The episodes are 16:9 (HDTV ratio) originally, not 2:35:1 (film ratio).

I respectfully disagree. I compared screen caps, and the opening of the Sky HD version shows all the stars that CN shows (i.e. full height), plus more on both sides. I sincerely doubt the creators would make a 2.35:1 opening starfield for release to British TV, and then crop the show itself. It's probably possible to confirm this by comparing some shots from the show -- something I might do tonight.

Just because I'm that big a nerd, yo.

So the 16:9 letterbox on the SD channel is actually CROPPED from a 2:35:1 HD master?  That would be weird.  Maybe my CNHD is the same way, but I swear they were really long in the face.

I just checked the Cartoon Network website, and their full episodes are shown in 16:9:

The DVD of episodes that is coming out has them listed as being 16:9 also.

I have a theory.  Maybe the opening starfield on Sky is from the movie which was 2.35:1.  Then the rest in stretched.  I'll have to DVR and compare again, but with pictures (am I nerdy enough to take photos of my TV?  Yes, I am.)

It will be interesting to compare shots from the CN SD, CN HD, and SkyHD.  When does TNT start showing them?  I have them in SD and HD also.

Adywan's ESB edit: Suggestion Terminal

Right before Vader's conversation with the Emperor's hologramme/before Vader's flagship went out of the asteroid field for better transmission, there was a Star Destroyer that had one of those big balls destroyed by an asteroid. However the explosion caused looked like a dust explosion or something. What about this?

Don't worry about it my friend, its on the list here:

0:52:16 - When an asteroid hits the command tower on a Star Destroyer, the tower just magically dissolves belong the explosion element

And Adywan has expressed his displeasure with the shot.  By the way, the whole top of the Star Destroyer is blown off, which is why in the next shot there's an officer covering his face as his communication (and his life) ends.

The episodes are 16:9 (HDTV ratio) orignally, not 2:35:1 (film ratio).

I noticed that CN stretches everything on their HD channel (which makes me mad to no end), so when I saw that Clone Wars was "Available in High Definition" I DVRed an episode to see if it was right.  Instead of the 16:9 image that is letterboxed on the SD channel, the HD image was cropped so that most of the letterbox bars were gone, but the image was still stretched and therefore still looked like crap.  I don't get it.  If you get a 16:9 show created in HD, then advertise that it's available in HD, why would you still take the SD signal, crop it badly, then stretch it?  I still DVR the SD version because I'd rather watch the OAR with black bars all the way around than watch ANYTHING stretched at all.

I wrote Cartoon Network about it.  Let's see what they say.

Alright, mine's a western. Two middle aged former Texas rangers have a ranch on the border. They decide that they can run a bunch of cattle up north and settle a place up there. Just before they leave, another former Texas Ranger stops by and offers to come along, but little do they know he is wanted out of Arkansas for killing a man who happened to be the brother of the Sheriff in that community. So the old Rangers start out on their journey and many tales can ensue regarding the group. Eventually, one of the old Texas Rangers die from an Indian raid, the other Ranger preserves his body and establishes the ranch. When the ranch in finally settled, he takes the body of the other Ranger back to Texas to be buried by a creek. The kicker is that this could be an EPIC like a trilogy or maybe even four parts. Lots of stories to tell in this one saga. Sounds great don't it.

Movies about baseball never work.

Since we are on the scene of the three SD's colliding, I thought it would a good time to mention these suggestions (if they haven't been mentioned before).

1. While looking out the front windows of the bridge of the Star Destroyer we should (shouldn't we?) see the main hull of the ship (the nose), but we don't. On the Executor as well, we should most definitely see the hull through the windows since it is much longer.

2. In the interior shot of the Star Destroyers Shield collision, near the bottom of the screen one of the computer console set pieces comes away from the wall and is pushed back into place by the extra.

I must confess to not noticing the wonky console before, perhaps rather than trying to stabilise the console it might be more fun to add some sparks and small explosions to create the impression that the vibration that Ady has so skillfully added has caused real damage to the bridge controls.

Ady's attention to detail continues to amaze me and the new captures look truly incredible.

Keep up the good work.

Yes, that's a great idea!

For those making fun of poor ImpFighter, if you think his attention to detail is insane, you haven't seen his shot requests!

7. At 35:48, can you show middle of above shot, just at a point where we only see a part of the Millennium Falcon's rear-half (as it goes offscreen towards us , on the bottom-right of the frame), and where the 'Avenger' has overlapped underneath the other Stardestroyer now, but where TIE laserbolts don't obscure this overlap yet.

=

This is just a random example of how exact his descriptions are.  The timing is PAL (wow the movie goes by a lot faster for you guys) and he writes the descriptions from just pausing his DVD player!  I think its impressive that he doesn't even view this stuff side by side, he just remembers what has come before and how it could fit better.

Admittedly, sometimes its a little much, but if he didn't do it, no one else would!

Computer Help
Time

The only way I got rid of that on a computer was to reinstall the OS.  Sorry bud.

