STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

The film clearly shows all of the probes shot out of the Star Destroyer at the beginning going off in different directions, I'm thinking one for each habitable planet in the system.

We then see one by itself, head down to the planet and impact the surface.

A few minutes later we see another object head down and impact with the EXACT SAME SMOKE PATTERN in the EXACT SAME LOCATION.

I always assumed that the opening sequence happened, then we see what we just saw from Luke's perspective.

There would be a few ways to close this up neatly:

1. If its the same impact, leave it exactly as it is.

2. If its another probe droid, have more than one headed in the same direction and head down to the planet in the opening. Also change the smoke pattern and landing site.

3. If its just a random meteorite, everything about it should be changed (smoke, landing site, fireball).

Those are my thoughts on the subject.

(all shots taken from August 1's 1080p preview of ESBR)

Work is just flying along at the moment. I've even been able to re-create the original Emperor scene in HD for my AVCHD release of Empire. I posted the link in that thread but if anyone wants to see it then here is the link:

ESB ORIGINAL EMPEROR SCENE 1080P AC3 5.1 .ts stream

I just got to watch it, and the quality and colors are incredible, as usual. How did you get the original Emperor to scale up to 1080p? And are you still planning on doing the RotJ Ian McDiarmond face with the ESB:04 lips for Revisited?

Sweet stuff!

I have a couple questions about ESB: I've always wondered, at the first of the movie, it shows the pod crash and the probe droid comes out, then it shows another pod crash when Luke is talking to Han on the radio. Is that supposed to be the same probe droid or did several of them land on Hoth?

Another thing, the part where they close the rebel base giant blast door, why is there such a build up to that? It seems like its supposed to be really epic.

I've always been under the impression that they were the same crash. But that may be just me.

And the blast door was a big deal because Han and Luke were still out there. It wasn't the door so much as who was outside of it.

“I plan on completing the whole saga. I haven't really made any plans for them yet apart from the fact that C-3PO won't be built by Anakin or even seen in the prequels until Revenge of the Sith, and Return of the Jedi will have a new ending,” he said.

Really? No 3PO until RotS? Iiiiiinteresting. Our first clue to the extensiveness of the prequel edits. Any more revelations you want to share with us?

3. Boba Fett's original voice restored
4. Shortened Wampa scene
5. Removal of ALL SE elements of Vaders shuttle leaving Bespin & docking with the Stardestroyer
34. ALL SE additions of the Imperial shuttle removed

Why?

bkev said:

Because he can, and it helps the flow of the movie. Well, #3 doesn't; but it's personal taste.

Yeah, #3 actually ruins the flow of the movie. Boba Fett is supposed to be a clone of jango and should have the same voice. I always disliked the original voice anyway. But why would the wampa scene be shortened? The SE wampa scene was perfect. I think it should be extended. The other two wont be missed I guess, but the more FX, the better.

We've already had this conversation and had every possible argument stated, defended, and rebuked, so I wouldn't worry about it. The end point is that Temura Morrison literally phoned in his dialog for the DVD, while the previous voice actor actually sounded like he was acting. Adywan actually plans to redub or distort helmeted Jango in Attack of the Clones: Revisited to keep continuity in his own special way.

As for the Wampa, I always liked the Wampa more mysterious, and seeing him chomping away on bloody meat is really distracting. Ady agrees.

I prefer it without his extra line.

Me too. :)

Can I get a 'me three'?

Definitely agree there...

After watching the film sooooo many times, it was like a wtf moment when I first heard the line. But then, so were a lot of the SE changes...oh well

Honestly, I like the line. It explains why 3PO thinks this is suicide when they've lost all the trailing fighters.

The new clip looks amazing. De-bluing the asteroids out the windows of the Falcon immediately made a difference, making the asteroids look more solid (at least to me). I also like the SD bridge shaking, so they don't all fall over for no reason at all (or it was a REALLY stable camera on the bridge there). I can't wait to see what further tweaks you do to these scenes, especially the retraced lasers and better matted explosions.

Where can I find a COMPLETE list of video changes between 04 and Theatrical OT
Time
csd79 said:

I think you won't find a COMPLETE list. All three movies contains subtle changes, some of them can be find only by frame-to-frame comparison. In 'Star Wars', lots of composite effect shots were redone by digital composition, some of them slightly differently, or a few frames longer etc. In 'Empire' and 'Jedi', lots of shots were edited down to make room for SE footage. One way to make a good comparison is by assembling a split-screen version of the films (which I did in Avisynth - loong edit list).

