Although if someone wants to nitpick, the new petition here simply asks for the original versions restored, while the banner could suggest we want whatever version as long as the colors are proper. Some people unfamiliar with the films might think from the banner that the original versions were released with the wrong colors when that was actually one of the things the unaltered dvd's got right. I don't think it's a big deal but those who would call us "whiny fanboys" might use it as another lame response.
Right, I just liked Ripplin's "Blu Not Blue" line. I can try something along the same lines with GOUT vs Adywan's AVCHD, but I don't have a clever line for it!
I believe 4:3 Blu-rays that are pillarboxed are STILL a 16:9 image. I don't have an SD TV to confirm, but I think it would have black bars all the way around the squarish image.

As cool as I think this new Adywan logo looks, for originality and consistency's sake, I prefer the old one. I would much prefer to have the same logo as in ANH:R but with a slightly different theme to it. I think it has more of an impact than something that's a rip off of an existing iconic logo.
Just my opinion.
After thinking about the "new" logo, I agree 100% with brash. The "original" logo was unique to Ady, and just needs a more ESB-er theme and its set just the way it is.
Speaking of which, I put more stuff on it a few minutes ago. You wouldn't believe how many people stumble upon the list searching for random RotJ phrases and stuff!

Hi GUYS thanks for your compliments regarding that Intro thing I did.
Iv had another attempt at it thanks to vaderios-Angel for the links he provided.
I changed the Music to the Emperor's theme but I didn't wanna get rid of the 20th Century fox music so then I kinda remixed it, Used my old D-jaying skill but I think I got Carried away, but I also cut them Emperor's theme just using the intro and outro off that track...
THIS IS NOT FINAL VERSION as the the X Wing textures are not Complete so the rendering on that looks shit..
I still need to replace the SKY and also the city lights as they look crap
I spent most time animating the X-wing movement cos I wanted to add I slight Wobble to it.
anyway guys take a look

Looks great! Some nitpicks though... You can see the reflection of the X-Wing on the platform it came off of (which is awesome) as you spin it around to make the flight across the screen. Other than that and some tweaks for the audio (replacing the TIE sound with an X-wing one and music edit), I think its great!

I wouldn't read too much into the framing. Whenever something gets transfered, it is usually cropped to some degree, even if it is anamorphic. They re-oriented the cropping a little bit for the concert/new master, probably just based on the choices of whoever was supervising the new transfer.
So this does show that there IS a new master/transfer, and they cropped from it? Wouldn't that be a big deal? They didn't just paste the CGI Yoda over the DVD, its on a whole different/new transfer.
Lucas was there to promote his book, not Star Wars specifically.
At least he read through the thread, that's more than a lot of people have done.

looks like they cropped of yaddle! probably couldnt be arsed to CG her so chopped her off? fingers crossed for a new tpm transfer of all 6 movies its still the worst HD transfer if they ponied up for a cg yoda hopefully a clean and polish was done too!
Sadly, she remains a puppet in this shot:

...which has more information on the top and bottom but LESS on the sides!
Original Trilogy shots in Star Wars In Concert seemed to be from the same master as the DVD. Tantive shots did seem a bit whiter to me, but Luke's Garage was still way too dark, the overhead Star Destroyer still glared off the camera, and ESB shots were blue, which makes me think that I just WANTED Tantive to be white (or they took clips from a copy they started fixing but only got a few minutes in).
Interesting fact about the TPM shots. Not only did they have CGI Yoda, there's actually more on the screen. It seems like they zoomed in to fill whatever aspect ratio it was, but they zoomed in using more film than is currently available!

Look at the ceiling above their heads and the space behind Plo's chair. All of the Yoda shots I did my comparisons with had extra space. Where did this space come from? Wouldn't the master they used to make the clips have the same area we've always seen, just zoomed into a particular part maybe? Or did they go back to the original filmed elements where there is more than the 2.35:1 image to be captured from? Is that possible?
I believe he started RotJ correction, but went back to ESB:R because it wasn't as simple as he'd hoped (TPM was simple and he did it over a weekend it seemed).

