proving the point that ILM is not passionate about Star Wars, the very reason they exist is because of Star Wars.  If the personel were wanting to do it they would have done the work for free, dont you think?

ANH (Lukes lightsaber was green somehow in 2004 DVD release) I rest my case.

I was under the impression that Lowry Digital did the restoration and colour-correcting for the 2004 DVDs, and were given one month per movie.

The only article about the 2004 DVDs says that it was ILM:

I don't remember where it was mentioned, but there's an article the specifically states that ILM did the colors and just had Lowry clean it.  I think ILM tried to restore it themselves to save money, messed up the colors and hoped Lowry could fix it.

http://www.apple.com/ca/pro/film/lowry/starwars/index.html

That article mentions that Lucasfilm scanned the negatives, carried out the "re-mastering" (I assume this means the '04 alterations) and the re-colour timing. Then then attempted a cleaning pass through ILM, before deciding to give the job to Lowry.

Lowry received high-definition scans to work with from Lucasfilm. Although it is not clear in the article, it's reasonable to assume that the scans provided contained the tweaks and the new colours.

I loved the new clip! Yoda is full of life now, especially when he says, "You will become an agent of evil." I remember that the puppet's mouth movement was terribly unconvincing in the originals which "takes one out" of the fantasy and the suspension on the ordinary. The new mouth movement and expressions are subtle but powerful. Adywan is a great magician!

I do have a critique. When Ady enlarged Obi Wan so that he fits the size of Yoda in the scene there is a very noticeable loss of resolution. Two ways around this: return Obi Wan to original size and place some branches in front of him to show that he is some distance behind Yoda; or shrink Yoda a little so that he fits in with the original Obi Wan.

I loved the shot of Cloud City. The clouds really give dimension to the previously flat and obviously painted shot. The red sky car (I don't know what they are called) is a bit jarring though since it contrasts the beautiful sky scene with a very passionate red. I know some of the shots were temps and are still under construction. I hope my thoughts are somewhat useful.

I cry for being in debt and living on a budget, and my wife thinking I'm addicted to the OT boards anyway so asking for money would be bad for my life.

In that set up when Luke is saying "I can't do it alone" he is expressing doubts to Artoo over his ability to save everyone now that Leia has blown the plan rushing to save Han so Ben turns up to give him a bit of a pep talk but also to bring the story of his father's fall full circle.

The context changes the meaning of the line.

I don't think what you are talking about could every be done by any stretch of the imagination, but even if if could, wouldn't it just make more of a mess?

If you took Ben's telling Luke that Leia is his sister and placed it at the beginning of a movie, I guess you have to remove it from its rightful spot, to prevent redundancy. Since Ben has already confirmed that Vader is Luke's father and Leia is his sister, then Luke would have no reason to ask Yoda if Darth Vader was really his father, and Yoda's dying words "there is another Sky...walk...er" would be meaningless. In the attempt to fix some logical errors at the start of the film, you'd be bungling the entirety of the film and making some of the more meaningful moments less meaningful. Also, Threepio translates for Leia, so how could she already be capture by the time Luke decides to send the droids?

Not if you open the movie on Dagobah.

Do we really need a siren? He already gave the evacuation order. People are fleeing. We get it already.

Put Ric Olie in the shot then for cryin' out loud.

"Look, it's an evacuation and the people are leaving!"

LOL... I vote ady put Ric Olie into every scene of ESB:R from this point onward.

-- "That's Darth Vader, Luke's father... and look, he just lopped off his right hand."

I love Ric Olie!  I wish we could get that actor in to make an alternate audio track, like sometimes they have one for the blind.  I can't believe that he also plays the drugged-out stage manager in Wayne's World 2 though...

Here's a funny idea I had... what if the celebrations were before the funeral?  I think it might work, given the proper editing.  Make it so that it's almost as if the ghosts of the three Jedi are reminding him that he has a duty to dispose of Vader's remains.  Also, it would feel darker IMO.  Besides, Luke seems the type who would skip out on the celebration for at least awhile for some alone time.  That is, if the teddybear parade were used instead of the world celebrations - I'm in the minority, but I prefer that to the celebrations (not the music mind you, the celebration).