Its interesting that they went through and digitally recomposited so many effects, but there are still transparency and matte line issues. You'd think they'd fix them all...

Well, because its still going to be a while before i can get back to work on the edit i thought i'd post a clip of something i was working on but abandoned in the early stages:

ABANDONED CLIP

Nice to see that the windows can be "closed" and it not be immediately noticable. Still can't wait to see how you manage to keep the big window "open" the whole time...

I didn't say anything about it being wrong, did I? I just asked that, since there are different versions, will he use that one or another. ;)

Edit: In the time it took me to type that, 005 answered with some nice specifics. :) I agree about the excitement factor. They're not Vulcans; they get excited about things, and there are versions that sound a little more...emotive.

"Fascinating. It seems that Imperial troops have entered the base. It would be logical to retreat."

just for those who want to see an AT-AT shooting green

for some reason couldn't get it to appear in preview so posted link as well

incidently i'm pretty good with photoshop - but this colour change was a bitch
the filter that changes the red to green also changes blue to red
so where the green of the red of the laser meets the blue of the sky the feathering on the mask is crazily hard to get right
and to do the same on a moving target would certainly drive me nuts - so i think ady's decision to leave alone is a sensible one

i actually ended up wiping the lasers out and redrawing them from scratch

Nice going! I wanted to take pretty much that same shot and try my hand at the green, but I didn't have the time.

I really don't think the red/green lasers is that big of a deal, but it is an option since Ady is (probably) going to trace over every bolt again anyway. But if the ships and walkers shoot green, why do all the blasters shoot the same color, especially since Clones shot a different color than Battle Droids in the PT? Its a slippery slope, it seems, a slope that if Ady was going to start, would have started it in ANHR.

Personally, I don't think he sounds excited enough. Its just a short statement, then its done. How professional can you get, instead of being a rag-tag group of Rebels. Same with "Imperial troops have entered the base. Imperial troops have--" I vote for different versions, whether from an alternate film mix, the radio drama, or a cameo by one of us. ;-)

Before I say this, I just want to point out that I know it's impossible to do. I just want to see if this bugs anyone else as much as it bugs me.

Having said that, I'd very much like to see C-3PO's "stomach" wiring be made consistent throughout all 3 films. It's not such a dramatic change from ANH to ESB, but then in ROTJ it's suddenly gold and silver straight lines as opposed to actual wires. WTF? That's something that bothered me when I first saw the movies when I was 6. I could never understand why they'd make such a dramatic change. That was before I knew of several other changes that had been made throughout the trilogy, though, like Vader's suit and lightsaber hilt. It still doesn't make any of those changes make sense to me.

With all the drastic character redesigns in RotJ, we'd be better off just scrapping the whole thing, even if you don't really notice them. It took me a while to notice that Chewie was different, but I've never noticed 3P0. Of course, now I will. Which is the problem with looking at these movies too hard. Eventually the errant snowflakes/sand/twig is all you see...

Can you please do something with the distractingly large, unnatural (hey it's ALL unnatural I know!) 'orange glow' that occurs when a very small asteroid collides into the large 'crater' of the huge 'potato-shaped' asteroid, just after Han replies to C3PO, 'Never tell me the odds'.

Perhaps either put in some 'sparking debris' on it's impact, or get rid of the small asteroid, it's shadow, and subsequent 'orange glow' altogether! Either way would be preferable to what is there at the moment. Thanks.

Adywan - The 'glowing' asteroid thing that Monroville and others commented on recently was something I mentioned way back on page 31 of this thread.

While it's not a big deal, it's something bigger than some of the subtler things you've attended to previously, and seems an over-the-top effect for such a small asteroid impact into the bigger one.... Maybe you could consider even 'toning' the resulting explosion down a tad, or make the tiny asteroid a little bigger....

Just a last thought on that.

My vote is for the larger asteroid to EXPLODE in an expanded scene where we see two slugs looking sadly towards the incoming shockwave and the pieces of the asteroid narrowly avoid slamming against a passing TIE.

Or not.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I finally got to have a full showing of ANHR. It was with my wife and the girl who introduced her to Star Wars, meaning that she indirectly was responsible for me meeting my wife! They liked it, there were a few "Wows" and a couple "Why didn't Lucas fix that before?"s.

My wife loves the Extended Alderaan Destuction Sequence, even though she likes Jar Jar. I don't get it.
