Here's my stab (going on the assumption that cadets wear gray and not shiny tinsel tops as seen when Kirk was a kid) :

Double Decker

That's awesome!  I love the shave on Com. Decker.  I think if you make their heads the same size, we might have something!

Here's something I worked on today.  Just trying to enhance the awesome Earth Orbit image, with less matte lines and blue deflector:

"View Image" for HD size.  I did this by hand, I wouldn't recommend it.

As far as Windom is concerned, would it be possible to take that pic of him and just remove the stubble and darken his hair?  Would that be easier than hunting down his entire catalog of films to get a single screen grab?

Its not Windom I'm worried about, its Collins.  As small as the end result will be, I think we could replace them with pictures of ourselves and no one would notice. ;-)

Alright, this is rough, but as small as it will be on screen, here it goes:

I wouldn't "View Image" for bigness, but the option is there.  I wasn't too particular on Will since in the end it will be this big, maybe:

I liked the idea of Will grinning at his dad as he stares off into space.  I just wish his head wasn't turned at that ridiculous angle when he's grinning at Ilia...  The option remains for better shots, but I like the elder Decker.  I put them in "WNMHGB" outfits since that takes place in 2265, right when I placed Will's graduation.  I'm imagining Will went to visit his dad on the Constellation.

Now to update the "Blueprints"

Y'know, how the car is affected if it takes damage, like pulling to a certain side if it gets out of alignment and such. Plus, they want to show actual damage on the cars, like in Burnout.

Burnout was only about damage, and I didn't get tired of it... until I got tired of it.  DARN YOU!

And another thought occured...what about using a picture of an older Stephen Collins, implied to be the elder Decker?

I know the role was already portrayed by a different looking actor, but James bond looks different almost every time we see him. And if you could photoshop him into a higher ranking costume than the younger Decker currently holds, it might be enough...

It's not the older Decker I'm worried about, its a younger Will.  If we go too young with the father, I need an even younger Collins.  I'm just hoping ATPM will work out.  If not, we can try youngering Decker from TMP.  A picture on a shelf on a DVD copy is going to be so imperceptibly small that no one is really going to be able to tell where the pictures came from.  I just want to them to be accurate for my own sake.

Well that is why I suggested a weekend so it's not so bad if someone had to be up late at night...Just putting it out there.

I'm up for it if anyone else is [I'm GMT+10]

Besides we all seem to be here and posting within a similar timeframe.

So, early for me is late for you is midday for UK.  I think I've got it. :-D

Maybe after we see the workprint, so we don't end up mention a bunch of stuff just to have FF say "did that already, you should see it!"

Regarding Kirk's arrival, Not sure if you've looked at this already but i would strongly suggest trimming down this seqence...It seems a little jarring, the focus is on things that are irrelevant and the shuttles seem to appear out of nowhere...

I would suggest losing 1,3,4.

Yes, its like there are FIVE establishing shots for "Kirk beams to a space station."  "Darn it, we have all these shots of the model, use them all!"

Just tinkering away after work...

THAT looks great!  I tried doing the sun shot just using Hue/Saturation, and it looked decent enough.

Here's an opening concept.

I like the original titles.  These are too close to the TNG movies, while the existing ones match the style for the TOS movies.  Only better because they're not just words I'll fast forward to on my way to the movie.

And here's my idea re: the mattes. As you can see the results are less than stunning.

For some shots it's a lot easier to hide simply by adjusting the contrast, which I see they did on the Bluray realease...

I really don't think they should be done by hand, but it certainly looks that they'll have to be.  Except for the deep space shots, which can be fixed by contrast as you sample here.

The way I figured it all these years was that Boba Fett's voice was generated or distorted by his helmet. After all, that was the case with Darth Vader and the "Bousshe" disguise Leia used. It's true the Stormtrooper helmets only distort the voice without changing it (Luke & Han in ANH). Yet in the Prequels not only does Jango's voice just get the "stormtrooper filter" when his helmet is one, it's the same with the clone troopers. Jango's helmet is noticably different than everyone else's in the movies, why not just say when the helmet goes on he suddenly sounds like Classic Trilogy Boba Fett?

I believe that is Adywan's plan.  Redubbing Jango helmet-on with someone who does a good Wingreen.

Would you guys be interested in meeting up for a group IM/chat? maybe during a weekend...not sure on the time differences between us.

I was interested in knowing everyone's time zones anyway, since our schedules seem to be way off.  Indiana, EST here.  Johnny's in Australia, if FF is in the UK, we're pretty much on incompatible time schedules. ;-)

Also, looking through the DVD, I think the Blu-ray looks so much better.  The classic scene (for me) of the Enterprise orbiting to leave earth with the sun peeking around behind it is so dark on the DVD!  I'll show you what I mean later.

I'd love to have something where Stephen is looking roughly the same direction with similar lighting.  Preferably standing, though the shot should be in close-up (I'm planning on using body doubles).  Let me know, great to see such a quick response on something I threw out there not expecting anything!

