed, I was just going off topic to point out how funny I found it.

I've always thought how funny it is immediately after that line.

"Set your course for the Hoth System. GENERAL VEERS! Prepare your men."

The way he spins around to find Veers standing right next to him is funny. If Vader had spun around pointing at Veers thinking he was further away, he would have knocked him right over!

But that just might be me...

no you're not the only one. I still find that part HILARIOUS... it must have been hard for Vader to see him with that helmet. just as much as the automated targeting computers and how close they come to Wedge's face in A New Hope. i always imagine it hitting him in the face. it's the little things...

Glad I'm not alone.  Since I'm a screenshot fiend, I'll post what we're referring to:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a115/doubleofive/veers1.jpg

Vader is yelling to set their course for the Hoth system.  Vader turns his head to his right...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a115/doubleofive/veers2.jpg

The shot changes and pans over to revel GENERAL VEERS(!) who is way too close for comfort.

You'd think he'd be visable in the first shot, or at least moving to that position, cause it looks like he was standing there the whole time...

You know where i sit with this one Imperial Fighter ;-)

Though can i throw in the suggestion, the first mock up you posted shows six destroyers on screen, yes, but looks rather random, and as if they are are there for the sake of just being there to sell the shot. I know im being a little to analitical with a rough mock up shot (BTW).

Notice how Han can see that  "the fleets beggining to break up" just after, suggesting the stardestroyers follow a flight path of sort, therefore cloning and scaling of any one destroyer (to a degree) would be acceptable, or even needed (i dunno myself really, and is debatable i guess).

For example, i slightly doctored your image to show the armada, with a scence of flying in formation just not totally universal, without being too in your face, if you get my gist!

EDIT) Which sounds totally arse after paying a bit more attention to your second mock up as that sort of gets what i was going at (i got a bit excitable after the first shot, sorry). Though, its interesting that you didnt clone any of the destroyers whatsoever.

Solo, that last set weren't mock ups.  The set on this page are merely unaltered screenshots of what's actually in the movie.  ILM threw those 5 Star Destroyers in that shot, which float around aimlessly the whole time.  ILM forgot that three Star Destroyers were headed towards the Executor with only two in the next shot.  These are things that need to be fixed, but we posted them to point out the huge number of Destroyers that are already in the movie.

Just a note: I try to mark my mockups with "Mock-up by doubleofive" so that people don't think its either an unaltered shot or an official Adywan screenshot.  To avoid confusion like this. ;-)

Hi, I created this account just to ask you something. I just saw your edition of the first Star Wars and seeing that you are redoing the second one, I really have to ask if something would be possible for you to modify.

It is something that has always bugged me about the movie since I saw it in 1980 in theaters and every time I saw it on videos after. Maybe you have addressed it already, I didn't know how I could find it in the 108 pages here.

When the rebels escape from the snow planet at the beginning, you have that huge canon fire a gigantic laser bolt at the imperial ship coming in on them (you have it pictured a few posts back). You expect something awesome to happen but all you see is a bunch of electric-like bolts surrounding the ship's model and it drifts away. I mean, I understand that back then they needed to keep that huge model intact for many more shots and that was an economical way of doing things but it just looks awful and cheap. It's something that Richard Edlund did on many gigs.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards.  Hope you stick around.

The thing with the cannon is that its an "ion" cannon, meant to short circuit all of the systems on the ships, not destroy them.  It may have been the Rebellion's way of reducing innocent casualties even for their enemies.

I'm not so sure about "not enough Imperial presence".  One of the things the films deal with thematically is the Empire's arrogance, that just the fact that they're there should be enough to scare people.  To that end, they don't send everything they've got to every battle, just what they think will be needed for the situation.  All they expected to be escaping from Hoth was a couple of slow, bulky transports, a few fighters and the Falcon.  From the Empire's perspective, the Falcon was the only one that was a challenge - the rest were fish in a barrel.

I feel the same way, the SSD was enough "Shock and awe." Put it in any fleet and thats enough presence in my opinion.

But if you'll all notice, we didn't add any additional Star Destroyers to the fleet.  It's just that after Shot 001, we added what those same ships should look like to "deploy the fleet so nothing gets off the system."  The only Star Destroyer we see in the blockade is all alone, then gets ion cannoned.  There should be at least 2 others according to previous shots of Vader's fleet, plus the Executor but we don't see any of them until they are chasing the Falcon to and through the asteroid field.  Then there's at least 3 others unless they fixed the ion cannoned ship, with two collidiing or nearly doing so.  Then there's 2 next the Executor, then one gets destroyed in the asteroid field, then there's 2 near the Executor, then 3 go off into hyperspace.  We have evidence of more than one Star Destroyer at Hoth with as many as 7 if they couldn't repair those that were damaged, so I think a more impressive blockade of Hoth might at least show one Star Destroyer in the background not getting disabled.

The thing is with the interior of the ship is that they're looking out what is shown to be the side of the bridge, not the front, so unless the Star Destroyer was orbiting the planet sidewides, the shot doesn't work currently.

And just to be clear, I just did what I was told concerning these shots.  I like all of the Hoth shots we posted, but I'm not so sure about the Bespin ones.  I believe that I ended up agreeing with Savage on the point, but ImperialFighter (and me too) was just trying to show Adywan all of the opportunities he could take.

It's like a great burden has been lifted off my shoulders.  I feel sorry for those on dial up, but Adywan said we could post them however big we wanted!

Looks great, ImperialFighter.  It was an honor working with you.

I just want to take this opportunity to point out that in shot 46, you can totally see through the X-Wing.  And I also think its selfish that Luke is flying away from Hoth all alone, instead of escorting any transports, but that would be pretty hard to do.

Ideas Wanted: How would you alter Star Trek 10? [Possible 56k warning // Images]

I despise the space battle at the end the least.  It's the only reason I watch the movie.  To see the Enterprise-E firing every possible weapon trying to find the cloaked Scimitar is one of my favorite images of all the movies.  I still giggle when they get the report on the bridge that they are out of torpedoes.

Then they ruin the whole scene by ramming the Scimitar and ruin that by having Data jump from one ship to the other.  Then they ruin... well, you get the picture.

Of course, if Ady can sculpt Ponda Baba's flipper, he could definately sculpt horns for a wampa.  That would solve the HD problem, and he could make them look however he liked.

ImperialFighter - email me if you're having size problems with those pictures.  There should only be two sizes: "ImpFightxxx" should be full size 480p and "ImpFightxxx-1" should be the smaller version.  All of the codes should read like: [ url=http://blahblahblah/ImpFightxxx.jpg ] [ img=http://blahblahblah/ImpFightxxx-1.jpg ] [ /url ] except for "First" through "Fourth", which are backwards.
