I honestly think they shot two endings, one where he lives, another where he dies. Hell, even if it looks like he dies, they could bring him back ala Tony if the demand is there.

There's an entire feature on the Extended Edition about the rush to get all these goblin masks made, getting them approved at the last second, then after two days of filming having most of the actors not wear them. IIRC, the masks were sent to Weta and scanned to be used to make the CG heads. I don't remember if it showed the mask makers' reaction to this decision.SilverWook said:

Yeah, if you formatted this to Blu-ray and made the spine logo the traditional font, I think this would be great! It might be fun to have a stylized "H" for Harmy instead of the Criterion "C" too.
It's not supposed to be Khan's son specifically, just a member of his crew's child. Chekov found his crib in the containers, then we see him wandering around the Genesis device before it goes off. Who lets a toddler into a transporter room? What does that add to the movie? It makes a triumphant moment actually very sad, so it was right to be cut.ATMachine said:
