Why would they even do something like that in the first place?
Something about Kersh building a new cockpit that wasn't as cramped as Lucas wanted (I think it was in Rinzler's ESB), so he must have decided to make it look smaller in 2004.

Rubber.

I expected a story about a self-aware tire that goes on a rampage.

I did not expect a story about a self-aware tire that goes on a rampage where the tire makes the most sense of anything in the movie.

7 binoculars out of 10.
We only got about half hour into that before we turned it off. Shortly after the tire watched the woman take a shower.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

So LFL actually "revisited" the movies and fixed some little errors for this 2011 version... Interesting.

Nice to know the mockup of the Wampa arm was a mockup, its pretty bad. The lightsabers posted seem to have better coloring than the one from the new trailer, which I'm going to also blame on the mockup.

I cannot wait for it to come out in the UK, giving them 4 days to review it for us before it comes out here. I just had a huge rant in front of my wife about how we won't be buying this set, but my morbid curiosity of what they bothered to change or what they didn't especially in light of the Revisited changes may get the better of me. I know there are still things Revisited will have that the officials won't, but I'm still interested.

Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes
Time

It took me FOREVER, but I believe I have caught the comparisons up to the latest revelations. I removed the matte box "fixes" that were just the crushed blacks of the DVD, even the ones from the official changes. I also found a couple other things (nothing major, heck I don't even remember what).

I think everything is in the right order with the right captions. Let me know if something is off.

I'm doing some more comps from a while ago, and MAN, when I load up the 97 SE its SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!

Out of curiosity, which version of the 97SE are you using for reference that's beautiful? Laserdisc, Reivax, Flunk, or G'Kar?
I'm not entirely sure. ESB is cropped really close though. I'm not sure I could compare the cockpit shots if they were 97 changes (which they aren't).

I forgot to mention it earlier 005, but all those reframed shots I listed including these ones already on your list:

are 2004 DVD changes, not 1997 changes.
REALLY?! So it wasn't part of the "let's tear the movie apart and put it back together over a couple years" project, it was part of the "who knows who was in charge of these changes, but we'll surprise people when they buy the DVD" project?

There needs to be a "Making of the 2004 Version" almost as much as there needs to be one of the 1997 SEs.

They fixed the Humdinger Glitch?

I'm surprised they would fixate on fixing something minor like this, but deciding not to correct all color timing issues, such as the blue hazes in the trailers.
Right, its like they listened to all we've been saying since Comicon and not understanding what we're saying. I don't see how the Humdinger could make it into that presentation and it be fixed for the final release. They've had 7 years to work on this, and they're making changes into the last month? Please.

well the top ones, they used the old matte painting with the old style building which also didn't match the buildings we saw in the previous shot. The bottom one, well they are the same buildings but sections flipped. This was because the light is coming from the right (although it is hard to tell in the 2004 shot because they completely blew out the high levels), when in the next shot the light is coming from the left. So the buildings were modified for continuity
See, I love this stuff! The attention to detail is amazing!

I'm interested in the SE buildings you changed/removed. You just didn't like them, or they were too much clutter?

Which ones?
Well, just curious about these:

Especially the bottom one. There are buildings in the same spots, but they're different ones!
