STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

So I was looking at the thread about the changes in Vader's suit and was directed to the Secret History of Star Wars site's area about Vader. There I found these quotes:

Return of the Jedi gave us some slight modifications as well, notably a further enhancement of the vocal flanging to make it seem more processed and electronic than in Empire Strikes Back, perhaps because the unmasking scene at the end would reveal a design that shows that Vader's natural voice is processed and amplified through an electronic system.

...

Finally, Star Wars was altered where possible to match the depiction seen in the subsequent entries--James Earl Jones' voice was enhanced for the 2004 DVD release to sound more like the electronic version of Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith .

I know Ady said that he modified Vader's voice in the ANHR DVD-9, but me being the dense person I am have not been able to notice the difference.

Ady, are you going to modify Vader's voice in ESBR to match RotJ, or does ANHR match ESB so now you need to unprocess RotJR? Not like I ever noticed the difference, but I'm just curious.

I love seeing the previews/teasers. Keep em coming!

OK. your wish is my command. lol

Here's another comparison but this time its a Bespin scene. Enjoy (oh and ignore the scrap room scene because the colour isn't finished yet & there's a glitch in the colour correction in one shot that drops the brightness for a frame, but i'll be fixing that.)

BESPIN COMPARISON - XVID RAPIDSHARE 47mb approx

Adywan is like my personal genie, for this is not the first time he has followed my suggestions in the same day (see June 12, 2008: Adywan posts a split screen comparison because I suggested it).

thankyou for clearing that up guys! i see ady has been a busy busy man! my net connection is super SLOW so i spent over a week downloading the xvid version which you've labeled first draft. are there any differances between the drafts? (on youtube i saw a version where we see bail and jar jar on alderaan - not a fan)

also after readin the stickies i came across the B&P method. anyone on here from the UK who would be wiling to help this humble pilgrim? cursed as i am with such slow internet.

-doodie

The Extended Alderaan Destruction sequence is not in any version of the film, but extended and added as a bonus feature deleted scene on the DVD-9.

Here are the differences which are listed on Fanedits.com (which I wrote, actually):

DVD-5
Changes from the Xvid:

- Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
- Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
- Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
- Ponda Baba's arm swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
- Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
- Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
- Typos in the credits fixed

DVD-9
Changes from the DVD-5:
- Replaced "fixed shot" where gun was added to the Death Star Control Room to prevent a continuity error and erased a gun from the following shot. Now there are three guns on the rack after our heroes leave the droids behind.
- Remixed Vader's voice even further to match the rest of the trilogy(?)

PURIST
Changes from the full version:
- Changed 3PO's line back to "There'll be no excape for the princess this time"
- Re-edited Obi-Wan's Hut scene back to its original version
- Removed the extended Death Star reveal
- Removed the extended TIE Fighter reveal
- Removed all music not originally found in the film

So the DVD-5 really isn't so much of a "second draft" as it is a pretty much final draft with one, maybe two tweaks. Adywan really doesn't remember exactly what changed, but the bonus features are the real draw to the DVD-9 (or DVD DL or dual layer DVD).

PURIST is Revisited with 3PO's line restored to "no escape for the Princess this time", Obi-Wan's scene unedited, the extended Death Star reveal and Death Star attack removed, and no prequel/sequel music. Everything else is the same, including Alderaan's explosion (which is from Stargate SG-1, actually).

This information is also available here.

It seems there is no way to get further off topic than we are right now.

So, Adywan, what has been your toughest shot to color correct so far? And maybe could you do another Photoshop file showing all the layers just in your color correction?

Restrict the editing of posts
Time

I would not "lock first posts by default" as Adywan and others have used the first post for general information, which is beyond helpful. However, "allow additional text, but original post text cannot be deleted" would be interesting, if you could work it out. That way we would be able to see what they first posted and what people are commenting about on that first page, but they would be able to have "9/19/2008 UPDATE" where they could add screenshots or links or whatever.

EDIT: This of course would not allow us to fix typos, rephrase ourselves unless we did something like this.

EDIT2: I should have put a slash between "typos" and "rephrase" or rephrased the whole thing. OR maybe I should think before I push "post". That might fix a lot of everyone's editing problems.

