Since this is now the "explain your nick" thread, mine is a combo of TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Professor Frink from The Simpsons.

And I've been looking for an opportunity to tell you how awesome your screen name is:

Your screen name is awesome.

Mine is from a group my friends made in high school, back when everyone was obsessed with GoldenEye 64. We all picked numbers, I got 005. When I wanted to change my lame first.last@juno.com email address (to give you an idea of how long ago this was), it hit me to spell it out. I've used it for everything ever since.

AVATAR and 3D in general....
Time

TV's Frink said:

Finally saw Avatar last night and I really enjoyed it. It was the first 3D movie I've seen and I was surprised how subtle the effect was once I got used to it (in a good way - i liked that there were very few surprise "jumping out of the screen" moments). The CG seemed very well done, although I'll be interested to see how it holds up in 2D. The story and some of the dialogue was simple or silly in places, as expected. But as both a movie and an experience, it worked for me.

It was my first 3D movie too and I appreciated that most of the 3D was bringing depth to the screen, not poking things out of it (like the 3D of the 80's was). There were a few instances where things appeared in front of the screen, but most of the time the screen was a window that you could see into.

And no, I never would have expected that Avatar would outpace Titanic to the top. I mean, sure 3D screenings are more expensive, but the real surprise is that 75% of the tickets were for the 3D version. That's a big percentage! I wouldn't mind more movies being in 3D, as long as they don't go overboard and just bring some depth to the image.

Favicon?

Following Jay's redesign, I'm now thinking the favicon should be something based on the half-built Death Star:

?

I was going to come start a thread about a favicon, found this one, and even found the icon I was going to suggest! We're already ahead of the game!

Say, what if Shmi wasn't a wirgin and was secretly raped by Jabba the Hutt and Leia could get possessed by the spirit of Jabba and become and power mad despot?

The ambassador of Kamino could present Luke with a clone of Biggs who is programmed to kill him.

Suddenly the sequel saga sounds so much more exciting.

That really got to me. It would be better if they were clones of Porkins though.

Xbox 360 or PS3 - Which is better? - Advice......
Time

I have a 20 GB hard drive (and no HDMI) on my Xbox, and I have to say that I wish I didn't have to worry about space. I had Left 4 Dead 1 on my hard drive for a few months and not hearing that disc drive spinning was awesome. I'd have all of my games on there (but Halo 3, which doesn't run well from the hard drive and a game of which I am so over).

I'd go Elite, even if you don't think you won't use it. You could, and that's the rub.

Yes, Xbox, definitely. While you do have to pay for online play, you get what you pay for. Voice chat on every game, a party chat system where you can chat with several of your friends even if they're playing different games, and the achievement aspect is strangely addictive and makes you try to do things in your game that you would never do otherwise, giving you more game for your buck.

PS3 is a great Blu-ray player and will be upgradable to the 3D Blu-ray spec, but it just doesn't have the exclusive games that made the Genesis/SNES war so interesting.

My gamertag is doubleofive, if you want to hook up on Left 4 Dead 2, the only game I seem to be playing recently.

but Luke on his own escaping the Imperial Palace on the Imperial capital planet just doesn't make sense.

Wait, bingo wings, why are you saying Luke on Coruscant in the Imperial Palace wouldn't make sense(after the Emperor dies)?

I think he means that Luke, by himself, basically assassinates the leader of the Empire and his right hand man, then just walks out.

Team Conan or Team Jay?
Time

No matter what, NBC is screwing everyone over, audience included.

TV's Frink said:

I agree that Conan isn't innocent in this. He says he won't allow The Tonight Show to be moved back a half hour because it wouldn't be The Tonight Show anymore. Regardless of if he really belives that or not, it's obvious it isn't his only motive.

If the "Tonight" Show is moved to 12:05, it becomes the "Tomorrow Morning" Show. ;-)

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Can't wait to see what Adywan has decided to do with his whole Vane sequence eventually....

well originally it was going to be done in a similar way to Darth Editous' brilliant concept (BmB, how the hell can you say that it wasn't done well, especially how good that shot looks and i doubt thats even his finished version), but ever since DE showed everyone how he had done it i really needed to go down a different route or it will just look like i was copying his idea. I'm heading for a large model of the shaft and vane but will be a longer zoom in shot blending in the matte shot and the shot where luke walks towards the entrance.

Looking at the matte shot it really does make the vane look really thin, but when we see it from underneath we can see that it is a lot fatter than we originally thought. The other thing to fix in those scenes is the position of the window. It keeps changing its position and is way to low down after the first matte zoom shot

If you didn't use something just because someone else did it, you'll be doing this edit for a looooong time. ;-)

But seriously, unless you are redesigning the vane from scratch, I'm sure DE won't be offending if you use his idea.

Location of Holiday Special = Carrie Fisher's House?
Time

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/her-most-desperate-hour-carrie-fisher-discusses-the-star-wars-holiday-special/

In this video, Carrie Fisher makes fun of the Holiday Special and says she made a deal with Lucas to get a copy to show at parties when she wanted everyone to leave. She sounds serious, but with the way she sounds now, I can't tell anymore.
