I now have a plasma, and some questions about it and DVD upscaling

A few n00b technical questions. When I watch HDTV, isn't it still 60 fields through pulldown like it was in the CRT days, except at 1080i? I assume most TV shows are still shot at 24 FPS (the 25 FPS conversion fiascos which frequently plague Blus aside in Europe) and the converted into what bascially like 30 FPS? If I run 720p, is it running the fields combined and just showing each one twice? Why would 24p Blu-rays be of better quality then? Is the 30 fields vs. 24 FPS a difference my eye could perceive, ala the infamous "soap opera effect?" I know I'm not seeing smooth motion interpolations, as I'm sure I'd be able to tell, but is the difference perceptible to the human eye?
I believe that HDTV's actually display things at the proper frame rate, no conversion done. The 60 is just the max it can do. If it does run them at a faster frame rate, its a setting on the TV called "Motion Smoothing" and having that on around here, if I remember my Simpsons other people quote properly, "That's a paddlin'".

All Things Star Trek
Time

TrekMovie always had an overview. But yes, the phasers weren't redone because they never had clean plates to work from since they didn't have the original negatives, just the original final edit on film.

CBS' original plan was only to replace the space shots. Every other change took begging & justification on Dave Rossi & the Okuda's part.

We need to have him back, but 60 episodes ago we talked to Rossi on our TOS podcast about Remastered and how they did it: http://www.trek.fm/standard-orbit/6

Anyone care to inform this non-Trekkie what's so bad about it (aside from the ship being the wrong model, as mentioned by timdiggerm)?

The big picture of Spock is his costume from the TV show, not the film.

The only planet they visit in the film is Earth, not that Archipelago-mess behind the Enterprise.

Also that's just some bad looking CG.
The barcode and spine logo are from the wrong Generation.

At long last! Steve's final head pop ought to have nice loud sound to go with it.
I'm sure Old Man Frink won't get it, but I'd love it to be the Grunt Birthday Party sound effect from Halo 3.

(It's an effect you can turn on so when you get a headshot on the little guys their heads explode into confetti while children cheer.)

Will there be 4 separate threads created soon to follow the progress on the other movies?  Or will there be 1 giant "Revisited Project" thread to track whatever is currently going on in the Adywan productions universe?
I don't think we've discussed it yet, but I would want to keep them separate, mostly so the people who don't care about his prequel edits can follow the RotJR news.

But that's up to Ady.

Look forward to this sort of thing a lot in the future. This is the reason why Ady is going to be working on the rest of the movies all at once, so that when he hits a wall on how to do something or is waiting on another thing to dry he can poke in another one of the movies.

AR:SE:HD?

This acronym just gets ruder and more Scottish with each new iteration  :-D

What about AR:SE:PAL for a proper Scottish transfer?

It seems to me that once an HD version is completed the NTSC vs. PAL thing is no longer an issue.  Besides, who wants to go through all the trouble to make something like this just to crank it up so it plays too fast and all the music is off key just so a Pal version can exist?
Bingo makes jokes.

Filming an AT-AT?

Is the Echo Base hanger done then?

It seems quite a bit has happened recently behind the scenes.

Is the shield generator explosion done now?

I am not asking to see any of this but good progress is well....a good thing.

Do what?

No.

Yep.

I believe so.

Thanks.

Wow, OK...  I didn't think the proportions would be accurate enough or the surface detail, er, detailed enough to use on screen.  Is it really that good?  I had the old one, back in the day, even re-painted it, but how much work would it take to jazz this one up?  Are there after-market kits?  Photo-etch, that sort of thing?
From what I can tell, with a different radar, some paint, and some more detail pieces, it's pretty amazingly close. Definitely cheaper than a scratch build or any of the out-of-print model sets.

They do make after-market kits for pieces, but that's why we have access to a 3D printer! ;-)

[Disturbingly obsessive and also TFN-friendly diagram]

While I like that Splinter of the Mind's Eye and the original Marvel comics are placed in their own separate timelines apart from the main EU, I do find it irksome that there's only one EU timeline and no timelines for the different versions of the OT.

Maybe it would be fine to draw a thread from the PT to the SE-T, but it's completely offensive not to have the OOT set off with no connection to the PT, since there is no continuity between the PT and the OOT.

Also is "Clone Wars Multimedia Project" a reference to the Cartoon Network shorts?
I like how it takes into account 7, 8, & 9, but stubbornly refuses to just make the entire thing a straight line with only the Disney canon.

At least it doesn't pretend the Jedi Prince books should be canon.

When Adywan talks about the "Hasbro Millennium falcon playset," what, exactly, is this?  I googled it and all I could see is the newer, bigger, version for the 3" figures...  Terribly cool, but surely this can't be what he's talking about.  Is there a link someone could provide?  Just curious to see what he's referencing, thanks.
Sounds like you found it. It actually doesn't fit the 3" figures. It doesn't do anything, its just a giant almost-perfectly scale plastic model. With some bits and bobs people have been making it 100% accurate.

http://cdn3.nerdapproved.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/f22.jpg

Ady says it's a couple inches shy of being 1/48 scale, but he can account for that without an issue. This means he can use the 1/48 scale models he's building and put them right next to it and they'll be perfect.
