Caught part of the Voyager episode "Prophecy" tonight, and it's got some Klingon cruiser shots you might be able to use, including an explosion.

It might work, but the format of the episode may cause some problems. Voyager was shot on tape and formatted in a 4:3 image. If we're going to use anything from the footage, we'll not only have to make the image look like film, but also zoom in or crop the image to fit it within the 2:35:5 aspect ratio for the rest of the film.

Looking at TrekCore, I don't think there's enough there to use.  There is some debate to that episode, as its a low resolution K'tinga CGI model from DS9 because they couldn't find a TOS D7 in time (which is how its described on screen).  This is the same model they used in Enterprise in one of the early episodes for a predecessor to even the D7, making it an Everlasting Klingon Battlecruiser.

Maybe we could use the shots from Enterprise, but I'm not hot on the model to begin with, being low-res and having the glowing nacelles.

I know you've still got them!!!!

I still have all of my vintage Star Wars stuff (toys, board games, 2600 game, books), no matter the condition.  I have one Yoda on card, but I didn't grow up with it.  In fact, I don't know where it came from, because if I remember not having it, wouldn't I remember getting it?  Must have been a yard sale....

I wish I still had my Real Ghostbusters toys (which I sold online for a pretty penny) and my TMNT toys (which I sold to a consignment shop like a dummy).

EDIT: I forgot in my Star Wars boxes I also have an Indiana Jones, Toht, and Cario Swordsman figure.  I wish I still had my Well of Souls playset.  Not sure why I don't have that but have all the rest of the figures.

Are you sure, five?  To me, it's all relative.  Maybe the HD broadcasts used some other digital processing to counteract the DNR that was native to the film as it arrived to them.  Without knowing both sides of the story it's hard to say who's at fault.

It doesn't really work that way.  If they received a copy that was DNR'd, they (networks) can't just add detail back where detail was lost.  They would have to have access to a copy that was intact.

The example I've been dwelling on:

The stain on Bilbo's wall becomes a smudge on Bilbo's wall.

Whew, wow.  A lot has happened here since I've been away.  Logos have been created (thank you), ideas have been thrown around, crossovers have been suggested.  I need time to think.  Well, actually, I have been thinking.  I just need a little more time.  I have ideas too.  Big, honkin' ones!  And we'll just see if my ideas can mesh with yours.  ^_^

We are eager to hear your "big, honkin'" ideas.

I wish I had an already existing show to cross over with yours...  Does my blog count?

I've never been to Andy Probert's site, he has a great amount of awesome work from TMP:

http://www.probertdesigns.com/Folder_DESIGN/TMP_MenuPAGE.html

Under Enterprise he has some ideas/details for the Cargo Bay:

http://www.probertdesigns.com/Folder_DESIGN/CargoBay-1.html

and the Shuttlebay:

http://www.probertdesigns.com/Folder_DESIGN/landingBay-1.html

Angel, if you are working on something, I would love to see some of these details re-integrated into the matte.

I'm on Eastern Standard Time.

If I recall, C3PX is in Central, and I'm in MDST.  We're all on Daylight Savings, or are you really on Standard time, 005?

Thanks to the glorious state of Indiana, I am on Daylight Saving, thank you.  Can never keep straight when its on or off.

I took a picture to remember:

My wife's dead body in the foreground, I think I'm dead on the other side of the map, my friend is getting shot in the back while a teammate runs forward to plant the flag at the literal last second.  I think the video is on my fileshare, if that's still around.

Nice!  Did you composite several photos together to get the panorama, or is there a way to take those superwide photos?

I took a series of photos and photo-merged them in Photoshop.  I tried to do something like this several times, this is the only one that worked.

My wife will play xbox with me on occasion as long as the stakes are low and she can take some dramamine far enough ahead of time...  I really meant that if we ended up with 5 or 6 people from OT.com that wanted to play... I guess you can play with as many as 8... but having one guy play zombies while the other 4 play survivors might not be much fun.  What do you think?

What timezone are you playing in, 005?

If we had more than 4, I wouldn't play L4D.  Not a huge fan of the versus, but then again, I've never played it.  I'm on Eastern Standard Time.

Wow, so I bought Modern Warfare 2 the other day, and just played it for the first time. Kind of annoying being a level 1 against guys who are at levels 35-70. Anyway, I think MW2 players may actually be sadder than WoW players. Got to be the most immature group of players imaginable. And I thought the Halo 3 crowd was bad...

One of several reasons why I never bought MW2 and sold CoD4 and WaW.  Besides not being able to play splitscreen online, it just doesn't sit right that good players get more rewards which makes them beat the mediocre players even worse (I have no illusions about being a good player), not even letting them get used to the game.  Only because I entered Halo 3 on the ground floor and everyone is on an equal footing do I feel like I could enjoy Halo.  And it lets me play splitscreen.

