One last thing Ady, why are you using Boba's original voice, as much as i like it, he is a clone & should have the same voice as his Dad (himself), & the 2004 "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival" is much beter than "Bring my shuttle", granted he sounds more p****d off, but i prefere it personally, & i don't see the need to remove the Imperial shuttle docking with the SSD, it looks cool, & isn't out of place, why did you decide to do this?

Great work truly great work, i enjoyed ANH:R & Sketch thank you very much, unbelievable tht you would donate to this project!

For the voicework, it comes down to the actors. Morrison literally did his over the phone, and there is no way that Vader's line came from "a deleted scene from A New Hope". As for the shuttle, its pacing. We assume that Vader makes it back to the ship and focus on the escape in 1980. Now we take random breaks from the action to see that, yes, Vader does make it to his ship, and gets off to talk to the same people that great him at the start of the next movie.

I think they are welcome reversions.

It seems Lucas like to flip scenes around and hope no one will notice.

I am assuming correctly that these scenes are flipped again.

I was going to start crying that you keep pointing out new flaws, but I pointed this out a long time ago, and I think Ady said he was doing something about it.

So that's good.

The red glow in the AT-AT interiors. Thanks for doing that mock-up. that has really helped put my point across that adding red lighting to the interiors will look fake. This is really something that doesn't need doing.

NooooOOOooooo! :( ;)

Just kidding, while I really like the idea and the mock-up, it would probably be a bit distracting inside the movie, indeed.

(But to be 100% logic, if you don't add that red light to the interior, it shoud be erased from the exterior of the AT-AT... but it would probably be too much work for such a detail anyway)

That's the plan!

Awesome to hear that you liked the ion cannon concept, and indeed, most of the concepts that vaderios and Bingo have been throwing around. Hopefully you like some of the RotJ stuff they've been throwing around also.

What about Vader's Force choke of Lando? I know its not important, but I'd love to know if things I've come up with (Rebel Transport jumping to hyperspace, etc) actually might make it into the final cut... I'm just being selfish realy. :-)

I'm also going to be building a new wampa head with horns, shoulders & arms to replace the original puppet. this way i can also replace the weird looking wampa shot as it lunges at luke in the cave. I'm starting work on that later in the week so as soon as that is finished i will post some photos.

Have you thought of getting in touch with someone who has built various Wampas in the past? Such as Tom Spina whom I know from The Replica Props Forum http://www.tomspinadesigns.com/Sculpture.html. Scroll down to the sixth row. I also remember he built a full size Wampa a while back.

Wow, that guys really good. I wonder if Ady could borrow some stuff from him, like the Wampa, or that Jabba and Max Rebo Band. Wish they were puppets though...

The Clone Wars (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Watched an episode on TNT HD, and its 16:9 too. Still strange that both HD channels in the US and the DVD sets are showing them in 16:9 but they're 2.35:1 in England. What is the purpose of doing that?

I have the same problem with Star Trek Remastered. CBS Digital rendered all of the new FX shots in 16:9, but the last time I checked the only way to see the shots in that ratio were on Xbox LIVE where the live action is 4:3 and the effects are 16:9. CBS.com, iTunes, HD DVD, DVD, Blu Ray, they're all in 4:3 exclusively. Why work so hard on something no one is going to be able to see?

It'd be hard/impossible for us to all be filmed at just the right angle and keep it the same for everyone all over the world. But it would be cool to try.

For me you can put a mockup in the movie like in the ANH that ILM put a playboy in the tantive's cockpit. ;P

I'll be disappointed if one of your mockups/mattes isn't IN the movie. As for me, I just want to know if I pointed out something that otherwise wouldn't have been changed, and knowing that it was me who suggested it.

I think Adywan plans for an all new matte. Not sure if he'll use the live action boxes there, but that would be awesome. Seeing how Adywan is getting the HD camera, I wouldn't be surprised if he built a model docking bay and ships to go in it.

Either way, I think if we do mockups for the docking bay, we should be matteing AROUND the live action shots.

Why on earth would they have worked so hard on transparent shadows? I mean, someone had to have looked at that while they were doing it and said "hey, this doesn't seem right..."

Great work, as usual. Glad to know that Luke's bobbing head is gone. It was one of those things I always noticed after it being pointed out.

Just becuase you all hate the prequels and anything else that came out post 83 doesnt mean you shouldnt still enjoy whatever is left. I for one think theyve ruined the Bond franchise with the last two movies. Are they decent spy movies? Sure but they arent Bond movies. I still enjoy the movies that came before though. Im not going to let the fact that holloywood needed to gut the franchise of any Bond like things to make ordinary spy movies that appealed to a wider audience stop me from enjoying Goldeneye and any other Bond movie.

So just becuase you think Star Wars went in some direction you didnt care for dont let it stop you from enjoying A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, three of the best movies ever made.

Then there are some people like me who couldn't get into Bond before the new movies (my screenname is from my GoldenEye 007 on N64 days, still haven't seen the movie), but I'm at least willing to give all of them a shot now. It doesn't make the point this thread is trying to get to, but I'm sure some people got into Star Wars through the prequels.

