iPhone/iPod Touch = awesome, useful, sweet for on the go and simple internet reading.

However, my wife and I bought our netbook specifically to have something for her to sync her iPhone to.  And it plays Flash. ;-)

If it was a MacBook with an iPhone interface, that'd be great, but since its just a massive iPhone with all of the limitations of that system, it doesn't make sense to have it big.

And I love Apple products!

There you go. It's his edit, and he didn't want them green. That's really what it came down to.

But I want them green.

I too am fond of that.  One of the few train wrecks I had the pleasure of witnessing.

You guys are so intolerant. I would never talk like this to a rookie.

Do a search. Just do a search. Seriously.

This is located in the top right of the screen.

BTW: We actually are being quite tolerant. It is a general rule on all forums to search before starting a new topic or asking a question. Many forums would simply ban a "rookie" for being as belligerent and unapologetic as you are being.

Ideas and Suggestions for :Star Trek The Motion Picture (True Fan Edit)

Alright, I looked each of the images I posted and using Google Earth found approximately where each location is in relation to the Golden Gate Bridge.

(Click for bigness)

Looks like They used the same CGI matte for Starfleet Academy in Voyager and Starfleet Command in DS9 (which may actually be a shot of the Academy, I've not seen the episode).  It could be that Earth's Starfleet Command in Enterprise became Starfleet Academy after the Federation was formed.  Both the Tram Station in TMP and "Headquarters" in TNG are on the city-side of the bridge.  The only odd-balls out are JJ's Academy being on the city-side, and Command from Star Trek 4 is on the opposite side of the bay than where Command is in every other instance.

So:

Starfleet Command: Presidio/City side
Starfleet Academy: Sausalito side

Google Earth is a great tool to get an idea of what the bridge looks like from whatever angle.

Where did he confirm that? His had a still of that scene, building looked same to me. Unless it was an early version.

Everything we've seen is an "early version" until its released.  Just trust that nothing looks like it did when he showed it to us.  ;-)

No, I think the hanger in JJ's movie is more of a private hanger for the students to get to their ships, this is more of a public train station kind of thing.  Besides, most of JJ's "behind the ship" scenes are a bit too industrial to match the rest of the movies/series.  JJ liked the real world locations for those kind of things.

We can't really use anything from JJ's movie, as he changed so much for this alternate timeline (look at where the Golden Gate Bridge is in location to his Academy!).  It's a shame really, but it is its own self-contained universe with its own continuity.  We need to make good with what we have from the rest of the movies/series.

And yes, there are issues with that matte from Star Trek 4.  Never noticed that the building was floating, thanks for that.  It needs work, as you can see.  It's all up to FF really, if he just wants that matte fixed, or if we can make a whole new one using elements from the later versions of Headquarters.

You first see the shuttle fling next to the bridge, then the HQ shot from ST-IV (shuttle flight angle adjusted), then cut to shuttle entering tram station, Kirk exits shuttle and we cut just before he sees Commander Sonak.

Alright, here's the shots FF mentioned and what needs to be changed.

In the top shot, we have Kirk's shuttle headed towards the tram station, then in the second shot its headed towards the camera.  FF wants to use this shot of Starfleet command and Kirk's shuttle flying past(?) it.  Then the shuttle lands in the tram station.

I think we can go about this two ways.

The first is modifying the existing mattes.  The tram station needs to be replaced with Starfleet Command in the top shot and the bridge needs to be moved in the ST4 shot because the angle is wrong to the rest of the shots.

OR

We can scrap the existing mattes and make all-new ones.  Replace the tram station with Starfleet Command, make an all-new Starfleet Command using compilations from the rest of the series (I would love to see something based on the shots of it from TNG).

Here are some resources:

Starfleet Command in ENT (complete with Google Map location! The tram station could be that building on the right of frame if we wanted it to be)
Starfleet Command in ENT from orbit
(not seeing how to reconcile the two though, as there are no round buildings here)
Starfleet Headquarters from TNG
(this is the iconic building)
Starfleet Academy in TNG
(also within view of the Bridge)
Starfleet Command Destroyed in DS9
Replica Starfleet Academy from VOY
Replica Starfleet Academy from VOY (sixth picture on the page)

Note that all of these look like they're right on top of one another.  These are really just to give an idea of Federation architecture (which doesn't seem to change much over the years, so we can pull from the best of these).

