I think many of us don't see those big CGI laden shlockfests. You won't find many here who went to see Trans4mers. You are again misinterpreting our issue with CGI. It's not that we hate it, or think that it should never be used, it's just that we are annoyed by its overabundance in mainstream films today.
I don't hate the Transformer movies because they used CGI to create robots that change into cars, I hate them because they insult my intelligence.

I think in a world without CGI, we'd still be complaining about practical effect shlockfests. We're blaming the hammer for the carpenter's shoddy work. And I mean the studios/directors are the carpenters, not the VFX artists who work their butts off to try to make whatever it is look good.

A while back, my works manager told me that his young son was now getting into Star Wars as he had seen the films on the television. He was thinking about buying him a box set. I was just like...."Yeah, good". I think my manager was stunned that I never carried on the conversation. I mean, what was I supposed to say?  Directing him to any sort of box set is pointing to the SE versions. I can't support that.
Explain that they can't see you in the movie if they buy a box set!

Will it come with orginal on top like we all saw in the clips ? Or can that be turned off in the final version ?
That's just so people can quickly see the changes to the preview videos. As far as I know, there will not be a full version of the movie with the original (which original?) on top.

Ugh. The changes are so ingrained now, the nature of the original version is like a vague urban legend now, with people just assuming it couldn't be THAT different.

My 11-year-old son recently went on an overnight trip on a charter bus with the Boy Scouts. They watched the Special Edition trilogy on the bus's video screens. My son starts telling people "These are the wrong versions. Jabba's not supposed to be in Episode 4." Nobody knew what he was talking about, not even the adult (supposedly a huge fan) that brought the movies.

On the other hand, I have raised my son well :)
YOU'RE PLAYING THE WRONG MESSAGE!

So, you don't think people who bust their ass to make a practical creature work on the set, (and without harming the actors) only to find out it's all been replaced by CGI when they sit down to see the movie, might have a legitimate axe to grind?
There's an entire feature on the Extended Edition about the rush to get all these goblin masks made, getting them approved at the last second, then after two days of filming having most of the actors not wear them. IIRC, the masks were sent to Weta and scanned to be used to make the CG heads. I don't remember if it showed the mask makers' reaction to this decision.

I still don't follow the complete replacement of Azog. They were done filming, then decided a couple months before the movie comes out to erase him completely. OK...

For my money, by far the most intriguing deleted subplot in that movie involves the lost scenes where it's revealed that Khan has an infant son of his own, whom he quite willingly blows up along with the Genesis Device in his last attempt at revenge on Kirk.
It's not supposed to be Khan's son specifically, just a member of his crew's child. Chekov found his crib in the containers, then we see him wandering around the Genesis device before it goes off. Who lets a toddler into a transporter room? What does that add to the movie? It makes a triumphant moment actually very sad, so it was right to be cut.

Well, the honorable mention section is mostly the names of those who donated towards the new computer.

I kept a list and simply copied it to the credits, which is why some names are there as well as in the main credits (do you think I should keep it that way?)

Also, if you want your name put in differently, I'd be happy to do that as well :-)
I would prefer the honorable mentions section to be alphabetized, its kind of random looking now. If you put your list into a spreadsheet program then A-Z it, should clean it up a bit. I was going back and forth on people being credited twice, but I think that if people donated money they should be credited twice! Good on them!

You have to hear Mike's side. I believe he feels that Trek 09 is the best movie, as in general audience movie. He and I just did a commentary on Wrath of Khan this weekend (coming soon), so he's familiar with it. I enjoy the hell out of 09 (see our conversation on "The Whole Pre-Re-Quel Thing"). It's fun and it's getting people interested in the franchise. Let's not pretend that the TNG movies were good. Heck, while First Contact might be the best of them, it's not a very good movie (see my first podcast on Trek.fm "White Makeup and Motherboards, Go!").

Also, in the interview Max mentioned doing a "Piece of the Action" movie. We covered that on "Sprint To Everything".

I think I pulled a muscle from cringing when Mike said Trek 09 was the best Star Trek movie of all time.
Thanks for listening! Yeah, he does that. I try not to say things like that, knowing I might kill a listener from shock. ;-)

Well it looks like Bring back reading Rainbow is going to get five million bucks.  That's good news.

With Seth MacFarlane adding another million on top of it, that's incredible. I hope MacFarlane is giving outside the Kickstarter, they could use the money to cover the $250,000 Kickstarter is going to charge.