I saw you commented that on my YouTube.  It's an interesting idea, but I think the funeral is the closure on Darth Vader with the burning of the suit.  If it came AFTER the closure on Anakin being a redeemed Force Ghost, I think it would be confusing.  I mean, maybe we could give it a shot, but I'm not sure.

i guess maybe the strap could have snapped, and when han falls out of the carbonite in ROTJ, it could be added and just fall on the floor perhaps.

Perhaps in ROTJ:R Ady could just show the strap still stuck in the Carbonite when Han falls out.

I believe Ady has said that his plan is to add the strap to RotJ, no worries.

Holy crap! I've never noticed that before! I've been too busy trying to read that screen all these years. Is that from Empire or Jedi? Although it would make sense if they simply recycled that shot for Jedi...

Yeah, it's from Empire but I wouldn't be surprised if they used it for Jedi, too.

Actually, that's from Jedi.  You can tell because its not blue.  And I screenshot it.

Well, hot damn, doubleofive!  That new lighting scheme really did the trick!  The video looks a hundred times better this time around!

I took the lamp shade off the lamp I'd been using before, and I turned on one light of the lamp tree to my left, diffusing it with wax paper and aiming it slightly toward the ceiling, and I think it turned out just great!

Awesome!  And to think I just pulled that idea out of my hindquarters.  LOL

Heh, lighting's the one thing that's always pissed me off.  I've taken film directing, film editing, and film production classes, know the name and function of pretty much every professional lighting instrument and how to work them and set them up and have had plenty experience doing so, but for some reason, I've never quite been able to figure out how to make a decent lighting scheme.

That's exactly my story also, though on a much smaller scale.  Maybe we should combine our fuzzy knowledge of things into one coherent knowledge!

Creaky chairs, hmm?  So that's what this demographic likes.  I guess my next video, instead of sampling music from whatever I'm reviewing, I'll just loop that chair creak over and over again.  ^_~

Ugh, the only thing that annoys me is how poor the video quality seems.  You spend $350 or so on a camera... well, I don't expect the kind of quality the cameras I used in college had, but I expect something, damnit!  Maybe I should experiment with different lighting schemes.

But the weirdest thing is that all of you OT people now know what I look and sound like.  Yeah, as hard as it is to believe, I don't look like my avatar Princess Leia in the least (and I might have been able to keep up the illusion had I not put us side by side in the video, d'oh!).  There goes my anonymity.  Well, there's only one thing for it:  all of you have to die.  Sorry 'bout that.

Seriously, if you can think of more problems with good movies, keep the reviews coming.  I would, however, try some different lighting.  I think that was the problem with the last one's video quality.  Maybe have a desklamp shining at you from opposite the main light you were using?  Diffuse it with some wax/tissue paper or something, you'll be set.  Whatever you do, don't hold a flashlight under your chin and shine it upwards.  Unless you're telling a ghost story, of course. :-D

Guess I'll become a Yes-man.

It's not that we're all supporting things just because Ady says that's the way it will be; we're moving on because that's the way he said it will be.  "Yes-men" typically work for those who won't hear other opinions, while Ady has proven time and time again that he does care what we think.  What he doesn't care for is people harping on the same thing over and over again.

I love Davnes' hologram.  I really do and I think that something like it would be great in the movie, even if it is unnecessary.  Does it belong in Revisited?  Apparently not.  But anyone can work with Davnes to help him finish it up and people can insert into their own versions.  It's a fan edit we're complaining about here.  Ady has no more power than any of us to change the movie, he just already has his name out there.

Like others have said before me (including Adywan and Davnes), its time to move on everybody.

OFF TOPIC: Thanks for the kind remarks about my new avatar.  I made it a while back and completely forgot about it until this morning. :-D