I'm not sure we could or would want to matte all of the people back in.  I like the angle so well, maybe we could just matte Kirk back in as he's heading up the escalator.  Like maybe he's alone in the tram station, late to the new meeting about V'ger that FF is making...

It's these first few minutes that have the mattes we would need enhanced.  Once we have an FF rough cut, we can work more on trying to tie together the mattes, especially the shot of Starfleet command, as the lighting would need to match all of the other shots and its not even from this movie.  Maybe we could get a whole new matte from Angel so we don't have to worry about the Golden Gate Bridge being visible from the same angle in every shot.

I'll try to put together a storyboard of what I mean in the next couple days (by then we might have a rough cut of FF's vision!).

I'm still eager to have an official title.  I mean, we could title the edit and work towards living up to it, or see the final product and title it from that.  Mostly the only thing I feel I'm kind of good at is logos, so I want to have one I can tweak to perfection.  And it would minimize the EXTREMELY long title I have on the "blueprints" (which I hope is an alright title, as I thought I had enough Wishlists).

Just to let you know, I have not had a chance to do any editing in the last two days due to some personal issues I had to take care of. But I do have some demo work on the hard drive that I plan to get up on file share this weekend.

There are so many creative and interesting ideas being expressed about what this edit could be, and that is realy getting my adrenalin pumping. Who knows, we might even wind up with multiple versions if we can't get all the ideas to work in the same edit. That is the great thing about being fan editors, we get to break any rules we want with our projects.

Then we can use all of the names! ;-)

Yes, welcome!  Take a look around, I spent a few months in the ANHR thread before I dared venture out, now Revisited is just one of the reasons I stick around.  It is so great to get involved in a project like this, where your opinions and suggestions are taken seriously.  It's definitely film-making by committee at some points, which may seem crazy but I think in most cases it helps.

So interesting to hear how people get a hold of Revisited or find out about it.  I found out about it by someone mentioning it on TrekMovie.com on a thread about the Remastered Star Trek, for example.  Getting it from your home theater installer is a new one to me.

We've heard a bit about Ady's set up before, mostly what you already gathered.  I'd love to see a picture of his desk, as I imagine its like the batcave, dark with huge monitors (though its probably a tiny desk in the middle of his living room!).

You guys never mentioned that LOST is a wrestling show.

Now that you mention it, I think everyone who goes to ZombieLocke's side should have to wear a black t-shirt with "mIb" on it, and get new entrance music.

NOBODY MESSES WITH THE SAWYERNATOR!!!!

Also, while we as the audience have the context of everything else that's happening to every character, the characters themselves do not -- other than knowing that Locke is back and seems to be different, how are they supposed to know that he's considered "evil incarnate"? He's actually been somewhat charming and reasonable in many of his conversations with the characters now aligning (or considering aligning) themselves with him.

The problem is that EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S DEAD.  Sawyer said so, and Claire knows its not Locke.  He sees Locke, doesn't care that he was dead, follows him to a cave where he shows him names on a wall and now he'll follow him to the ends of the Island.  Even if they don't know he's evil incarnate, they should at least have a clue that maybe this dead guy might be up to no good.

I'm having hard time believing that Sayid, Claire, and Sawyer would actually join the Dark Side of their own free will.  Yes, I know that they've all lost the person they cared for most in the world.  Yes, I know that they blame people on the other team (Sayid blames Ben, Claire blames Kate, Sawyer blames Jack) but would they seriously trade-in their immortal soul?

What has the "Good" Side ever done to convince anyone they're good?

They've constantly lied, murdered, lied, hid the truth, engaged in deceit, insisted they should be trusted, tortured, and imprisoned people, all while lying and refusing to tell the truth.

I'd throw in with ZombieLocke if the other option were those douches in the temple.

I thought about this too watching this last episode.  I mean, BEN is one of the good guys!