I have a few glory stories, but one time my friends and I were up against a team of generals, One Flag on Narrows.  We got ours handed to us, it was the last round and we had 15 or 20 seconds to go.  Somehow, we scored, making the generals speechless.

I took a picture to remember:

My wife's dead body in the foreground, I think I'm dead on the other side of the map, my friend is getting shot in the back while a teammate runs forward to plant the flag at the literal last second.  I think the video is on my fileshare, if that's still around.

I know C3PX would be up for L4D2, but I only have the first game so far.  Also it seems that 4 players is really the only way to really play L4D... it's not quite as scalabe as Halo 3.  But maybe I m wrong about that.

We still have L4D1 too.  Can't get rid of that, its a classic (and they're still making episodes for it)!

Its not required that you have 4 players, most of the time we'll just have 3 and end up killing the extra AI because he usually gets in the way.  If you're going for random achievements, some of them are pretty much impossible without having 4, but for playing around 3 isn't bad.  Besides, I'm a package deal, my wife plays with me.

The MacGaffer Group?

I've actually just talked myself into this, and I'd love to be involved.  Have they ever done a movie/pop culture review in the style of the Maclaughlin Group of the much parodied group on The Onion Video News Network?

I, personally, think that would be awesome.  Though I have been known to be wrong before.  From time to time.

Loved to be involved?  Did Gaffer open his reviews up to contributions?

Because I would totally go for that.  Every time I think "I should do a video review", I think "but Gaffer already does that!".  If I was actually contributing to Gaffer, I wouldn't feel like I was stepping on his toes...

I love the idea of a group review, like Siskel and Ebert, but everyone yelling over each other about their opinions...  Could we do something like that over Skype?

My wife and I played Halo 3 for the first time in almost 280 days last week (its the only game we use match making on, and our last suggested friends were that long ago).  We weren't too bad, but its no fun if you're not playing with friends.  We used to be able to get a whole Big Team together and even if we got destroyed, it was like old times in the dorm.

We might be willing to play some H3 with you guys, but we prefer L4D2 ourselves, as we love cooperatively beating down the computer.

Ric (or '85' as you are sometimes known),

I just saw your tour-de-the-force performance in Alien3.  Just once question: Does Alien3 take place before or after Phantom Menace?  Why did you use an alias in Alien3 and why were you demoted to 1st place lackey in Space Jail?

(Tour-de-the-force: And if you look your left, you can see Emperor Palpatine waiting for us.  He is an evil-force-person.)

Holy balls, Ric is 85.  I never knew I owned so many movies with him in it!

WHY we like the things we like (and why we don't that which we don't)
Time

TV's Frink said:

Not sure what I'm trying to say here, except I think you shouldn't have to defend what you like or don't like.  Unless you're trying to prove that you are right, lol.

This is true.  I think most of the problem with explaining why we like (or dislike) something is that we are usually trying to convince them to like (or dislike) it as well.  I think we all feel like our friends should agree with us or have the same tastes, which is ultimately fruitless.  Most of the times, no one cares if we simply don't like something or if we have a dozen valid reasons why we don't.

Example: I don't like the movie Napeleon Dynamite.  At all.  Even if you had a thousand reasons why you liked it, it wouldn't change the fact that I don't.

More recently, I didn't like Juno or Inglorious Basterds.  You'd think I was some kind of outcast, the way my friends talked about how much they loved them.

The "what has changed" article on the official site a few years back broke it down exactly which shots were re-composited. I don't know if that was written with any inside knowledge or if the guy was just eyeballing it. (there seems to be a shot in Jedi that was subtly altered for some prints way back in '83, just not on the GOUT source)

I've still got the article and it does have what was recomposited.  I just wonder why if they had to recomposite THOSE shots they didn't recomposite more of them.

You know, it makes me so sad to see this.  To think that the 2001 doubleofive logo is gone forever, replaced by a supposed "original vision" in 2009 that barely resembles the 2001 version.

Someday I'll release the 2001 version, but I promise you it will be SUPER-low quality.

I like how we converted you from "Klingon Battle? It'll never work!" to "Here's the shots you need to do it!"

:-D

Oh, no doubleofive. That's not what I'm saying. I KNOW it won't work. But gosh, I'm having a ball in trying to think of ways so it can. I guess the only thing in my point of view that doesn't ring right is the complete lack of dialogue concerning the klingons. But that's pretty much it.

I'm sure that if it doesn't work, FF will drop it.  And I'll have to design a new DVD cover.  And cry myself to sleep.

Would you feel better about the information coming over the speakers if it was your voice?  I'm sure that could be arranged. ;-P

Just a quick informal question.

What is the reason that ady uses the same starfield backdrop in the space shots?

is it a honor tribute to some original starfield from GOUT? Or its a matte located somewhere that is a reference?

Its easier than making a new one for each shot?  I don't know, I never noticed.  UNTIL NOW.  Thanks Angel :-P