But I was pissed off about Samuel L Jackson being Nick Fury. I think it's racist to change the race of a character, at least if the character is well-established, important and popular. I like Jackson (outside of Star Wars, that is) and I think his performance in Black Snake Moan was oscar-worthy, but Nick Fury isn't black. I mean, people would (rightly) be pretty pissed off if they cast a white woman as Storm of the X-Men and I don't see how this is any different.
You've not seen the current Nick Fury then:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Nick_Fury
Not only is the current Nick Fury black, they had permission from SLJ to model him after the actor. SLJ playing a character they redesigned to be based on him was the only way to cast him.

If all those scale problems are due to camera lens used during shooting (?), can't we consider this as a choice from the director and not "problems"?
The scale problems are due to the full-size Falcon not actually being "full size" (the cockpit Chewie is standing in is too small). It's a limitation of budget and should be fixed if physically (computerly?) possible.
EDIT: But since it doesn't bother Ady, it leaves something for someone else to try.
720p would have to be an AVCHD as the DVD format will only do 480i. From my understanding, you will have to download it twice to get all the menus and possible bonus features.

That is an EXCELLENT idea and mock up!
But the even BIGGER accomplishment is that he posted it top/bottom instead of left/right!
LOL, nice one. It is a great mockup though. But can it work for every shot?

Okay thanks!
Something I've always wanted to ask was if there's a difference (quality-wise) between the 97SE LD AC3 soundtrack and the 2004 DVD one? I know about some of the swapped channels and muted music in the 2004 version, but I also heard that the LD version has greated dynamic range? If so, wouldn't it be better to use this instead?
The quality differences you stated are true, and I believe that Adywan does use the Laserdisc first.
Lord Grievous said:
Oh okay, so if I get this straight, Adywan is planning on two versions for each film? One is a colour-corrected 1080p version, the other is colour-corrected AND edited AND at least 720p, right?
Sorry about asking this again, but It's a bit confusing which version is which ;)
I'm currently in the process of reading through this entire thread, and I'm only on page 157 :(
Here's the process I believe he goes through, or at least what he did / is planning for Empire:
So, yes, a 1080p just color corrected 97 SE version and a 720p edited enhanced Revisited version are the HD releases.

It's a damn useful site. I don't get into trying to edit stuff on sites like that. I think you're bound to end up pissed off if you do. I got some bullshit treatment on one wiki site and since then I've stuck to reading the sites and not editing. I've found wookieepedia very useful. That's not to say I agree with all their policies and attitudes.
As I am one who doesn't ever feel the need to punch up the wookiepedia, may I ask what is useful about it?
I use it so I can point out how crazy the EU is, since WP tries to combine nearly EVERY source as canon, from "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" to the Marvel Comics to "Heir to the Empire" and "The Glove of Darth Vader, all the way to the latest comic.
Wow, actually trying to get the petition to Lucas physically is a crazy/brilliant idea! Using my banner as a cover sheet was an awesome idea! If you somehow were able to hand it to Lucas directly, what will you do? Keep us informed!
Lord Grievous said:
I think they just mention Adywan, but I thought you only did Revisited editions. So what source did you use for these versions, are they from an actual HDTV broadcast because I don't know of any HD transfers of either the theatrical or SE editions.
This is correct, Adywan recreated what he could of the 97 SE using the 04 SE HD broadcast, using the AC3 from the Laserdisc. I believe the Laserdisc audio is also the grounds for the Revisited versions due to the much better sound quality.
Wobbly helmet was later fixed in a surprise move, so no worries there.
You are correct on the sources, but due to low quality sources of new material and it would take forever to render on any machine, Ady is working on it in 720p, which will be the final product as well.

:::Noted for Policy Shift:::
what?
Maybe he's noting that all donations get the new clip? I wouldn't say that's "policy" though...
Hey, G-Force, any chance you still have the full frame of that 4-eyed stormtrooper you have as your avatar? I'm wanting to put together a page on why the GOUT isn't sufficient, and I think it and any other shots you can think of that are obviously terrible would be a big help.
Heck, the DVD added a "bonk" sound to the "mistake", making it canon. ;-)
He hates sand?