Check it out IF. The DLs have ALL of the extras, the SLs have a FEW of the extras and still have motion menus and stuff. The PURIST is the only one with no menus or anything bonus at all.

As for the PAL DL, I don't remember, since as you well know, I don't have to deal with the 4% speedup. But the PAL SL does have SOME extras and menus, just not all of them.

I tried to cover all of this on OT's FanEdits.com, but it looks like there have been some tweaks to them.

When and in what format was the first time you saw Star Wars?
Time

ken's story reminded me of how impressed I was when I saw the SE in theaters. I kept looking at the sides of the screen, noticing hundreds of new things they must have added! Only later did I realize that they didn't add that much, they were always there I just never saw them on my fullscreen VHS!

Now that I think about it, since I don't own the GOUT, I've never seen the OOT in widescreen...

I thought the goal of this site was to get the original versions of The Star Wars Trilogy Epiosdes 4,5, and 6 on DVD and blu-ray
Time

And how do you suppose we go about doing this? I feel that the 2006 "Bonus Discs" were a direct result of this website. If we cry that they need to release the original versions, they'll say "We already did, buy it."

If the Star Wars movies make it to Blu Ray before the format ends (whenever that may be), I won't buy them unless its an all-encompassing record of every release, audio track, bonus feature, commentary, and what have you, like the Blade Runner set. It would be pointless to have the 2004 versions again.

Now that i think of it, why does it have a red/orange glow, was it ment like that, or an accident during post production?

i'm not sure but the stardestroyer engines in ESB don't have the blue glow they have in ANH and have a orange glow now too, so i guess it was intentional.

You are changing them all to blue even though it seems intentional, right? Continuity!

I don't suppose there's any "official" cover art for this? I've gots lots of possibilities, but nothing that screams perfection...

As Ripplin points out, there are plenty of possiblities, but nothing can beat an original painting by the editor himself.

Time

We don't have an official list yet (Adywan is working on it, I think).

Basically, my understanding is that it comes down to an un-Special Edition with some tweaks here and there.

The 2004 Emperor voice will remain, but the dialog will be modified to match as closely as possible the original dialog. The bad Revenge of the Sith makeup job will be replaced with modified video/images from Return of the Jedi (see the ESB Revisited Teaser Trailer).

Windows in Cloud City will remain open for the most part, with windows that disappear all of a sudden remaining open.

Boba's voice will be changed back to the original, and Jango's helmeted voice will be modified in some way in Attack of the Clones Revisited.

There will be no noticable score, plot, or pacing changes as for the most part ESB is already perfect.

Now this is all to my understanding of Ady's past posts. There might be other changes he's willing to share shortly. Part of me wants to know every tweak he's going to do, the rest of me wants to be surprised. I think the "know-everything" part will win though. It's in my nature.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread
Time

I just watched the season premiere today on Hulu (the wife lost interest during the strike).

I have to say that it was pretty emotionally charged, more about feelings than actual events. I'm not sure how they're going to explain all of the Terminators having hands in pretty much every event that lead up to the creation of Skynet. Talk about messing with the timeline. I supposed an advanced AI has gone through all the ways this could go wrong and still went through with it.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a115/doubleofive/Terminator/th_TerminatorTimeline.jpg

I made this timeline comparison last season to explain to my wife and friends how things are flowing in the different movie/TV show timelines.

EDIT: Updated to Season 2, Episode 2 ("Automatic for the People")

well the colour correction on Empire is coming along nicely. Vaders saber is again red and not pink. The walls in Cloud City are no longer blue. But there are many shots where most of the colour information is almost gone. I've said it before, and i'll say it again: Whoever did the colour restoration on these movies needs to be shot. I'll post some more screenshots later

So are you just color correcting Vader's saber to be red, or are you going to go through and redo all of the sabers and laser blasts like you did with ANHR?

I'm recolouring the red for now, just for the AVCHD version, but for revisited i will be re-rotoscoping all the sabers

Excellent! I don't envy you re-rotoscoping the carbonite pit duel with all the smoke. I still can't believe they were able to do that by hand back then!
