4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

So, possibilities:

A. Brand new scan of the ON, with all original optical effects recomposited. (the original plan for the SE; unlikely due to having to find every element again)
B. Scan of '97 SE, with '11 effects redone in 4k. (making a 4k version of the Blu-ray, perhaps for theatrical/3D viewing; likely due to the SE being "George's vision")
C. Scan of '97 SE, replacing the CG additions with original optical effects. (making a mostly-despecialized edition/original plan for the SE; possible because it's "good enough" for most purists)
D. Scan of '97 SE, to have a 4k version of the '97 SE. (neat for preservation of a lot of people's first theatrical experience of Star Wars; doubtful because '97 Jabba should not be seen by human eyes ever again)

What else do we have?

It's the 1997 SE version. You can tell by the lightsabers. Looks like they were using that version ready for the 3D releases. They would probably just have inserted the 2004/11 changes into the new 4k scan from the master they had.
Interesting, but their "restoration" video shows the same damage to the negative that they fixed already in 1997, right?

Man, if they make a 97/11 hybrid in 4k, that's just more stuff for us to find in the complete comparison. "They changed this in 04/11, but changed it back to the 97 version when they did the 15." *head explodes*

Perhaps not. I hope you're right.  But this also would have been before the Disney purchase was finalized if that staffers resume is accurate.  I have a hard time believing Lucasfilm would have been working on an OUT restoration at that time, while GL was technically still running the show.
Perhaps as a show of good faith to Disney, LFL started having it restored?

Sorry, 005, which is which?

I think it's: RMW/GOUT/Blu-ray.
Exactly. The colors are different, the flashes look like what the GOUT might look like if it wasn't overblown. Shot 2 is the most telling, the flash is green in the SE and doesn't go as high on Vader's shoulder. I don't know guys....

And I highly doubt they re-did the SE's in 4k from scratch. That's them going back to each original element and the original negative AGAIN, scanning them AGAIN, redoing all of the CG AGAIN.

That staffer's resume indicates that she worked on it starting in september of 2012.  If that's the case, then I bet this was just a new SE master for the 3d releases that were eventually cancelled.
Judging by the changes made to the Blu-ray, it's my opinion that we got the 2D versions of what would have been released in 3D. Besides, why would they need to do "Restoration, Mapping, and Dirt Picking" the already way too clean 1080p Blu-ray masters in 4k?

I heard that J. Michael Straczynski pitched the idea for a reboot of TOS to Paramount some years back, and I can't help but wonder how it would have turned out if they had gone through with making it*.

*Still probably better than everything I've read about Abramstrek.
Funny you should mention that:

Here's the pitch if you want to check it out.

Does anyone realize that George RR Martin will probably never finish a Song of Ice and Fire? That's why I never bothered to read the books or watch Game of Thrones, because why should I watch/read something that will never be finished? And I heard that the last two books weren't that great either.
Mr Martin has words for you. Just two of them.

Also, why wouldn't you watch the TV show when the producers were told what happens so they can work their way to the same end?

And lastly, why did I click to reveal your post in the first place?

Oh, no, they are just in the order in which the donations came. I will probably try to put them into alphabetic order. Anyone know how to do this easily? I have them as a simple .txt file.
Copy them into a spreadsheet program, sort A-Z. Should work. If you don't want to do it, just PM them to me.