Funny story.  This computer had already crashed a couple years ago and they paid a ton of money to get it repaired and lost all of the their personal data.  I opened up the case to see inside and there was their old hard drive, in perfect working order with all of their files on it!  They paid me to fix it and let me keep the hard drive (only 20 GB, but I've been keeping my copies of Revisited on there so my wife doesn't complain about the full main drive).

I knew the avalanche of videos would have to stop sometime.  We already have more than we did for ANHR and we probalby aren't halfway through it!  I can't wait for a fully-functional trailer.  I think you should use the announcer audio from the SE trailers.  I really like the "And a few new surprises."  It would really work well with your trailer, I'm sure!

I noticed a continuity mistake that would be hard to fix.  After the interrogation scene where Joker tells Batman where Harvey and Rachel are, Batman says he's going after Rachel but he goes after Harvey.  Then later in the film, there's a reference to those same addresses for the final confrontation with Harvey.  So which one do you change, and how?

The Joker gave Batman the wrong address so that Batman would lose whoever he really wanted to save.  Or did I miss them mentioning it again?

Ideas Thread: for... The Dark Knight edits
Time

This is like the Crystal Skull Edit thread, as I’m not going to be able to do this myself (a lack of tools, not knowhow), but I wanted to make a thread suggesting how we might trim down the already-great Dark Knight into something maybe a bit better… or at least different.

Things you didn’t think work well?  Things that went on too long?  Tweaks to existing scenes?  Throw them out here!

For example, I think there are a few scenes that could be excised with some work.

I loved that The World’s Greatest Detective did some detective work in this movie, but the thing with the shattered bullet was just too much.

  1. What kind of 3D scanner could see bullet fragments in a brick?
  2. How could that same scanner get the fragments of fingerprint off of each piece and put them back together?
  3. Wouldn’t the fingerprint be way too partial on the actually bullet part since you push mostly on the shell as you’re putting it in?
  4. Why would Batman assume that the fingerprint on the bullet would belong to someone who lives along the parade route / why would the Joker assume that Batman would assume or even be able to figure that out?

It’s obvious the Joker knew someone would figure it out since he had the telescope and blinds on a timer.  It would be nice if one of the dead people in the room with the bullet lived at the address on the parade route, because that would make much more sense.  The Joker killed someone to take over their apartment, and figured the irony of the last names made it even better.

Also, I feel that Bruce taking the ballet away was unnecessary, because he doesn’t really need an excuse to leave.  Also, what did all these Russian ballerinas think when a plane lands in the water next to them and Bruce swims over and they never see him again?  It could cut from Bruce and Alfred talking about the plane to the shot over the city, or even from Lucius and Bruce talking and cut from the line about “Now that’s more like it” to the city which would leave a bit more mystery as to what they’re talking about.

Another thing I’d like to see is a version of the movie with the IMAX scenes from Disc 2 of the DVD in their original 1.44:1 aspect ratio, not the all-theatrical version on the DVD or even the 16:9 crop for the Blu Ray.

Again, this is just a thread for suggestions.  Maybe we’ll inspire someone to take it up!

If your's isn't something like 9 GB, its the DVD5/second draft, which only has one or two tiny fixes undone and no bonus features besides text commentary.  It is compressed, but not so much that you would notice.  Don't worry about it, just burn a Data DVD with the files and see what comes out of your DVD player!

Alright, your problem with Nero when it was complaining was that you were trying to author your own DVD using the files you downloaded, which isn't what you needed.  The data DVD is definiately the option you want to choose.

As for DVD5 vs DVD9, its all in what file you downloaded. The DVD9 file is well over the 4.3 GB the DVD5 file is.  You wouldn't be able to burn the DVD9 file on the DVD5, so just burn what you can and it should be alright.

2009: State of Star Wars
Time

My state of Star Wars?

I saw the Clone Wars movie in theaters, and though I thought it was underwhelming I gave the show a try and am enjoying it so far.  But honestly if it wasn't for Revisited, I think I'd be full-on in my Star Trek kick (I tend to drift in and out of the franchises; this is the first time I've been genuinely excited about both).

I'll give the live action show a shot (if the franchise isn't run into the ground by then and it still gets made), but the books lost me about halfway through the prequel release timeframe, as I realized that Lucas didn't give a rat's patootie about the books, so why should I?

Looking through an archive of the Official Site's GOUT vs DVD comparison, and I noticed this:

Not only did they use the same hallway for the SE shot of people wandering, but they used the SAME SE HALLWAY with the same buildings in the background.

Dears,

I rode that on the begining of a little video from Youtube (A George Lucas interview):

- "Georges Lucas, always wanting to cash in, released Adywan's version with his name on it. However Lucas still prefers his own crappy special edition"

It is the 4th video on this page

Anybody knows what does it mean ? Is it a fake interview ?

Its a fake video, using Lucas' frequent awkward pauses to make it look like he doesn't know how to react to Revisited.  It's pretty funny.