If there's not anything, don't worry about it, I can use a shot from TMP.

Hmmm, I was kind of wanting to watch ATPM again anyway (I go into classic movie mode in the Winter months, just caught another Robert Wise flick, Executive Suite, last night), so let me give it a view in the next couple days and see if I spot anything.  If so, I will try to nab a cap for you.

Thanks CG!  I'm still shocked that a new member randomly found the thread and has the random movie I was looking for!

I'll try to get a work-print done by this Sunday.

Wow, I meant eventually, not in the next few days!  That's awesome.  Having a rough cut done this early means we can tweak whatever we want for as long as we want.  I love it!

New to this forum.  Was just thinking how cool it would be to see a great fan edit of TMP, and bam, here you guys are hard at work!  I do have a copy of ATPM, so hit me back, and let me know what you need.  I'm an fanedit fan, but not a fan editor.  Last time I edited anything it was on an Avid in college so I'm way behind the times at this point, but happy to kick in anything I can.  Let me know about ATPM.

Welcome to the boards!  We'll take any help we can get, whether ideas or mockups or anything!  Looks like FF has the general editing down, so we really just need ideas on tweaking things.

What I really need from ATPM is a shot of Stephen Collins happy.  Having not seen the movie, I have no idea if anyone is ever happy in it.  I'm modifying Com. Decker's picture using this:

You guys seem to have a great handle on the visual changes. Blue deflector sounds like a good idea. We just need to make sure that the shots you want adjusted will even be in this edit after we chop this sucker up.   At the moment, I have just been working on the films pacing with all these major scene and trim cuts I have been considering.  I am starting to worry about the last 3rd of the film not being much different from all the others versions out now. The film just fizzles out.

Yeah, that's why I haven't been too heavy on the fixes so far.  Maybe you'll need to release a workprint so we can check it for continuity and SFX fixes once you're satisfied with the editing?

In my skipping through the movie, the last third does seem to drag on.  Don't be afraid to take out a machete and cut a whole lot out!

EDIT: Anyone have a copy of "All The President's Men"?  It seems like we could get a decent shot of Stephen Collins from there for a younger Will Decker.  I did some math and figured out that Will would have graduated Starfleet Academy around the time of Doomsday Machine, if not a year or two before.  Can't really find good images of Windom from that era apart from Doomsday.

Yeah, its a bummer to hear about Andrew Koenig.  Someone will find him.

Inspired by the edit, I've made by desktop wallpaper a slideshow of images of the Refit Enterprise from all 6 movies.  I love it.

FF, any word on blue-ing the deflector in all of the shots?  I think it should be done, as that's the way it is in every shot of the E in the rest of the movies.

Johnny, did you say you had an idea on reducing the matte lines?

Perhaps I'm being mean?

A saga edit with Sitheyes and even Jedeyes could possibly work but they would have to be applied consistently.

If Maul and Palpatine's eye's work the same way as Anakin's would they be switched on all the time like in TPM and ROTJ?

They would have to be switched on and off, or ALL good Jedi would have Dune eyes and all Sith would have fiery eyes all the time.  Maybe Maul had impure thoughts at all times?

Wouldn't Anakin's be on through out most of his ROTS battle with Obi-Wan?

At the very least from the moment he chokes his wife.

Would we see them fade away when Luke takes off Vader's helmet?

If it was an immediate effect, it would have faded well before then.

I'm not saying we should do this, I think its silly.  I'm just breaking it down for those who want to do it, heaven help them.

Yes, and Ady will not add any sith eyes. I have a feeling that he is not going to add any sith eyes to these movies. He might take them away for all we know.

I have a feeling Sith Eyes will be a thing not featured in Revisited.

I can live without them. To me, they are as pointless as midichloreans.

You take that back!  NOTHING is as pointless as midicloreans!  I mean, if Palps flat out explained that he cloned midicloreans to create Anakin (as was my 2000 theory), maybe, but in the current PT, it is the most stupid/upsetting thing ever!

Those don't have to be Sith Eyes.  They could just be that the spike-headed, tattooed monster has crazy eyes.

Doubleofive......before you down too much caffeine, it is possible that Mcullum is an American born in Germany and raised in England via U.S. govt. or U.S. military parents? I was born and raised in Germany, and am an American. Parents were U.S. government employees. Just an idea, because Rick seems very American.

True, I have a friend with the same story as you.  That could make sense.  Of course, the lack of caffeine problem has restarted again, so lets not get into this too hard...

Welcome to live-hood.  The only fun about watching them in singles is the ability to come and talk about it here with us!

You can find my live-blog-like thoughts as I watch the episodes here:

http://doubleofive.wordpress.com/category/lost/

I agree, we're nearly a dozen episodes from the end and the pattern of 1 answer to 10 more questions continues.  They need to start pushing that ratio more towards the "answers" like from next week on.