An interesting thread from Blu-Ray.com (no Blu-Rays yet)
Time

I think if Lucas really had all of the VFX elements, he should have actually gone through and recomposited EVERYTHING. There are way too many transparent mattes that could be elminated 100% if he actually had them. I'm sure he still has the CG files, but this whole thing comes from a post on a thread.

I don't think Lucas has the original VFX. It may not be true, but that's what I think.

Is there any way just to order it from the american website and have it shipped to the UK? Even with a 6% sales tax, it shouldn't come out to more than $636.00. If you have someone over here you know you can trust, if Amazon.com doesn't ship to the Uk someone here could buy it at the cheaper price and then ship it to you. I know that's a big risk, but $636 is a lot better than essentially $1009.85 (at least converted through xe.net)

Also, I take it that the US version is locked at the 24fps rate, or can it be altered between different frame rate settings?

well i had been thinking about that but it really isn't viable for me to do it this way. for one it can be a nightmare to transfer the warranty from the US to the UK and if anything went wrong i would be stuck with a dead machine . many large companies refuse to do humour and American warranty in the UK. Then there's the chance that i get heavily taxed by customs but the main thing is that the NTSC version suffers with the jerky footage when using the 24p mode. The PAL version does suffer with this problem. The thing is that the NTSC machine runs at 30p & 60i. For cinema mode it records at 60i then converts the footage inside the camera in 24p cinema mode which causes the duplicate frames or applied pulldown because 60 is not divisible by 24. now the PAL machine does 25p cinema mode. the cameras main setting record at 25p & 50i. Because of this no extra frames are added so this results in smooth motion. It would be too much hassle trying to figure out a way to remove the duplicate frames from the NTSC model to be able to use the footage. Plus the voltage differences for the power supply is also a problem between our 2 countries.

The Pal machine purchased from a UK company is the only viable option.

I've got down to needing just slightly under £200 to get this machine now. i'm hoping i can get it pretty soon because the place i was going to purchase from have gone down from 6 left in stock to just 4 in less than a day. i guess it being much cheaper than anywhere else means that it isn't going to last at that price for much longer

in regards to me shipping out the workload for the models etc to save money it really doesn't cost me that much to build these things as i have most of the materials i need around the house anyway, plus i love making stuff anyway.

First thing i'm going to do when i get the camcorder is film the new wampa so you can all see what its like and post the first making of video. i'm using my old crappy camcorder to film the step by step building progress of the wampa puppet for this then the finished puppet will be filmed with the HD camcorder and you'll get to see the complete new scene

So do you edit in 25p and then stretch it to 29.98 for us Yanks? The real question is do you work with the sped up audio when you're working on the audio side? Just curious.

The Prequels: I seriously cannot watch Star Wars anymore.

Last time I watched the originals straight through, I tried to watch them thinking the whole time about the connections, Hayden behind the mask, etc. etc. It didn't work. No matter how hard I tried, I could not reconcile the prequels with the originals.

Heck, this guy watched them straight through for the first time ever and couldn't do it.

I just became a Star Wars fan several months ago. I watched them in the numbered order, that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Besides that, the 2004 SE was the first vesions of the OT I saw, so I have different view on it. But I'm sure that I'd be pretty pissed if I grew up watching a perfect movie and then in the future they completely screw it up.

Even though I've only seen the SE of the OT, after reading about all of this I see what problems the changes I saw were.

Reaction to certain scenes:

A New Hope:

"Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough": Anakin didn't even know he had a son...

Jabba/Han scene: I imagined Han's boss to be a bit...different

Luke's falcon training: Isn't he supposed to have a blue lightsaber?

Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader: Wonder why Obi-Wan calls him, "Darth"...

Empire Strikes Back:

Luke & Leia kiss: Wait, didn't Padme name her babies Luke & Leia?

Yoda's appearance: Did...is Yoda on drugs or something? And his voice got...heavier

Cloud City entrance: I seriously doubt that this scene was in the original version...

Vader/Emperor scene: Palpatine looks exactly the same as he did in Episode III. Don't people age?

"I am your father": I already suspected this in either one of the movies since it's probably the most heard quote

Return Of The Jedi:

Jabba's appearance: *just realizes that Episode I had Jabba* Alright, Episode IV CG Jabba officially sucks. This is much better.

Leia says she remembers her mother: BULL. SHIT.

Palpatine's appearance: He looks like he lost weight compared to Episode III & V...

Unmasking scene: If Anakin was burned, why does he only have burn marks on the side of his cheek?

Anakin/Obi-Wan/Yoda final scene: Why is Anakin just looking around everywhere?

My dad's reaction to the final scene: Who's that guy on the left?

Now typing this out helps me see why the PT kinda ruined the OT.

This point of view is rarely heard in these forums. We've known these movies our whole lives, and the PT and SE are some kind of outside force trying to change what we think about the OT. It's nice to see that even people watching them straight through for the first time can see the complete lack of care for the OT in the PT and SE.

Thanks for sharing!
