Speaking of mattes, Ganamae, have you seen evidence of new mattes in your workprint copy? "Yes or no will do." ;)

Lets just say that things have been noticed :D

I and some friends spent 5 hours commenting and talking about the 50 first minutes of the Empire work print yesterday, the rest we will do today...

I have to slave over a hot stove even...they demanded dinner and I demand results and comments back, so Adywan can become a happy man ^_^

so 5 more hours of Star warsing today :D

I'm pumped that not only are you getting multiple opinions, but are having lively discussions and taking notes.

Added, though maybe the middle light is some kind of warning light that there's a catastrophic overload, it just never lit up before. And maybe that stormtrooper meant to shoot straight through his buddy's head to miss that ewok next to him. And maybe Han dropped two guns so he would always be right no matter which one he picked up.

No i meant that the laser goes front of the ewok's ear that is  front of the stormie. And han's gun, id like to have it only him. more iconic rather a copy paste prop.

I know what you meant with the stormtroopers, I was joking. It's funny. HA!

Anyways 005 add those to your list.

Add as plus the fact that most of the blasters are shooting the wrong direction.

Did you notice that in PT to release someone of his chains its simply requires a touch of lightsaber. In ROTJ luke tries too long to release Han and Chewie. Can be done something there?

-Angel

You've seen the size of Luke's lightsaber, he would have burned their arms off getting it that close to them!

But seriously, maybe Luke wasn't as confident (or careless) with his lightsaber and was afraid of cutting them by mistake.  I know I would be.  Seems too casual in the PT, maybe it was supposed to be.

So let me get this right...Once the Rebels evacuate Hoth...They leave this bad boy behind?

No wonder they're always scrounging for ships etc....What a waste!!!

Good thinking. But you just know there's probably some EU story out there that mentions them going back. :p If not, maybe some lurker here will add it to a story someday. "Star Wars: Ion Cannon Retrieval"

I thought there was a story about the Rebels who stayed behind to blow it up, but apparently I was wrong.  It's featured in Dark Forces IV: Jedi Knight III: Jedi Outcast II: Jedi Academy as being fully functional 10 years later.  I was right about Rebels staying behind (from Alderaan even), but they just stayed behind to man it until the last minute.

Here's the shot where it looks like a couple guys are trying to look out a window in the rebel control room:

Watch it in motion, the guy with the arrow is defiantly not looking at the glass, but leaning forward to look through it and down.  The problem with putting a window there is the lighting, unless the window just happens to be in shadow in the outside shot.

Here is a cut out of the cannon and fire control....it's not cannon but it can give us some pointers. :)

This made me LOL when I read it over the weekend.

I am not where it's located but early on I asked here on the forum if the ION cannon should shoot blue and Adywan replied that he was not a fan of EU...but hey what do ya know....some time later it shoot blue :P

So everything can happen :)

was it colored blue because of the Rogue Squadron games?

I think the blue=ion started with "X-Wing" way before the Rogue Squadron games, but Ady didn't change it to blue to fit in with EU, he changed it to blue because it looked more like an electrical disruption. That is neither here nor there however.

Could also be related to the Jawa cannon as well.

hey guys, just wondering if anyone has taken a look at this site, it has people submitting the ROTJ movie mistakes. Maybe we could have a look at all these all see whats true wots false and see what we can do, maybe 005 u could add these to the list too.

I thought 005 ran that site site in the first place :-p

If I ran it they wouldn't be so vague or say things like "there clothes are on backwards lol" :-P

In terms of dialogue removal........I'd love to see Han's cut a bit in the briefing room.

At one point he shouts out "Good luck!"

then....

"You're gonna need it!"......the line delivery on "you're gonna need it" always sounded incredibly corn-ball as hell to me. More importantly, I feel like his lame outburst undercuts the life & death seriousness of the moment. But if it were cut I don't know that leaving the "good luck" still in there would seem odd?

There's so much of THAT type of off dialogue in ROTJ unfortunately.

Is it possible for someone to cut the line and throw up a quick vid to see how it plays? It'd be appreciated.

I would like to see the video also.  Maybe a whole cut to be a bit more serious.  I was hoping specifically to make it seem like its a suicide mission that Lando takes knowing he's going to die.  But that's just me. ;-)

I just go by the assumption that that is the first place to look.  "Fixing mistakes" is kind of an obvious wish list entry.  I just add the more rare ones (not flipped shots) or ones corrected by our elite team of mock-up artists.

Angel, that shield generator shot is incredible.  I think if shots like that aren't used in Revisited or other edits, you should at least let them be used as DVD menu screens.

Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't complain about my limited number of lines after all.

My biggest disappointment with the prequels is that they stopped putting you in it.  Ric Olie is the definition of Fan Favorite.  How did we ever get through the rest of the movies without you?

Yeah, I'm for losing him.

I like how all six films have some of their own characters. This line of thought also makes me tilt towards losing Boba for ROTJ but that's for another thread.

This also makes me think of other unnecessary fan service characters: Jabba in TPM. Jabba in ANH:SE. Boba in ANH:SE, etc.

Boba in AotC, Chewie in RotS, we could go through a whole list of characters who sometimes literally show up to wave at the audience then disappear.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to knock mattes, I just wasn't fully aware of their proliferation in films ancient and modern, let alone the number in RotJ.  I never noticed most of them, which I guess is a good sign, eh?  We just need to work on improving the current mattes (Vaderios) or creating all new mattes (Venal) to eliminate some of the lines, static elements, or perspective errors.

I'd love to see more comparisons between what was shot and what was matte.  I'm sure they'll be in the eventual "Making of Return of the Jedi: The Definitive Story", since the one for "Star Wars" had a few, tiny as most of them were.
